See, I had that problem with Kaidan. I was so determined not to romance him my second ME playthrough, but didn't want to be a complete d*bag and apparently that's enough for him to fall for you anyway. So I let him die on Virmire.

I was ninjamanced twice by Leliana...even though I tried to be carefully nice the second time :/

That was actually my method for getting through Mass Effect unromanced. You had to be a jerk to Liara and then leave Kaiden (or Ashely) to die. I've told others that this is the surefire way to get through Mass Effect without an LI.   And I did a lot of no-LI runs of Mass Effect.

Hmm...I've been thinking (dangerous, I know). Didn't the devs (maybe it was DG in particular) say that the romances were "all over the place" this time and that they didn't particularly care about being equal and evenly distributed with the race-gating stuff, and that they were more concerned about making sure all genders/orientations had equal opportunities for LIs? If the last two romances revealed do turn out to be the bi, race-gated options, then that doesn't really seem 'all over the place' at all, it kind of seems like a logical pattern: 2 straight, 2 gay, 4 bi with 2 of those race-gated.

 

I dunno, pointless (desperate hope-filled) reaching speculation most likely, but maybe this does make it a little more likely that the race-gated LIs could still be distributed at least in part between the straight or gay LIs, and not necessarily limited to the bi LI, which still gives Solas a better chance of being a LI.

 

Either that, or Solas could be race-gated against dwarves because of the whole dreaming thing.

He said the race gates were all over the map for various reasons, or something like that, and that they just made sure not to slant things towards real world groups. When he said that, they wouldn't have known IB wasn't gated yet. People from the con are saying that he was still expected to be gated when they put his profile up and Gaider talked about race gating before that. So, at the time, he should have been expecting 3 gated characters.

 

I have no idea what to make of all this at this point. I stopped trying. lol
