May I ask what your guys reason was to play as an elf?

Most people seem to like human PCs better, so what made you roll a Lavellan?

Elves, always elves in every game since original AD&D in the late 70's.  I directly blame Mr. Tolkien and Mr. Bakshi for making me fall in love with Legolas.

FASCINATING. Tell me why Dirthamen?

Hm? Well the landmark was found right under that statue, and it's the exact same statue that we see in Flemeth's Fade area (minus the blood) and at Watcher's Reach.

I'm right there with you.

Meta-wise, I'd heard that messing up at the Orlesian Ball could make the Inquisitor actually "fail" to save the world in the game proper, so I was stressed about messing up. In-universe, Lavellan was all too aware that losing "the Game" could cause Corypheus' assassination to succeed and the "bad future" she was working so hard to prevent to come true.

All this, plus the fact that she was an "elven savage" still barely understanding human niceties (apart from basic politeness) that was now thrust into a cutthroat political environment that humans who've spent their whole lives playing still manage to fail and get killed by every day, and she felt certain that any moment she would mess up and everything would fall apart. (Think Elsa trying to hide her ice powers during her Coronation day and ball, only the consequence for failing is the sky tearing open and a dragon scorching everyone)

Then, of course, Solas is enjoying the whole thing way more than he should. -.-

I imagine she felt physically and mentally exhausted when it was over, but also so relieved and uplifted (like a boulder removed) that my Inquisitor could float away. Then Solas, her beloved, comes to see how she is doing and offers to dance in that wonderful, straightforward, polite but sensual way that only he can offer. What better way to enjoy that new floating feeling than to dance on a cloud with her beloved? It also felt like a reward befitting a Herculean Impossible Task. :D

Yes, I had that exact feeling - I was so disappointed when I accidentally got the Celene rules alone ending and so anxious that I messed up the halla statues and all that; it really put the right amount of stress to feel that accomplishment through and through on so many levels (not to mention a random Helm of the Inquisitor drop that I lost because of the replays). I was trying to avoid the force everyone to work together because of the approval ratings at first, then I was scared off by not getting rewarded which turned out to be unnecessary (and I thought my girl would probably be inclined to use the threat/boon of seductive manipulatoin for Celene and Briala, that they get together and because they can't resist that I have massive strings tied to them), and I was definitely wary of the consequences (I didn't like the sound of my "allies" trying to squirm their way out from under my thumb, potentially plunging Orlais into further rebellion or my actions regarding Briala causing a massive persecution of elves), but in the end I decided that hey, wouldn't it be great if they all had to answer to me? Blackmailing them sounds just perfect, and they've all annoyed me enough for me not to feel even a twinge of guilt, consequences and all. Who says I have to decide between them when all of them equally just don't get the big picture painted across the sky itself??

Haha, I thought the same thing that Solas was enjoying himself way too much; I was a little taken aback at first, then annoyed that he could at least soothe me or something after all this hassle I was going through, but in the end he totally made up for it.

I equipped my Lavellan with the grace of a queen in social conduct just to shove it in their face (and I totally beat them at their own Game), but inside I think she felt something like what a leaf must feel when a tornado drops by for a cup of tea. We were both very, very frazzled by the end there. Next playthrough (a duplicate Lavellan, sigh - I tried resisting, I really did try!) I'm going to savor each of these moments over days and weeks. First time I kept rushing ahead because I was getting more and more anxious/apprehensive to find out what's the deal with Solas and why isn't he more open with my Lavellan, and then I found out. Something died in me when I realized he's not turning up in Lavellan's chambers/dreams at the very end so my only solace is to replay the entire game and go very, very, very slowly this time. Within reason, of course.

May I ask what your guys reason was to play as an elf?

Most people seem to like human PCs better, so what made you roll a Lavellan?

My Warden was a City elf because I found their situation in the world interesting and the origin was good (Shianni & Soris <3).

During the game itself, the race kinda grew on me, because of the lore, the dalish legends and the fact that they were just so much more interesting than the usual ("boring") humans. Missed the option in DAII even more than I thought I would, and therefore rolled a Lavellan in Inquisition.

I don't know why darwes don't appeal to me, and I have a qunari PT on stand by, because I do my second Lavellan right now  :P

Edit: Hope that all makes sense. It's pretty late here!

Short answer for DAI: Solas.

If not for him, I would not have rolled one. In fact, when it was announced that we'd have multiple race options again, I figured I'd be rolling Dwarf or Qunari just so it would stand out from my DAO and DA2 canon.

My One True Warden ended up being Dalish, but not for any particularly elfy reason. After playing all of the origins, I felt the Dalish one made for the best journey. Starting out with her childhood friend, carrying the guilt of his demise through most of the game as questions of "what if I had searched more", or "What if I had stopped him." almost certainly gnawed at her, and then coming face to face with him as a ghoul during the camp raid much later in the game.

To any other Warden that midnight attack was just an annoyance, a sign that they needed to hurry and save Ferelden. To Dalish Warden, it was a stark reminder of the one she failed to save. More than that, it was a glimpse of the fate promised to her by the Calling, seen in the ghastly visage of a dear friend. Deep, ya'll.

And then there was Hawke. Human only.

DAI rolls around and I was fully expecting to change it up, until I saw the romance I wanted to try first was gated to human and elf. So I opted human for first game because Cullen, and I was uncertain of romance scenes with height differences. Then Solas happened. Now I am fated to elf. At least for one more playthrough or two...

Or three...

Yes, I'm sorry I missed the codex entry for the Landmark at the bottom of the first image.

Ah, no problem.  :)

Random thought: I never in my Dragon Age-loving life would have ever expected that Fen'Harel, the Dread Wolf, would turn out to be some woobie, charming, bald elf Fade nerd who would break your heart (if you romanced him that is). I'm just thinking back to when I first played DA:O and DA2 and the image I had of Fen'Harel was so different (evil trickster wolf god deity thing). It's just funny how things turned out looking back.

Hahahaha, same here. I find myself thinking about that a lot. I don't think they could have more thoroughly overturned people's assumptions about Fen'harel. I love it.

And I think that was partly the point of Solas's character. To show you just how wrong your assumptions (and the assumptions of the Dalish) were. If they'd gone with cocky-looking concept art Solas, then I don't think the big reveal would have had nearly as much impact. It turns out Fen'harel is a grumpy, lonely nerd who's weighed down by a millenia's worth of guilt. Now that's good character writing.

Which is also why I get so sad when people write him as growly and domineering and wolflike anyways. It's like they missed all of the character development he got in DA:I.

So I think I figured out who the mysterious hooded figure gushing blood in Flemeth's Fade area is.

Just finished Citadelle de Corbeau this playthrough, and I ran across this:

Spoiler

More about Citadelle de Corbeau.

Spoiler

Looks like all of those hooded statues, both here, in the Fade, and at Watcher's Reach, represent Dirthamen.

FASCINATING. Tell me why Dirthamen?

EDIT: I missed the Codex entry at the bottom there. Whoops. Snap. Oh jeez. Let me think. I wonder why he is the one bleeding in Mythal's part of the Fade though? Does that mean he is the betrayer? Or the lover?

I'm wondering if impaling a statue of Dirthamen is something Mythal did intentionally? If wherever there is statue of Dirthamen, he is "watching".... Mythal may have deliberately speared it in order to conceal them in that part of the fade.... ? Just a thought.

Also for later Meta purposes: does Solas disapprove if you let Celene die? I'm anxious for a Gaspard rule but won't do it if he's all angsty about it.

Also I realized today I'm basically half fluent in all the known Elvish. Lol. I didn't have to look up meanings today on things that Solas said.

No. I don't believe so.  If you pick the "weepy" option - if someone dies - he says something along the lines of 'they knew the costs when they played the game'.

Wait... isn't it impailed with a spear? Doesn't.. Andruil have a spear?

Looked more like a sword (or massive dagger) to me. Some of the zoomed in shots someone did a few days ago clearly show a pommel and circular crossguard.

Well the myths cast Mythal as Falon'din and Dirthamen's mother, and the iconography in the Mythal mosaic suggests that she was a mother goddess, so for now I'd say that Dirthamen probably wasn't her lover. We've seen nothing that suggests that the Elven gods were anything like the greek gods in terms of being okay with shtupping their relatives.

Betrayer is a definite maybe. Perhaps Dirthamen and Falon'din worked together to try to eliminate the rest of the pantheon for their own benefit. It seems like Falon'din was rather unstable, according to Solas in the temple of Mythal.

I'm not a big theorycrafter, so take this with a grain of salt, but I think that the elven "gods" may have been a group of allies that perhaps discovered some source of great power. Something like the well of sorrows perhaps, an artifact which elevated those who drank from it to "godhood". In order to try to usher in an era of peace and prosperity, they decided to elevate themselves and become the godlike rulers of Arlathan. Perhaps it worked for a time, but absolute power corrupts absolutely, and one by one they started to descend into madness and megalomania. So Solas a.k.a Fen'harel, one of the original recipients of the power, was forced to trick his old friends and lock them away, prompted by the murder of Mythal, who was perhaps the only god save Fen'harel who had held onto her sense of justice.

It makes sense when you look at Solas's response to the Inquisitor drinking from the well, as well as his reaction to the Inquisitor saying that they'll rely on their friends. It also explains how someone like Ghilan'nain could become a "god" after the fact. The ancient elven pantheon were both powerful mages and something greater, but they didn't start out that way.

I usually play humans. My first Warden in DA:O was a human mage. She did goodie two shoes things and stayed with Alistair, who left with her to be in the Gray Wardens (Yep, I had to choose between Hawke and Alistair on my first playthrough for the YOU KNOW WHAT quest in DA:I)

After I played through the game, I really wanted to try out another character. I tried several, but ended up choosing an elven mage as my Canon. She romanced Zev and they rode off into the sunset together and kept Loghain alive because he's a radical dude.

I never really thought I felt an affinity towards elves. In my head, I always think of them as annoying. "Oh, I'm not a grown up until I'm 100 years old!" "OH I'm so magical and special and I like NATURE!" Blah blah bleh. Maybe I always considered them to be the Twi'leks of Fantasy; pretty to look at but borrrringggg. But then as these DA games kept progressing, I found myself hanging out with the elves more. I can't stay away from our Broody McBrooderson, Fenris, Merrill is SO ADORABLE, and on the whole, a lot of the elven characters in the DA universe are so dynamic and interesting. The Zathrian reveal in DA:O is one of my favorite moments.

When I heard that one of the characters was race gated in DA:I, I was like "Aw, crap, I guess I gotta play an elf to ensure I have the most options for sexytimes," (even though I thought Solas looked strange and I had no intention of romancing him). I had no intention of playing an elf in this game until I heard that. I think also in my brain, I have a strong dislike for authority and oppression IRL, so of course when I found an entire culture of people who have been murdered and systematically oppressed, a part of me flicks on and is like "OH YEAH SHEMS? TRY PUTTING THIS KNIFE EAR IN AN ALIENAGE!"

As of now, I think the elven PC in this game is the best choice of any. I have played humans and dwarves, which also have their own flavor, but something about being an elf in this game feels more important, and I felt this way even before the stinger at the end of the game.

Reminds me of the Shard-Bearers in Sanderson's Cosmere. They all picked up parts of a greater power. Some were nice, benevolent gods. Some fell into bad habits. Like genocide.

And later generations of magic-users regard them as gods, but themselves wield the same power. Just diluted. Like Arlathan's magic being so much more intricate than the slap-dash fireballs and enchantments seen in present day Thedas.

The statue of Dirthamen in Flemeth's Fade scene is very intriguing. There we go back to blood again. I'm desperate to get more information on Old Gods and Elven God connections. If we finally get solid evidence either way, that will make a lot of theories much more solid.

I'm a huge Cosmere fan, so yeah, the similarities are striking.   Perhaps that's why I like this potential theory so much. Inquisition itself strikes me as very Sanderson-esque, what with its trying to shake up the assumptions that we've formed about the world.

My random train of thought on this information:

The idea of it being Dirthamen is a very interesting one. Not one of the gods that was generally on the radar, but his connection to Falon'Din isn't one to be overlooked. They are known as being 'twin' souls. I think its safe to say that if one of them was involved in Mythal's betrayal, then they both were. He also got a temple devoted to him in DA:I, so the developers were at least drawing some attention to him.

I wonder what the scene in the fade represents... is it Mythal's desire for vengeance? A desire to stab Dirthamen in the back for his crimes against her? That would definitely seem to imply that Dirthamen had the 'brunt' of Mythal's rage. Otherwise, we'd see a statue of Falon'Din or some other pantheon member.

It could be a trophy. Perhaps she [or Fen'Harel] was able to defeat Dirthamen, and he's long done with. This would give Falon'Din considerable cause to be enraged with her.

It could be apart of her betrayal. What if Dirthamen turned against Falon'Din, and was murdered for it?

Special bonus tinfoil hat thought: he's the god of secrets. Does he have the power to reverse or restore the secrets of the void that Mythal purged from Andruil's mind?

So I've been playing my second play through romancing Solas, and I think this is probably a glitch (if it is, it's an oddly fitting one) but ever since second kiss conversation, wolves no longer attack me unless they were aggravated by something else first, where as they used to just go aggressive the second I got close. Has this happened to anyone else?

If I can get a picture I will.  ^_^
