On a related note I noticed last night my character yells "Solas is in danger" but he's always barely has any damage when she says it, which is sort of funny. A bit overprotective ;)

I noticed that the other day either it was Cassandra or Cole can't remember but one of them said  "Solas is in Danger."

I'm like "What? He barely has a scratch on him!"

When I first saw that screenshot I thought it was Sarek from Star Trek, thanks to those eyebrows. lol

When I first saw that pic I said "Oooh nice outfit..what's with the Spock eyebrows though?"  :D

I posted a thread a while back asking who this was. SamanthaJ posted a screenshot of what seems to be assets unearthed from the game files, and it says "npc_t_flemeth_nude_wet.ebx". It could very well be young Flemeth. What other times could Flemeth have possibly been nude and wet, right? don't answer that

I think I said this before...but I'll say it again...  even if we don;t get DLC for a while...fixing Solas' quest glitches sure would be nice.

I was also randomly pondering...  having a beautiful dress to wear to the ball would be nice...but how would we be able to climb up the walls into the library in it?  A dress like what Morigan is wearing looks like would have a metal skirt cage under it. That owl dress someone drew in this forum would work though.

Just random thoughts....

Playing ME2 for a while..just waiting for the Dragon Age books I ordered to arrive. Romancing Garrus...though Thane sure is hard to resist. Did Patrick Weekes write him too?

Yes, but he was actually for trying to keep him alive but was over-riden by the rest fo the team.  I thought it worked out ok.  Thane's death scene was really lovely. I cried for like 20 min. but it was a good cry.  My boyfriend made fun of me.  It made my decision to jump into the green light all the better.

Flemeth has never been to the well. Abelas still thinks mythal is dead and gone.

Flemeth as an avatar of Mythal. It's Mythal defending her well. I don't recall Abelas ever saying that she's dead, only that she was slain and that her temple and servants remain. He has to know she isn't completely gone, since he hears the well's voices. They confirm to Morrigan that Flemeth is Mythal, so it's clear that they know.

Mr Weekes sure is excellent at writing addicting characters. I cried as well. I love all the DLC stuff they added in ME3. The goodbye videos and his spirit showing up. Made me cry again. Better not happen to Solas!!

Not meaning to derail the thread but I don't think I've ever mentioned that I have been watching your 2 Girls 1 Lets Play for awhile now and it makes me happy.

Also I just got back from Claires (Shut up. I love that place) and they had lots of animal earrings. I searched high and low for some wolf ones but no dice. :/

On the other hand, I got some rainbow jaguar ones so...mission a success?

I'm super late to this theory party, but I wanted to add a comment about the Solas/Abelas interaction.

Solas is most likely the only unmarked elf in the party. Since he has no Vallaslin, Abelas probably already considered him to be the "leader" of the party even though he was hanging in the back. The Inquisitor might have been asking questions, but she is clearly a shemlen slave and Solas the noble in service to whichever god's Vallaslin she has.

When Solas says "Elvhen like me" Abelas gets his hint that Solas is not just some elf noble. My take on Vallaslin is that it's both identifier, and ye olde elf blood magic glyphs that allow the noble/patron god who owns the slave to manipulate the body directly (or cause pain). I imagine that there was some subtle magic play poking at Abelas' Vallaslin. If Vallaslin used to work like that, then Abelas doesn't just use his magic spider sense to come to the conclusion that Solas is more than an elf mage.

That with Blackwall had also really surprised me in the first playthrough, like Solas. Had not seen that coming. His evasive behaviour did strike me as odd, but then again I attributed it to both personality and that secretive Wardens/joining ritual/dying after 30 years/no one must ever know/we keep it secret even from recruits-attitude that had been such a big issue in Origins. Paired with his hints that he had been a criminal before joining (possibly not too educated as well) I did not expect him to be a fake Warden. I did not much like that I had never heard of Thom Rainier before... felt like a detective movie with the killer being someone completely unknown, who shows up for the first time when being arrested. But apart from that I felt it was well done. And that's the thing about good stories anyway; first time around you get the surprise, second time around you get all excited because you notice all the hints dropped throughout the story.

Or... I am simply horribly naïve.

It's actually possible to find several codex entries on Rainer lying around before you have Blackwall's personal quest.  There's also a very big clue about his lies when you get to Skyhold - Blackwall mentions how he spent the Blight in Ferelden (which caught my attention as DAO players know only 3 Wardens were in the country at that point) and in upper floors of the library (near Leliana's birds) you can find Blackwall's speech he made during the Blight which confirms he was never in Ferelden.

Solas: I begged you not to drink from the Well! Why could you not have listened?!

Inquisitor: Solas...

Solas: You gave yourself into the service of an ancient elven god!

Inquisitor: W-what does that mean exactly?

Solas: You are Mythal's creature now. Everything you do - whether you know it or not - will be for her. You have given up a part of yourself.

Inquisitor: You don't even believe in the ancient elven gods!

Solas: I don't believe they were gods - no - but I believe they existed! Something existed to start the legends! If not gods- then mages, or spirits... or something we've never seen... and you are bound to one of them now.

Solas: I suppose it is better you have the power than Corypheus. Which leads to the next logical question: what will you do with the power of the Well once Corypheus is dead?

[...]

My Lavellan's conversation with Solas word-for-word. XD

I wonder, if a romanced Lavellan's (actually, any befriended Inquisitor's) decision to drink from the Well becomes an added motivation for him to do what he does in the Stinger? I know he drains Flemeth in the post-credits scene regardless of the Inquisitor's actions, and he already wants to help the People. But, if his friend/beloved became enslaved from the Well, I wonder if it just becomes added motivation to do what he feels he must do?

I mean, Morrigan. She flees after the Blight, seeks the Eluvian, and goes to Celene's court whether the Warden agrees to let her perform the ritual or not; whether she has a son or not. But, if she does have a son, he becomes just another reason for her to flee Flemeth. Their reunion happens regardless, but Kieran becomes another factor in their reunion.

You think it could be similar for any future encounter with Solas?

Hm, and there's no difference in the love scene depending on your choice? Apart from him asking what you'll do with the power, I got that question even though I didn't drink.

His conversations and quests are 'godly' bugged. It wouldn't surprise me if the game fails to trigger the actual dialogue in this instance as well.

*trembles* Oh, Solas. That is something I have to try. But as I said in one of my theory posts, in hindsight it would have been awkward to be the slave of one god while romancing another. Regardless of who or what they actually were, the point is that it really would have been mighty awkward. Except... if Flemeth passes on Mythal to Morrigan OR Solas actually devours that aspect of her... would that make Lavellan a slave to Morrigan's will or Fen'Harel's? That would be an interesting twist. Say, if Morrigan drank, and what we saw really was Flemeth passing on Mythal's essence, then is Mythal/Morrigan suddenly her own master, with all her lost knowledge/essence/power restored because the Well was combined with her?

If it becomes revealed that the Inquisitor becomes a slave to Fen'Harel, I might actually try a playthrough in which she drinks from the Well... On the condition that he doesn't mind-stop me from stopping him from doing something stupid he'll later regret. Like sacrificing himself for the other gods.

Let. them. roooot. *insert sad puppy Lavellan face*

This is why I love the genre, the medium and Bioware's team. And why I research what you just described extensively both academically and within my own art.

It's so ironic too because I spent the past year or so living in a friend's novel(s), discussing the symbolism extensively for pages upon pages. I would write down all my interpretations, character analysis, possible twists and implications. Sometimes my chapter feedback was longer than the chapter itself. I LOVED it to death. I got so obsessed with his fantasy world, I couldn't sleep sometimes. He'd drop hints all the time and it drove me almost insane *g* He kept telling me that nobody ever understood his novels the way I do. Our minds work much the same way, so I just get his message, I'm just a lot dumber than him, so I have to concentrate REAL hard *g*

That same friend is playing Mass effect (became his favorite game of all time instantly) now (a gift from me) and he's finding stuff I never noticed before. And I thought I was a HUGE fan. But he's got analytical skills and a memory for details like nobody else I know. I am almost shocked how much stuff is in Mass Effect, how much more symbolism and mystery. And in such a seemingly simple game. To be fair, he's been playing nonstop for over two months now. I haven't played the games in almost 3 years. I forget very easily too. I have no memory for details which is why I need to write down stuff immediately if I want to figure something out. Dragon Age makes my head spin. I was so overwhelmed when I played DAO that I ignored the codex completely and focused on the social stuff and the companions which was easy to understand...

I haven't played DAO and DA2 since release. I'll need to replay. But I have so little time after work. So I might just keep reading all those wonderful fan theories.

I'm starting to think you are all much smarter than me... So, when I imagine I were my Lavellan... I meet that guy, looks just like your ordinary monk from next door, tells me he's travelled the Fade and seen the most curious things, studied a lot, went many different places... never really had many friends, too, thus having a lot of time for doing all that... discussed with demons and spirits, just sucking up every bit of knowledge he could possibly come across. Never heard of such people before, but then again, I have also never met a movie star or a Roman legionnaire and still know they exist(ed). Now, that guy has seen that orb somewhere, it is Elven, old, somehow magical. Much more he does not know though. It must have been what opened the breach, because what else could have had such power? And so on and so on, Skyhold, blah.
So, honestly, my first thought would not be "Gosh, he must be an Old God!" I might rather think "Kind of nerdy... damn, I wish I had such knowledge. Certainly impressive at every party or game show". My boyfriend can tell me a lot of things each day that I did not know, simply because I never cared to learn about them while he did. But it has never occurred to me that he might be an Old.... wait.
Seriously, was I really the only one who had been surprised by the ending after the first playthrough? Did you all see that coming?

I tried my best to keep away from spoilers...but by the fade kiss scene I thought he must be a somniari, and then I suspected he was possessed by a pride demon. I also suspected from the very first chat in Haven that he might have been involved in the conclave explosion somehow. There's just something about the way he responds to the " you can trust me" flirt. And the whole bit about "pretenses". Then somewhere along the way I got accidentally spoiled that he leaves/breaks up with you...sorta glad I was prepared for that one. :P

Didn't see the ancient elf or dread wolf coming though. Which was awesome because in DAO and DA2, I thought Fen'Harel was the most badass elven god, and roleplayed my Hawke as being fascinated by Merrill's story about him. I still kinda can't believe they let us romance him. Lol.

Anyway I roleplayed my Lavellen as definitely suspecting something, and knew he had secrets, but hoped he would eventually tell her when he was ready, so she didn't push. I figure she didn't trust the humans/chantry folks at first either and believed Solas really did want to help...plus he seemed to be the only one who really knew anything about the mark, so whatever he did before, she didn't care at that point.

Oh and I think I expected him to be a lot more pacifist, based on how he was described pre-release. So when he went after the mages in a rage in his personal quest I was surprised by that too.

Yesssssssssss! From the "mouth" of the devs.

One kind of assumes that when somebody is "murdered" that means their life is ended, i.e. they are dead.  :D Granted they're talking about a "goddess" buuuut still, there's not a lot of room for doubt in what he says. It could be just that he believes the essence, the power of his goddess lingers on long after her death. The closest example I can come to is like Myrkul in Mask of the Betrayer - a "dead" god that's not quite dead in the "completely ceased to exist" way.

I think it could be part of his motivation.  Even if you're playing an Inquisitor whom Solas hates, he never approves of you drinking from the Well.  It must be so much worse for him if it happens to someone he respects or loves.

i don't have the link, but Patrick Weekes has said that it's not a bug.  He goofed and forgot to write the dialogue completely.  So unfortunately there is no dialogue to trigger.

(You're talking about when Solas says he begged in regards to the Well, right?  Thread moves fast, so I apologize if that's not the dialogue you're talking about)

Quick update: I checked over on the Wiki and apparently getting Michel to talk to Solas doesn't result in anything significant, damn it.

When I couldn't go elven, I opted from Ferelden décor much of the time.   The throne looked nice and comfortable with those furs and I liked the Mabari theme (I miss dog), although the ones that are meant to be howling look a whole lot more like wolves - hope Solas appreciated that one.   However, I did go with the Freemarches four poster bed.

Did anyone else cringe when Solas was introduced at the Winter Palace as our elven servant?    I mean it would be okay with another race as Inquisitor but with Lavellan it seemed all wrong.    Couldn't they have altered it to "companion" and let the nobles read into that what they wished - since at least with a female Lavellan it was probably true.    I was also rather disappointed the dance sequence was so short; I'd love it to have shown us on the actual dance floor, scandalising the nobility (since we no longer had to worry about getting thrown out) and indulging in something a bit risqué, like an Argentine Tango, since that would be so different from what they normally do.    Still I have a good imagination!

I headcanoned that someone else came up with the title as a cover (probably Vivienne), and Solas and Lavellan just kind of went along with it.  Since I also headcanon that they had crazy passionate sex after that dance, it makes the whole thing funny and ironic instead of cringe-worthy

I had the ultimate of cringes. I don't know what I was expecting him to be announced as, but I just felt super bad FOR Solas. Maybe arcane adviser would have been better. That being said, it's a totally acceptable title to be a manservant for elves. I felt both guilty and horrible for having him announced as "just" my banging-the-dread-wolf Lavellan's servant.

I'm actually having them discuss this in my Halamshiral fic.  Lavellan is offended by it, Solas is fine with it.
