We are against pie Janesutin!
Ugh. No one's going to back me up with this "pie is the root of all evil" thing, are they? Sorry to get slightly of your topic, but I would have loved to have gone back to the Brecilian forest in Inquisition. All those environments that I had never even heard of before Inquisition and they had a perfectly good one already ready. It would of been lovely. There would have been sylvans, maybe hobos rhyming trees, and werewolves depending on your choices. Solas would be saying super suspicious things about what he thinks of it (The Fade!). Cole would be obscure and adorable and only we players would know what he's talking about. Maybe Leliana would even reference her time there. It would of been great! Missed opportunity BioWare, missed opportunity!

I said it looked good XD I don't eat pie though LOL

So um... now that it's relatively safe to post in here again, I thought to share a little tale of fate, Solas and another other world.

Recently I made a new alt in FFXIV, in preparation of that shiny new Gunner class we're getting soon. She just got the permission to hire retainers, and so with great alacrity, I sent her to hire a couple of Lunar lookalikes since she's a Lunar reference herself. But of course, Every. Single. Lunar reference was taken. Even Mystere!

So, I left it alone a bit. I started to worry she'd be doomed to hire boring retainers with random names, but on a whim I decided to try and recreate our beloved Dread Wolf. I thought it an effort in vain. Surely the name would be taken, and I'm wasting my time, I thought. Balmung is one of the most crowded servers. It HAD to be taken. Right?

Here is the result of that endeavor:

Spoiler

How did I do? I thought of using the mohawk ponytail that's available, but Elezen foreheads are a million miles high and letting all that noggin go unchecked by hair of some sort would just spook the chocobos. So I settled on the pulled back look, but I did do a little experimenting:

Spoiler

And here he is, first day on the job:
ffxiv_01112015_044201_zps6634ec1b.png

Typical.

I tried to make a Zevran retainer to go along with him, but the name was sadly taken. Can't win em all, I guess.
Spoiler

Woah. What is this? Explain it to me! :D Zevran looks especially awesome!

Cake is good! Sten likes cake too (honestly, his obsession with sweets is the reason I liked him so much).
Red hair is really pretty!
But yes, you have no soul.
*smiles innocently*

Ahhh Sten!  I still remember the first time I got the cookie dialogue.  At first I didn't believe what I heard.  Then I couldn't stop laughing.  Using cookies to get across to the Mage Tower was the best.

I am a red head, not a ginger!  Well what I mean is, my hair's not orange-red like the Weasleys.  Eh I guess that doesn't mean I don't lack a soul.  Does the no soul thing only apply to gingers or all red heads?  I don't think anyone's ever clarified that.

Yeah, it's awesome! I feel like we only got it so they could use it for trailers though X) It reminds if a party banter from a previous game about someone's weapon not being able to double as a walking stick (Alistair to Morrigan?)

This reminds me that I really love how a mage Inquisitor will actually hold their staff like a staff in some cutscenes.  They'll gesture with the staff while talking.

Speaking of tweaking characters: are we going to get a Black Emporium-esque thing eventually? I bore of my character's hair, or start getting annoyed with some tiny flaw in the face, but by the time that happens it's always 20 hours in or some nonsense and I refuse to restart then.

Ugh, tell me about it. I draw and sometimes participate life studies. When I tell someone where I'm going, they ask if the model is cute or if I feel anything if looking at a male model's member or a female's. I have to disappoint them that I'm too busy getting the proportions correct. You got 2 hours to draw the figure and their surroundings, ain't no time to stare intently. Off topic, you get paid pretty well as an art model. It's about 80$ per hour.

I love drawing human/elven etc. bodies

I find a human body very artistic with all the curves and such :D people always ask me why I draw them naked. They think that I am real perv. but I do it because I like the shape of the human bodies <.< They look amazing to me and I am sorry it has nothing to do with me drawing the pictures and then staring at them. I just love the anatomy. I looks cool. I think you got what I meant haha. I always tell them that '' Clothes are overrated.. human body is beautiful and we should embrace it ''

haha

OK guys , I have to go on abit of a rant here, forgive me , but I have to let it out.

What's up with Lavellan understanding elvhen language and being completely oblivious about it at the same time. It's so inconsistent and frustrating. It's ridiculous and mind boggling. I know that from gameplay perspective this happens so the player doesn't get spoiled, but what is the explanation from Lavellan's perspective? She/he got smacked over the head with the Stupid stick?
I know how understanding foreign languages work, English is not my native tongue. Even if you don't know the meaning of a certain word you can still place it within the context of the sentance. But oh noooo, Lavellan ignores the whole conversation the Fear demon and Solas had like they were casually chatting about sipping afternoon tea. If she/he can understand perfectly the conversation between Solas and the spirit of Wisdom ( along with perfect punctuation, I might add), there is no reason she couldn't atleast have clue on what they were talking about. Because , God forbid, we might actually confront Solas about him omiting information or straight up lying through his teeth. Same diference , if you ask me.

End of rant.

I'll just stop thinking about it and the problem will go away....like every problem with this game. *sigh*

But sometimes he speaks ancient elvhen that she does not know.. because you know.. he is a bit old. And that time he might have been talking ancient elvhen so she didn't understand what they said? Sometimes he talks the basic elvhen. Why else would Solas sometimes translate for her? XD ( just my guess)

For some reason I just love this part. I don't know whether it's Solas using his staff like a walking stick, or maybe Varric's little "c'mon, bud!" motion he gives to Solas. I just needed an endless loop of it.

ETA I just noticed how funny Cass looks walking up that hill, too. Haha, perfect.

BTW, not to sound like a clueless idiot or anything, but which trailer is this scene from? I've seen gifs and screenshots of this but I've never seen it in the trailers I've watched so far.

I feel so dumb...

There's a lot of variance about how much the Dalish actually understand of the Old Tongue.

However, with a few thousand years between Arlathan's Fall and the Fall of the Dales, there was bound to be a lot of loss, and what they have left is distorted.

Maybe there hasn't been that much language variance.

But the scene where Solas's Wisdom spirit dies has lines like what you'd associate with Falon'din and burial rites. Religious stuff that has a much higher chance of being remembered.

It's sort of like a Catholic that can recognize bits and pieces of Latin used and changed for church, but when her old-school boyfriend busts out full Classical Latin in a sass-battle with an ancient demonic monstrosity, she doesn't really understand more than the most basic grammar.

A lot of the other inconsistencies were things getting left out, like her not recognizing Mythal.

EDIT:

Capricorn, it's a GIF of the scene from the Prologue where the party climbs the mountain to make their way to the Breach. :)

I hope I'm not imagining things but I remember seeing it in one of the trailers.  Maybe I dreamed it.  I think it was the same one that Solas is speaking in for a bit of it.

edit:

this one?

The scene is a little different though.

Darker reds and Auburns have what we call a "half-soul" it started out as a normal soul but the red hair evilness consumed part of it to satiate it's own demonic thirsts. Carrot tops never have a soul to begin with. They make adorable children though, so that's all that matters.

I play XIV. Or did. My sub is counting down after a "last straw" incident with a tool in the Duty Roulette. I played from 1.0 beta. Legacy. The community is not what it was and seems to worsen every major patch for some reason that eludes me. However: I approve of your Solas and retainer!Zevran. :P Very good job!

Oh, I agree the community can be harsh and the duty finder can be a cesspool of jackassery at the best of times, but sadly I think that's the gaming/internet community in general these days. Once you find a decent set of folk to hang around with, however, it changes everything. Sort of like this thread. :)

Myself, I play with a small FC of family and friends, and I'd say our server is at least 80 percent nice guys. Probably because it is the rp server, and rpers typically aren't also elitist jerks. Maybe some day I'll grow a nerve and rp too.

But DF? <Disgusted Noise> I just keep my head down, pretend not to speak english and methodically do my job to get my dailies done when FC mates are scarce.

I think this scene is actually in the game?  I remember seeing it...  It's during the prologue where you either choose to charge ahead or take the side path.  I've done both, so I don't remember which one it would be exactly.

Which..which server?  I'm in a lovely FC which I've been in since beta so I'm happy there, even though I haven't played since DA:I..much to their..I can't say annoyance because they miss me. Many of us went to Fan Fest in October and I love them all...but I'm so *sigh*..blame Solas.

Yes it is in the game, when you take the mountain path.  But BioWare also used the same scene from a different angle in one of the trailers.
