I legit teared up when this scene happened in game.

I so hope that if bioware does something like this for solas, it's written in the way that makes your heart break in a good way.

*snip*

the feels.

Ah, Dark Souls and it's ridiculously giant bosses. Amazing games, but damn, I spent a lot of time rolling around the legs of those giants, sobbing.

Reminds me of when Cory picks you up in Haven. I lol'd. Was he that big in DA2? Was the Architect that big? Why is he freaking tall!?

I guess it's this time of night again, so I'm going to go ahead and board the train to theoryville with you.

What if old god souls function similar to parasitic organisms? Like, they can't survive without a host and that's why every time they appear in game they're inside something (like inside dragons- corrupting them into archdemons, or inside people- flemmeth/possibly Sera/Solas/Sandal) Now this is just going off of the "what if sera/sandal have god souls inside them".  Like what if when Fen'Harel locked the gods away, it wasn't so much in a place, but in people

If the gods existed as people (maybe like how Solas is IF he and Fen'harel are the same thing) then their own body could have functioned as the host, but what if their souls after death / whatever happened to them required living vessels in order to remain viable and not decay?

Die hard Stargate fan here. Referring to Gods as parasitic and my head is going straight to imagining them as the Goa'uld.

Huh, now I think about it, maybe that isn't the worst comparison in the world. The Goa'uld posed as Gods using advance technology (maaagic) and the ability to keep on surviving via new hosts. Every follower bore their God's symbol on their face...

...

.....

UCnuA4s.gif

I wonder if there are any SG1 fans in that writers Pit.

Now I'm going to wander off into my own thoughts of DAI characters as Stargate characters. Oswin's gone to a happy place.

Sera >_> Solas is now second place.

I was planning to romance IB with my Adaar, but after hearing about how Sera is going to react to her there is a chance I may be swayed.

Nobody expects... THE CATQUISITION!  :D

Those are awesome. I don't even like cats but I would gladly own Dorian and Cole kitties

You know, I'm not entirely sure why I dislike Blackwall and yet with Solas I'm perfectly fine. They both lie about who they are, what they've done, what they are doing...and yet I dislike Blackwall and I'm only extremely frustrated with Solas. Blackwall was always meh to me, and romancing him is "I don't deserve you" this and "you deserve better" that. And Solas does say your relationship with him could lead to trouble, and it would be kinder to not start it. I just...I don't know.

I dislike Blackwall, and I can pinpoint the exact moment I went from 'He seems pretty awesome' and onto

jHMVR.gif

One of the times you talk to him down in that barn he goes on a rant about how Warden's shouldn't be studying their enemies because that doesn't matter, all that matters is killing them which is what being a Warden is for. Ugh.

No, Blackwall. Just, no.

I played every HoF as the kind of person that would stop and ask questions. Sure, more often than not they would kill them after, but I was never not willing to exhaust all dialogue first. Understanding your enemy is vital imo.

Gah.

All of his opinions on what a Warden should be irritated me, then when I discovered who he really was I really hated his opinions on Wardens. I am 100% sure if he met my two beloved elven HoF's from my two canon world states (I can't pick between the two!) then he'd probably just cry.

Sure they're heroic and powerful fighters, but sit down and get to know them and you'll find none of this 'honour and sacrifice' and instead just a pair of

@lizasaurus: You can write AND draw? With those powers combined, you can make a comic porn.

Wait, you haven't seen this masterpiece?

Yeah well... you know how I feel about time travel? EFFF time travel. You know why? It negates... EVERYTHING. As a player who did DA:O, DA2, and DA:I it'd be like laughing at the hours of time, character development, personal growth, and interpersonal relationships we crafted and throwing it in the trash because, "Fade+Physical World is BAMF, yo. Gotta fix my bad choices that resulted in all the fun you had. Your emotional investment to this world is dumb" would.. infuriate me. Infuriate being the biggest understatement conceivable.

It is noted during In Hushed Whispers, that time travel was possible only in time period after The Breach, though, not before it happened.

You know... this is odd. I did mostly everything in a way that garnered Solas' approval, and even when talking about the Dalish I was kind of hesitant - I still got minor disapproval from him, but nothing noteworthy. Interesting thing, though: I supported the Wardens. That's the only massive disapproval I got from Solas (that disappointed huff said it all) but I never argued about it with him. He just never brought it up. Now, am I totally missing something, or did I actually manage to get so much approval that he didn't care to comment? I.e. are there more Solas scenes I have yet to explore? #.#

GAH so sorry I'm only replying now, was backreading (and I've finally caught up, WOOHOO! happy very belated 2k pages Solas thread!).

To answer your question, no you aren't missing any Solas content. I just took the breakup's aftermath as an argument of sorts, because my Lavellan picked the bewildered option where she sort of spat, "and we're done?". So, really, that's all there is to it. I'm sorry if I raised your hopes futilely in any way.

Like most of us, here, I've been trying to wrap my head around the events surrounding Solas in the game and beyond.  And something's finally occurred to me, that the easy assumption Solas' intentions are focused on freeing the elven pantheon is just too simplistic a rationale.

Why would he do that, anyway?  Why would be risk loosing a whole pantheon of what amounts to deities who're all going to be ticked as heck with him and whoever it is he's befriended over the eons?  Why would he run around for months and months next to someone, encouraging and assisting them to seal rifts and close a huge breach in the sky, if he really was so intent on bringing it apart?

There's a bit of codex I came across in the Temple, that says -- and I'm paraphrasing, here -- that "those who've visited the Beyond have said they've come across Fen'Harel, still walking through dreams to preserve the prisons he helped create".

No, I think whatever Solas is planning, it isn't so much about freeing the elven gods.  Thing is, I still can't wrap my head around what his ultimate plan really is.  Whatever it is, the fact remains whatever vestige of power was in his orb, it's now tied intrinsically to the Inquisitor and that creates an incredible bond that links them indefinitely.  It could also be a beacon for whatever power or force that Solas is fighting to save "the people" from, making for an incredible risk to someone he's grown to care for.

So much possibility ...

I've been pondering this ever since my first playthrough ended too. What is Solas planning? From the posts I've read, most people seem to be thinking that he's moving to free the other Elven gods, or maybe tear down the Veil. But like you, I don't think that's the case. Because it just doesn't add up.

With regards to the Elven gods, even thousands of years later, he doesn't have a lot of nice things to say about them. Especially Falon'din. The only ones he seems to like is Mythal (and that didn't stop him from doing whatever he did post-credits, which may not be a bad thing but then why did he apologize beforehand?), and he acts kind of sad in Dirthamen's temple (I remember him saying something after we killed the High Priest, something about how low Dirthamen's sunk in this pretty sad tone, but I can't remember the exact words).

Anyway, aside from dislike, just imagine what would happen if he sets the trapped Elven gods free. They'll probably kill him for imprisoning them in the first place. And while he may not care about that much, since he says to Flemeth himself that he deserves to be punished, what about after that? The gods will probably take over again, enslaving the elves through religious fervor just as they did before. Considering Solas values free will above all else, I really don't see why he'll go for this option, even if it means elves regaining their magic and all that. And that regaining thing is an IF. The Elven gods must be pretty weak now, maybe even weaker than Solas is, if they can't break out of the prison he made for them.

As to tearing the Veil apart, yes as you've pointed out, he does everything he can throughout the game to keep it maintained. He does have an exasperated moment where he says, paraphrased, "Unless I can bring the Fade here and craft everything to my will, then no you can't expect me to change everything" to an Inquisitor he dislikes who asks him why he isn't helping elves. But there it is, it's just a moment of exasperation, and probably a call back to how things were before the Veil. But that was before, and to have the Veil torn now would equate to demons pouring out of the rifts, because that's what modern people expect to see, and so that's what colors the Fade. The Breach is a mini-version of a destroyed Veil, and look how well that turned out. So unless he launches a continent-wide series of lessons on "Sprits can be your friends" before destroying the Veil, then no, I don't see how he thinks this option can help everybody.

What, then, is he planning to do?

It's obviously still got something to do with the past, and something being restored. It's not like he knows much about anything else aside from the ancient elven empire after all.

So I'm going to go out on a limb here and say, maybe, what he's trying to do is recover whatever artifact or magic or whatever it was the Pantheon had so that they could become gods. As others have already pointed out, it's weird that there are even gods in the first place in an empire where everyone has magic and so has the potential to be gods as well. So why only these few elves at the top? Because they had something the other elves did not, and it's whatever that is that Solas is seeking.

But what is it? I can't be sure, but I think it's got something to do with one of those ancient writings we find in Mythal's temple, the one that talks about someone taking a winged form (most likely a dragon) reserved for the gods without permission and getting punished for it. Maybe it's the dragon form itself that gives the Elven gods power, or whatever it is that enables the dragon form, and if that's the case maybe the Forgotten Ones/Old Gods took it for themselves and hid with it in the Void. And now Solas has to venture into the Void to recover it.

Idw, still pretty wobbly, but that's how I'm seeing it right now.

OH, and as for Abelas calling him Elvhen. It never struck me as Abelas acknowledging Solas as an ancient elf, much less Fen'Harel. It seemed more of like a jab really. Solas says "There are other places friend, other duties. Your people yet linger."

Then Abelas says, "Elvhen such as you?" which I thought was said in a pretty deriding tone like, "Yeah right, with "elves" such as you? Elves who aren't elves as we were at all?", so he doesn't see Solas as one of their own.

Edit: Apparently, this is my 69th post to the BSN. Please excuse me as I snicker like a 12 yr old.

It's my biggest problem with The Prince of Persia movie - I'm totally down with it like a guilty pleasure until the last five minutes. The narrative would have been better had he only been able to go back an hour in time, the consequences of his Uncle still there, at least one sibling alive he can convince, and the Princess retaining her character development. Instead, nope, we retcon everything except the Prince's memories. He knows what happened. He fell in love with her once. They can do it again! But that's stupid. Events make you who you are. Seeing as she hasn't experienced what she has, all of the humility she learned as a result of their journey together is gone. OK. End of Prince of Persia movie rant. Back to DA:I.

I... don't know where I was going. And I don't know what the writer's plans are. BUT IT HAD BETTER NOT BE TIME TRAVEL. 50% of the reason I choose Templars every time with my Lavellan is because in my World State I want Solas to have NO. IDEA. IT. EXISTS. The rest is Fiona made her grave, she deserves to lie in it.

I think my Lavellan would pull that same head tilt of, "You can't be serious" she does at the beginning of the game when Solas says "It seems you hold the key to our salvation." She'd then sink down to sit on the nearest object - doesn't matter if it's a corpse or a struggling nug - and tell him to tell her EVERYTHING and not stop. Afterwords, for a good three minutes she'd open and close her mouth with the beginnings of sentences that refuse to form. Her hands would stop mid gesture before flying to an expression of thought.

Then she'd jolt up, pace around, list all of the times she almost put her finger on what was wrong, and tell him what a terribly bad liar he was. Then she'd ask him why he didn't tell her, if he thought she was too married to being Dalish and ignorant to handle it. Shouldn't her willingness to learn, to question, to remove the vallaslin have told him she was more devoted to the truth than blind tradition? Did he think he needed to do this alone because she was weak and incapable? Was he blind to her personal strength and ability she demonstrated the whole time they were together? Thennn... she'd need a good five minutes alone after that, then she'd be calm enough to listen to what he has to say again, be understanding, and give him the occassional witty jab before telling him he's dumb, and an idiot, but he's her idiot and she missed him.

Oh? So you saw it as that happy? I saw it as her kissing the tiny scar on his forehead in a moment of emotional understanding and devotion, milliseconds before he pulls away, and tries to pretend he didn't say vhenan - didn't mean vhenan - that he didn't wish for her touch again. *cries*

EDIT: But we ALL know she's gonna follow him straight through to the bitter finale.

Well, I am on my phone so can't enlarge pics, but I prefer how I saw it haha, her kissing him tenderly in acceptance if who he is... You..you should draw that too...

This is exactly how I'd like my Lavellan to react, she is incredibly wise.. She wouldn't even wail dramatically later, she would just accept, he'd be rather humbled by it I think.

That's the kicker - like I think she would be a bit hurt and dumbfounded that he thinks she wouldn't understand after EVERYTHING she's gone through.  After she finds out about Blackwall, after Varric lied to them about Corypheus, after the why that is Cole.  Everything that they've learned and seen - him being an ancient elf is kind of the topping on a big crazy cake.  My Lavellan would be more hurt that he didn't respect/trust her enough to say something.  I think the biggest thing for her would be that he kind of makes this unilateral decision about them and gives her no say.  She wouldn't wail and be furious - that's not her style - but she would be hurt.

Welcome to the support thread. Where we talk about Solas, share pictures of Solas, write theories vaguely relating to Solas or game, and 80% of the fanfiction we share is smut.

I'm out of likes, but yup. This is the reason I've got so attached to my canon Lavellan I think, she came alive in my head and became someone I want/try to be. There is a lot of me in her. There would be hurt and disappointment for sure, no dramaz, no shouting, none of that because I think, deep down, she understands.

PART TWO!!!

text:

Ellana: I AM NOT AFRAID OF WOLVES!
Solas: Ahaha.. so you are a child of rebellion against your parents  I assume... You seem brave and unique indeed. May I ask your name my lady?
Ellana: I am Ellana.. I ran away from home because my parents said (she is a mage) that I was too weak to handle the fade at my age but I know I can do it.
Solas: Maybe you can handle it but it is STILL dangerous place for someone your age. Your parents are right to be worried.
Ellana: But I wanted to prove that I am not afraid! ( as you can see she is still a child and does not understand the dangers of the fade and since she is mage she found at an early age that fade was nice place to play in though she never knew almost anything about it. )

This isn't true, though. Lavellan does speak elven and so do the Dalish regularly, as evidenced in The Stolen Throne where they say that they only speak the common tongue to outsiders and that "most" understand the common tongue (meaning some don't speak it at all!).

I agree, though, that I don't see any wink wink interactions between Solas and Abelas. What I like about their interaction is Solas trying to recruit him. TME spoilers:

Spoiler

This was pretty much my take on the Abelas scene, he's dismissing both Lavellan and Solas while Solas is hinting as hard as he can in the circumstances that more is going on than Abelas realises.

I think the dalish are more fluent in elvhen than the game shows us but originally they would have had to learn the language from texts, I would expect them to be familiar with working out the written form especially a future Keeper. I would have loved a dalish elf to take over translating from Morrigan when she was pretending to flub. Exploring ruins wont be any clans' first priority because surviving is more important but it's something most dalish would be comfortable with.

I know with four possible race combinations there's only so much BW can do but I wish the game didn't assume human as often as it does.

It would have been so great if we could have asked Solas about ancient elves waking up post Mythal's temple and with the right combination of questions and dialogue perks be able to ask if he's one. He'd squawk and backpeddle but it would make all the questions the dialogue wheel forced us to drop worthwhile just for that moment. The Inquisitor has been bidding their time, gathering evidence then BOOM gets very close to the truth about Solas.

I keep feeling like...Like something about their power source or the corruption of it is still affecting this world and driving it towards destruction. Is it the blight? Is it red lyrium? Is it the song itself? Does it have to do with the Old God Dragons and the inevitability of a full-scale blight that has no archedemon, driving the entirety of the Darkspawn horde above ground, wiping out all the races of Thedas in a bitter war? I don't know. But I am positive Eluvians are involved.

Eluvians, yes. Lyrium...

Does Solas ever mention anything about lyrium? He seems pretty ignorant about dwarves in general, going by his conversations with Varric. And that's really weird. You'd think a society built on magic would be choking on lyrium. Maybe... lyrium didn't exist before the veil was put in place? The elves relied purely on their mana and blood before that?

Argh I don't even know.

I'm really scared Bioware won't be able to live up to the reunion I have in mind at this point. But they've done a really good job with Solas so far, and I trust Weekes. So. Fingers crossed.

yaaaay I'm snowed in today so I can contribute!  I just got caught up so I'm not going to go back and quote everyone but here are STUFF and THINGS I have to say this morning:

1. On the topic of Uthenera again (sorry) I just realized this morning that the argument about it not being connected to the immortality of elves because only a few special elves were able to survive Uthenera is really tough for me to accept. My thinking is that history hasn't got it exactly right...why? Because ugh I completely forgot about Abelas and the rest of the elvhen in the Temple of Mythal!  So apparently an entire squad, possibly like, 100 elves if you count all the ones you fight on the way to the temple, regularly practice "sleeping" or entering Uthenera and waking up. And Abelas states that their number was even larger (he says that they lose some every time they awaken)! It does not appear that anyone is you know, coating these elvhen lips with honey and stuff...they all seem to have the ability to sleep, enter Uthenera, and awake when needed. Not only does this lead me to believe that "immortality" is more of a cycle of living, sleeping, regenerating, and waking...it also lends some credence to the theory that there are more elvhen than just the pantheon locked away...maybe Solas is trying to release the pantheon (or maybe not), but maybe there really are more of his "People" trapped in the Fade that he wants to free. I originally kind of ignored this idea, but I think I'm coming around to it now. It definitely makes some sense...we've been trying to figure out why Solas would want to release the pantheon in the first place, because it seems like a weird thing to do. Maybe he locked away a large part of the elvhen population, hoping to wake everyone up thousands of years later when he hoped things would be better.

2. A new name for the group other than wolf pack?  THE EGG CARTONS. (you know, because you put Solas IN US) WOOOOOO  I AM AN ADULT.
