I was so angry on Solas' behalf that they called him my manservant. Could they have not found a better coverstory?

The poor guy, he is so much better than a butler!

Haha, that irked me too. I was all set to dance with him and let the entire court gloat, stare and envy in retribution for their snark, buuut I realized he was totally comfortable with his position plus he talked me out of it anyway. Sigh. Wish there was an option to do that and court approval be damned.

Ha, seriously.

At least he invites you to dance after it's all over and you don't have to stress about impressing anyone or saving the world from destruction, so at least there's that. Plus, being asked by him instead of being the one to ask? Yes please.

I like to headcanon that there were still plenty of people hanging around, and that Solas and Lavellan waltzed through the whole of Halamshiral while the nobles stuck up their noses at the elf that just beat them at their Game and her manservant-lover. Lavellan would even take off her shoes, because screw decorum once you've already won.

Well, without the Fen'harel identity, why would Solas be sad? Why would he leave Lavellan in the end? To me, Solas and Fen'harel are the same person and both aspects of him are well-integrated in the game so it's kind of hard to think of Solas as just the hobo apostate that we knew in the beginning.

Working on a bit of a story idea I had while reading the thread, and I wanted something melancholy but not quite as melancholy as "Hallelujah" to listen to while writing. This is what I dug up.

Yeah, I mentioned the same thing many many threads ago. My headcanon is that he was initally happy to see Lavellan again, but then has to face the reality of what he has to do.

I got the impression he got more serious because things weren't being fixed as easily as he hoped. Like how he says that the rift at the end of tutorial area is the "key" and closing it should hopefully close the Breach and then gets the sadkitty expression when he realizes that isn't going to happen.

I think this one has been brought up before, and someone whose name I forgot explained it alone these lines:

While he realizes he messed up with the Breach, he thinks it can be fixed. He cheers up once you show you can seal the rifts.

He figures he'll be your Fade mentor, you'll seal the Breach, and he'll find his Orb and do whatever he was going to do, now that it's unlocked.

Only, after the assault on Haven, he realizes Corypheus didn't die like he presumably planned. That this crazy Tevinter ******* has some kind of reincarnation gig.

And that Solas did immeasurably more damage than he thought. Now that he's in it for the long haul, he has to obscure more of his identity, as well.

Maybe - hear me out here - Lyrium is blood. Titan blood. It needs to flow, like blood, and it needs to take you with it if you are to be a part of it, but now that the dwarves are separated from the Titans and the Lyrium be it magically or physically, their individuality is too strong - they can't bond back to that hive mind. And, in a way, it's sad. It's a loss. They're like ants without a Queen.

<snip>
Why Lyrium = Blood? Because blood is central to the Dragon Age universe. Blood creates blood lines, lines of power, be it political or magical. Mages run in blood lines. Elves have an old blood, blood that is not blood. Qunari are said to have been a result of experimentations with dragon blood, a story that connects them and their fear of being overcome with animalistic rage. Blood, the spilling of it or use of it in sacrifice, can give one power. If the amount of blood spilled is sufficient, that power can be overwhelming.

So here's my thought Templars have power to reinforce reality because they drink... Titan-Lyrium blood. It's blood magic, but the Dwarven equivalent.

I have 20 more pages of this thread to read before catching up, and I'm also out of likes.

So re-quoting to say that lyrium as Titan blood is brilliant! <3 Okay, diving back into the past again. Theories and Solas art/music/stories are awesome, as always. You folks make Wednesday nights better!

Yeah, I noticed that too.

Since he was the one to give Corypheus the Orb that caused the Breach in the first place, I think he was cheerful at first because things were going well. You move to Skyhold only after Corypheus revealed he has a Blighted dragon on his side, lays waste to Haven, and has killed and seriously injured countless people. It's hard to remain cheerful with that kind of guilt.

May I ask what your guys reason was to play as an elf?
Most people seem to like human PCs better, so what made you roll a Lavellan?

My Warden was a City elf because I found their situation in the world interesting and the origin was good (Shianni & Soris <3).
During the game itself, the race kinda grew on me, because of the lore, the dalish legends and the fact that they were just so much more interesting than the usual ("boring") humans. Missed the option in DAII even more than I thought I would, and therefore rolled a Lavellan in Inquisition.
I don't know why darwes don't appeal to me, and I have a qunari PT on stand by, because I do my second Lavellan right now  :P

Edit: Hope that all makes sense. It's pretty late here!

I play elf and mage in every game I can :D, just preference.
I love played as a mage and usually elves are talented at magic.
For the Horde!

Heh, I had a bunk bed growing up, even though I was an only child. So, I'd drape blankets along all the sides and had a veritable blanket fortress. It was awesome. :D

Somewhat on topic, my boss gave me a Christmas gift of assorted sample liquor bottles. I've been trying a different one every few days. I am down to the vodkas, which is not normally my adult beverage of choice. But the name of this one screamed "Solas" and I just had to try it. LOL

Exactly what was going through my mind! By that point it didn't matter to me what impression I made because the whole court was in my pocket, so I can show off however much I want. If only the main quest hadn't been so frustrating my first playthrough - this was the huge bonus that I replayed the Solas dance like a thousand times.

Still catching up to the thread but I'd like to answer this. ^_^

My Warden was a City elf because I found their situation in the world interesting and the origin was good (Shianni & Soris <3).

Edit: Hope that all makes sense. It's pretty late here!

For me, in a fantasy setting, I find it rather boring to play as a human. For some people, they play a human because it's easier to relate to them, but I was always more interested in playing elves as they generally have more interesting backgrounds. And I'd like to have a disconnect from the fact that I am a human in real life. In almost all fantasy RPGs/MMORPGs I've played (Elder Scrolls, Dragon Age, Kingdoms of Amalur, Tera Online) I would always play an elf (or non-humans like the Sylvari in Guild Wars 2 if there are no elves).

For DA:O, I rolled a Dalish elf warrior for my canon since I've always had a thing for the more "woodsy" type elves, plus I love their vallaslin. I was so disappointed when I found out that in DA2 you could only play as a human. I had to make Hawke a mage to make her a bit more interesting for me to play.

You could imagine how elated I was to find out that DA:I allowed people to choose a race again. I thought I would be playing a dwarf rogue (since my Warden was an elf warrior and my Hawke was a human mage) but the urge to play an elf again was too strong, so I rolled an archer Lavellan. I had no regrets leaving behind the thought of playing a dwarf (no offence to those who like playing dwarves, I just love playing elves more).

*sigh* I really wish I could say I chose to play an elf to romance Solas but unfortunately, that wasn't the case when I first played DA:I. xD

Well...yeah.  I think the issue is that some people have is that some other people seem to be taking the 'god' aspect and going BANANAS with it.  Like Solas/Fen'Harel are the same person - like Blackwall/Ranier - we get it. But what ends up happening is that he - Solas -  gets boiled down - by the fandom -  to to just Fen'Harel and then the characterization ends up getting gummed up by it.  "Oh, he's a god. Let's imbue with every ridiculous superpower known to man and place him at every major point in history".  Forgetting that lessens the impact of the characters that were actually there, the impact of the actual event because now you've got a Godhand in play, and making him look like a bit of a fool because he's that powerful but keeps ****** up.  Or that he's got all this swagger but none of the actual positive qualities that made people actually come to this forum in the first place. They're kind of shoving aside the man he is now - Solas - for Fen'Harel. His 'godhood' is so ancillary - it could have been Solas/oops I gave the orb to Corypheus because I'm a dumdum mage or Solas/immortal non-god elf.  The fact that he's Fen'Harel does not make him tragic.

The true tragedy of Solas lies in this:  Does he tell Lavellan the truth and all the baggage that comes with it? Or does he just forget and move on?  He realizes in those 2 seconds after that kiss that no matter what he does HE can't walk away from who was despite the man he has become.  That's why it's a kick in the gut.  He's punishing himself and he has no reason to.

Also, running through the Temple of Mythal without Solas and Dorian on your team is a crime. They both bring so much more to that run. Cassandra I could do without. ILY Cass but STFU.

[Disgusted Noise] Cassandra and her insensitive disregard of a Lavellan's faith. Asking if there's room in their religion for one more god, see the Maker. Sure Cass, the Dalish would totally disregard all the ills brought upon them by the Maker! They'll totally see to a seat for him on the pantheon against all their efforts to maintain separation from the Chantry! Solidarity, individuality, etc.!

Ahem, excuse me. I've gotten rather good at understanding the value of various and independent religions at some point.

I assume the conversation was on Solas.
