The sun, curious about the land, bowed his head close to her body, and Elgar'nan was born in the place where they touched. As a gift to Elgar'nan, the land brought forth great birds and beasts of sky and forest, and all manner of wonderful green things.

Elgar'nan--also known as the All-Father, the Eldest of the Sun and He Who Overthrew His Father[9]--represents fatherhood and vengeance, and leads the pantheon with the goddess Mythal. He was the first of the elven gods, born of the sun and the earth. According to elven legend, the sun grew jealous of the favor shown by Elgar'nan for the things of the earth, and so burned them to ashes. In retaliation, Elgar'nan threw the sun down from the sky, and only later relented because of Mythal's intervention. He was convinced, with her help, to restore his father to the sky on the promise that the sun would set each night.[9] With the aid of Mythal and his parents, Elgar'nan remade the world. Most elves will invoke Elgar'nan's name when they need to destroy something.

Mythal, the Protector and the All-Mother, and goddess of love[10], is the patron of motherhood and justice and leads the pantheon with her male counterpart, Elgar'nan. In elven legend, when Elgar'nan threw the sun out of the sky in vengeance for burning the earth to ashes, Mythal calmed him and helped him see that he was wrong. Elgar'nan was convinced to free the sun. On the first night after the sun was released Mythal created the moon, from the glowing earth round its bed, to be placed in the sky as a pale reflection of the sun's true glory.[9] Elves will invoke Mythal's name when they require protection. According to an inscription in the Temple of Mythal, however, in addition to the halla, Ghilan'nain had created many other creatures -- giants, monsters, and beasts that spanned across the sky, water, and earth. These creatures Ghilan'nain killed after Andruil approached her with an offer for apotheosis -- all except a few, with the halla being one of them. She thus became known as the youngest elven god.

 

 

So the left part represents Elgar'nan, right part represents Mythal.

Or it can be 'read' from top left - sun came down to land, Elgar'nan was conceived (sun -> land)

Mythal raised from the earth's ocean of tears and unto the land (land -> water)

Mythal created a moon to reflect the sun's glory (water -> moon & moon -> sun)

 

Now if we refer to the background of the card we can see an ocean and mountains, so we're missing the sun & the moon.

 

Why is Solas in the middle of all of this? Why is he glowing?

Is he the moon? If so, who is the sun?

Why is Solas in the middle of all of this? Why is he glowing?

Well let's throw some stuff out.

He's got a halo that usually denotes holiness in iconography.

However, the hand positions in icons are often significant. Solas has one hand pointed upward holding magic and one is pointed down and crooked, almost broken looking. That could symbolize his dual nature as protector/deceiver.

He stands in the middle between worlds and gods- that's pretty clear.

 

What are the jagged things to either side of him?? To me they look like mountains. Does that denote the Veil? Maybe he anchors the Veil somehow?

It could be total coincidence, but the end of his staff looks like a halla head.

I don't like to make this comparison, but the Orthodox icons that this tarot reminds me of are those that depict the apocalypse. Mainly in the composition. Example here and here.

I don't think he's glowing; I think it's the moon behind him.

I've been thinking about the Slow Arrow story from The Masked Empire and does anyone else think that Felassan may have been telling Briala about the fall of Arlathan?

The god Fen'Harel was asked by a village to kill a great beast. He came to the beast at dawn, and saw its strength, and knew it would slay him if he fought it. So instead, he shot an arrow up into the sky. The villagers asked Fen'Harel how he would save them, and he said to them, 'When did I say that I would save you?' And he left, and the great beast came into the village that night and killed the warriors, and the women, and the elders. It came to the children and opened its great maw, but then the arrow that Fen'Harel had loosed fell from the sky into the great beast's mouth, and killed it. The children of the village wept for their parents and elders, but still they made an offering to Fen'Harel of thanks, for he had done what the villagers had asked. He had killed the beast, with his cunning, and a slow arrow that the beast never noticed.

 

We can see the 'great beast' as the Creators, the adults of the village as the elves and the children as the elves of the current era.  Solas' intention was to free elves from the rule of their 'gods' but in doing so he pretty much destoryed the elves.

We see the Sun = Elgar'nan

The Moon = Mythal

His mouth is covered (keeping secrets) = Dirthamen

Halla on the staff = Ghilan'nain

Fire = Sylaise

 

But idk about the rest...

I looked at the vallaslin to see if there's some clue, but what I came up with would be really far fetched

June's vallaslin has those dots under the eyes and Dirthamen's has those things that look like waves

I do remember Gaxkang's and Xebenkeck's fights were hard. But Imshael's was too easy for a demon supposedly more ancient than Tevinter. At least he had personality I guess.

I think he secretly supporting Fen'Harel while being bound to the service of another god (he has vallaslin, which implies he wasn't working for Solas plus there's Solas' lack of interest in Briala's network).  Which is good news (sort of.  You're still bound to Mythal's will, after all) for anyone who drank from the Well.  It seems it is possible to work against the god you're bound to!

 

(I don't support the 'Solas killed Felassan' theory at all)
