I wish all the companions could have had little cutscenes about the shenanigans they got into with the ball. Vivienne being in her element, Cole maybe helping people out, Cassandra being completely unhappy. Maybe have Solas act a bit more like Fen'Harel and get into some mischief. Most people would chalk it up to the drinking, until the very end.

I really hope that they do something like this with a Citadel-style DLC! I love to see companions in funny situations like that. Could bring Hawke and their LI, etc. etc. I mean I guess it'd be a lot of work for the animators to bring back everyone since there are huge leaps in tech between DAO but DAI, but I'd pay an embarrassingly large amount of money for something like that.

Dunno if anyone saw this or if I'm late to the train, but here's some funness involving the temple of the Urn of Sacred Ashes and Mythal:

Let me clarify that the sad end is the ending to the current part of the story.  It is sad.  The author is continuing the story in a 2nd part that is set in present day.  I don't want to say any more than that because I run the risk of ruining what makes this story enjoyable.  If super sadness is a trigger you're trying to avoid I advise not reading the final chapter of part 1 until they have stuff up for the 2nd part.  I haven't been on there in a few days so they might have started the 2nd part already.  Chapter 16 is very sad, chapter 17 is where it starts again, just for reference.

edit:  I just checked, they indeed have added chapters that is for the 2nd part.  Well I know what I'm gonna go do!

You don't have to clarify I got that when they said it's not the ending of the whole story.  ;)

I can handle sad endings I just don't like them.  :)

Ok I am officially declaring myself addicted to Solas I seriously have no life lol I just looked at my total hours played for dragon age inquisition

May I ask what your guys reason was to play as an elf?

Most people seem to like human PCs better, so what made you roll a Lavellan?

My Warden was a City elf because I found their situation in the world interesting and the origin was good (Shianni & Soris <3).

During the game itself, the race kinda grew on me, because of the lore, the dalish legends and the fact that they were just so much more interesting than the usual ("boring") humans. Missed the option in DAII even more than I thought I would, and therefore rolled a Lavellan in Inquisition.

I don't know why darwes don't appeal to me, and I have a qunari PT on stand by, because I do my second Lavellan right now  :P

Edit: Hope that all makes sense. It's pretty late here!

I pretty much always pick an elf if given the chance, and DA elves are my favourite because they are so oppressed, I really feel for them and am desperate for them to regain themselves.  I also don't really like playing human noble characters... and I think that is  partly because of the class systems, aristocracy and royalty that still exist in our world which I personally find to be obscene.

So unlike many here, I came first to the Solas thread because of all the companions, he was the only potential option for my female Lavellan, I would never let a Lavellan romance a human ... although Fenris was never safe from all my Hawkes :P.

I'm so glad that Solas is such an incredible character and so important to the plot, but I neeeeeeeeeeeeeeeed DLC  :crying:

I don't every play dwarven characters and have no desire to play a Qunari either, don't know why, they just don't appeal.

I clarified (again) because this thread moves so fast I have no idea what you've seen.  I (sometimes irritatingly so) like to be thorough.

I also was being clear on the sadness because sometimes it triggers things for people.  I don't want to push someone towards something that's gonna make them affected.  (And yes I know sadness is a tiny thing compared to other things that are triggers for folks) And others just straight up don't want to read fanfic that has that in it.  No biggie to me.  I just wanted to avoid a situation where I pushed and it wasn't something you wanted to read.

Yeah, that fanfic does have some very dark moments. Just look at the tags. But the Solas and Lavellan characterization and the whole plot so far is just sooo good. It makes everything that happened in the game make even more sense.

Lavellan also constantly asked 'who is this' whenever they find the images of the gods in the temple.  There's Dalish responses in the talks with Morrigan but still...

I just rolled that Tristan Lavellan has bad eyesight.

"Who is this? I haven't got my specs on."

In response to the elf question. I have always picked elves first. Probably because the first game series I was really big on and grew up with is The Legend of Zelda. So my first two Wardens (and faves) are Surana and Mahariel. Then my first run of DAI was my female Lavellan. I did a male human noble run, then tried a female human mage but didn't like it so went and created my current Inquisitor who is a male elf. I like my ears pointy.

Oh

Right

Before I forget. Can someone who is early in the game with a Lavellan and has this fresh in mind, help poke my memory about what is said about Clan Lavellan's dealing with humans? I was under the impression that they often traded with them (and it's what I based a lot of my headcannon for my male Lavellan around) but when you look at Andruil's mosaic in the Temple of Mythal and pick the elf answer, my Lavellan was all 'My clan stayed away from human settlements and kept to ourselves." So did they just trade with randoms they met on the road? Or did I just totally make the whole human interaction thing up?

Also, running through the Temple of Mythal without Solas and Dorian on your team is a crime. They both bring so much more to that run. Cassandra I could do without. ILY Cass but STFU.

WHAT.

WHAT.

DA.

FU.

I.

*sigh*

Okay.

So it always struck me as a little weird that the Disciples of Andraste were able to build that Temple. They were warriors and nuns and rebels and refugees, not architects. And the architecture is quite impressive. I think Genetivi even comments on it.

Someone here earlier was speaking quite eloquently about the differences in architectures, how Tevinter is always pointy and what-not.  With my own inexpert eye, the Temple looked similar to the Tevinter bastions of Weisshaupt and Ostagar. Maybe that's because of limited visual budget.  Bring your expertise to bear on the Temple of Sacred Ashes, I beg you!

Maybe they took over an ancient elven temple? Or built on top of one, and Corypheus's magical shenanigans ripped off the flooring? Skyhold is an elven site and it's built in the Frostbacks.

It isn't explicitly stated what Clan Lavellan is like, other than that they took an unusual enough interest to send you to the Conclave. In dialogue with Josephine at Haven, you can decide what your clan is like/how they would react to the Herald of Andraste nonsense. You also get a bit of dialogue RP with Minaeve, though that's mostly in regards to mages.

Lavellan: ...

I believe Clan Lavellan try to keep to themselves, they don't seek out human villages to raid and they keep an open mind when it comes to humans.  That's what I took from the Haven chat with Josie and the Keeper's first letter to the Inqusition.

Edit: Hope that all makes sense. It's pretty late here!

I originally planned on playing a qunari first in DA:I just because they're shiny and new and I wanted to have a completely unique DA:I experience, but then I was like... ELVES, because I've always loved the elves and their lore. My first Inquisitor was an elf mage. I intended to romance Cullen with her, and even got nearly 70 hours into the game with her, when someone spoiled for me exactly who Solas was. It blindsided me and I was super pissed off, but then I was like, "Screw this. I want to romance him now. That's way more interesting than Cullen. NO OFFENSE, CULLEN." Then Solas was Solas and now I'm having a hard trying not to create a billion elves to romance him over and over again. I wound up making a Trevelyan to romance Cullen with so I wouldn't be tempted by Solas. lmfao

Also, the dwarves got a nice chunk of new lore to go over in DA:I and I'm kinda super interested in them now. Not that I wasn't interested in them before, but with the elves, you could find ruins and see parts of their past practically everywhere you looked. Now we get some of that same kinda deal with the dwarven ruins in the Hissing Wastes. Getting to see and explore that kind of stuff is what really gets me interested in something, so yeah. I think I'm gonna play a dwarf soon (even though I've heard they get comparatively less unique interactions than other races? idk).

But anyway, to summarize: I chose an elf because I've always loved the elves and their lore. lol

In the context of playing an elf and romancing Solas --> I feel like such an undeserving Solavellan fan, since I accomplished it on my second pt  :bandit: Dalish origin was actually my second favourite, after the Circle mage (I like them both, I played Surana first but ended with Amell as my canon along with Dalish elf entangled with Morri) but I got very attached to the idea of my circle mage Trevelyan and her place within templar-mage conflict and the inquisition itself with its ties to the chantry. I thought that elves (and other races) would get shafted a bit in content department, boy was I wrong. I love how this part expands on elven lore and now it's hard for me to imagine not playing Lavellan all the time.

As for Solas he was pretty much my favourite companion even in non-romance pt. I romanced Cullen, who I love to bits as well and he's totally spoiled with content and yet, here is Solas, content impoverished hobo elf yet his story feels so meaningful and beautiful and generally -full... The final twist made him even better choice story-wise but I could gladly imagine my Quizzy leaving Skyhold and go fade walking with a no-name bald elven guy, cause she loves him.

Have a Solas. I just love his facial expressions and especially the one of regret/sadness he ends with. Why can't I hug him?? :crying:

Yeah, hmm, it seemed like the murals were his tribute to her and her work (and his part of it, with all the wolves incorporated), and the last was a message for her, or maybe he just needed to express himself in a way that felt safe (artistically). Or maybe he felt like there ought to be a record of it, for truth's sake. I'm not sure. But he at the very least would have known that she would have seen the mural, and would have not known right away what it was about. He intended for her to see it, even unfinished.

I'm really annoyed there is no dialogue to talk to him about the murals >< Even more annoyed to realize that after there the end there is no acknowledgement that he finished the last panel and stuff.

Thanks guys :D I must have either dreamt it (wouldn't be the first time) or maybe I picked an option when talking about my Dalish life with Jose or Cass that mentioned something. I went down a very 'Sod the Dalish' route. He doesn't actually feel that way. He is supposed to be to the Dalish what Dorian is Tevinter.

"I love you guys but stop thinking your history is glorious and build a more cooperative future."

I wanted to go the opposite route to my Female Lavellan.

His Keeper ended up on the City Council of Wycome so that's a huge win for this headcannon I'm rolling with.

It was an isolated clan, but they believed in having good relations with humans.  So basically they kept to themselves, but were civil with humans they encountered.  (Provided they weren't trying to prey on the clan.)  It's also possible they occasionally sent clan members to human settlements to trade, which is mentioned to be a thing some clans do.

I do have to ask though, is it just me that's a little tired of the Fen'haral stuff? It's just that, throughout the game he's just Solas, passionate, restrained but compassionate. I kinda just like him, as you see him in-game, and I don't really care about the reveal so much. Sometimes I feel that all the love has been subsumed (Eddie Izzard always comes to mind with that word) into the idea of his God-ness-ism and away from the character as you know him. I hope that if Bioware do take his character forward in the future, he's still himself, even if there is an aspect of big bad, and he's not turned into some all powerful wolf god. I like the hobo apostate, he suits hobo chic.
