<snip>

Here's to hoping one of you finds something revolutionary before DLC comes out to pull us out of this funk of circling speculation. In other news, I started playing Shadow of Mordor today (I got it for xmas) and it's fun, but man, so empty for me emotionally. I think I've forgotten how to enjoy playing a game that doesn't require deep emotional investment. THANKS BIOWARE. ;)

I can't play other games right now either, they just aren't fun if they aren't DA :))

Oh boy, you're fortunate to not be there. Unless you like reading drama. It was just argument mainly between 4-5 people. It was really sweet of the rest of the members to distract others with pie. edit: and solas pictures.

It is interesting trying to track down the drama by back reading. Like watching an argument in reverse.

I'm sure everything that can be said, has been said. Lots of good people in this thread! I wouldn't worry about an argument or two. You learn and move on. Hopefully a bit wiser for it.

[But seriously that Cthulhu pie is amazing. I need to remember that for halloween.]

Companion specific to Vivi. The color you can use on anyone but it's much more feminine on her.

I think.

Where in du lion is this? I've been looking everywhere!

Like Illyria said, I got it from a chest in Emprise du Lion. I was in Valeska's Watch (the dungeon with darkspawn), there is a chest named "Elvhen chest" or something, it spawned there. But it's random, I think every chest with T3 schematics works. It took forever though

Haha not particularly. Just in genreal as I browsed through last night. Just my thoughts on it, and not directed to anyone in particular.

I can tell you feel that it is though, so let me reassure you I am not being dismissive of your opinions at all. Simply adding my own. :)

okay just wanted to make sure you weren't calling me disingenuous because, man that is a hurtful word. I didn't think you were being dismissive, but probs should not use disingenuous to describe someone's opinions 'cause that word hurts.

just want to clarify that I didn't feel last night's discussion had to do with "nobody has anything left of value to say."  definitely don't want anyone to think that is what I was saying...I was just agreeing that I'm running out of topics to discuss. I think everyone here is contributing value to the conversation (and I mean everyone, from the smut enthusiasts to the deep theory-crafters) and I appreciate it, I just personally was getting burnt out on not having any answers to all of my questions and the theories roiling around in my brainmeats.

I have to say that if Solas is responsible for elven losing their inmortality (and all that it carried), even if his intentions were good, and still he's capable of talking about ontemporary elves the way he does, including not considering himself having much in common with them and things like that... Well, that would be cruel and wrong, I don't know... I'd expect him to be consumed by guilt and have a much more sympathetic attitude toward them if that was the case...

That's part of why I keep thinking he's not trying to restore elven greatness or anything like that, I have the impression that elves are not his main concern, and he doesn't seem to feel guilty specifically about their problems. If anything, I'd say the opposite, that judging by his attitude towards them contemporary elves might even be descendent from some elves that make some terrible, selfish mistake or something like that. More like "they got what they deserved" or something.

So um... now that it's relatively safe to post in here again, I thought to share a little tale of fate, Solas and another other world.

Recently I made a new alt in FFXIV, in preparation of that shiny new Gunner class we're getting soon. She just got the permission to hire retainers, and so with great alacrity, I sent her to hire a couple of Lunar lookalikes since she's a Lunar reference herself. But of course, Every. Single. Lunar reference was taken. Even Mystere!

So, I left it alone a bit. I started to worry she'd be doomed to hire boring retainers with random names, but on a whim I decided to try and recreate our beloved Dread Wolf. I thought it an effort in vain. Surely the name would be taken, and I'm wasting my time, I thought. Balmung is one of the most crowded servers. It HAD to be taken. Right?

Here is the result of that endeavor:

Spoiler

How did I do? I thought of using the mohawk ponytail that's available, but Elezen foreheads are a million miles high and letting all that noggin go unchecked by hair of some sort would just spook the chocobos. So I settled on the pulled back look, but I did do a little experimenting:

Spoiler

And here he is, first day on the job:
ffxiv_01112015_044201_zps6634ec1b.png

Typical.

I tried to make a Zevran retainer to go along with him, but the name was sadly taken. Can't win em all, I guess.
Spoiler

These are amazing....and now I want to try out FF XIV. LOL

Oh gosh guys. Please don't fight, we all love the same thing here.
HE WHO WALKS THE FADE
So let's forget the whole argument!
Here I'll start a better argument.
I hate pie. Hate it, it's gross (this is fact. It cannot be argued). Yet I'm upset with Solas and Mr. Weekes for not liking tea (hypocrite). I'm mean if there's so many flavors, you haven't tried all of them. How can you say you hate all tea? (How can I say you ate all pie? Well that's different... It is)

All tea totally tastes the same!  Like steamed dead leaves and sticks in hot water.  =w=   *shudders*

That said, I'm totally with you on the pie thing.  The insides, sure, but does anyone actually like crust?  Gross.

I actually agree with this. I wanted to write something along those lines in my last post but then erased it because it would have been more confusing contradiction from me. But I'll try to explain:

The way I see it, there are two ways Solas could have handled the whole thing that I find viable. Either stick firmly to his mission to restore the elves and resist any emotional entanglement that could compromise things. Keep others out of it to protect them. Accept that he'll be alone in this until the end and be aware of any negative consequences that his proud crusade might have (again!). Or reach out to Lavellan and be honest with her and accept help FFS.

How it actually went down between them was a complete mess that might very easily blow up in his face completely just like his initial rebellion. That's what upsets me so much about the Solas romance. That he keeps making the same mistakes because his pride and shame still rule over him.

My biggest fear is that his inability to really face what he did by sharing his burden will get him killed OR worse Lavellan. So what happens if their paths cross once again and she learns that he was behind the whole thing from somebody else? She would probably feel betrayed. Get it the wrong way. It would be the ultimate tragedy of his character if the Dalish love of life got it wrong once again and saw him as the bad guy, the Dread Wolf. Just because he didn't explain himself out of shame and fear. Stop running, Solas!

I really hope Bioware won't go there, it would be too cruel for me to bear, but I keep seeing this play out in my head. Lavellan forced to kill him because she doesn't understand. Or him struggling with the decision whether or not to sacrifice her to save his people. But killing her would destroy him. So after that I can't see him going on anymore. He'd probably commit suicide and leave it up to some other god to pick up the pieces of his failure. It would be the ultimate defeat.

Solas messed up big time again. Nothing good can come out of running away from himself.

But is Lavellan or the Dalish getting it wrong if his actions cause death and destruction? Whatever his reasons if that's the result then he is the dread friend they fear him to be.

He gave Cory the orb, sealed away the Creators and the Forgotten Ones and neither worked out as he planned. He broke the world twice and if he tries for a third time why should my Lavellan or anyone think that this time he'll get it right?

If anything, I'd say theopposite, that judging by his attitude towards them contemporary elves might even be descendent for some eves that make some terrible, selfish mistake or something like that. More like "they got what they deserved" or something like this

I interpret it that he does feel responsible but has somewhat written off most modern elves as too far gone to be saved. They're just humans with pointed ears who do a few rituals they don't understand. Spirits are more like the elves he remembers. Lavellan, too, because she's "real"- she exists in both worlds, the Fade and the mortal realm. That's similar to how all elves used to be. She's more, in fact- she's like a somniari but one with extraordinary control.

As I've said numerous times in various threads, I think some of his derision is really frustration and anger towards himself for having contributed to the state of how things are. (A pause to remember that he wasn't solely to blame- he was trying to help because other gods were being asshats of the first order.) After seeing his responses to some of the more non-obvious dialogues, like the one where you can accuse him of abandoning the elves, I'm 99% certain that he's deeply troubled about the conditions of modern elves. But, if he focuses on that and on his regret or on incremental solutions, he'll lose sight of the big things that only he can do to try to fix it. "The People need me"- he sees himself as uniquely positioned to turn everything around. That requires that he be single-minded and not get bogged down in putting up shacks in the alienage or trying to instruct Dalish who don't want to know.

I think the thread should be allowed to get......silly....sometimes. Well, with some resemblance to good taste, anyway. But I think it's disingenuous to say last nights descent into debauchery is because nobody has anything left of value to say.

The important part is to be aware that this thread is never going to be perfect, nor is it going to be ideal for everyone all the time.

Because, internet.

We must always strive to be better than the drama and more understanding and respectful of others. In all ways. Just as we can not expect all people to be open and responsive to the detailed sex conversation, we can not always expect people to be beacons of upstanding moral respectability.

All we can do is keep our judgements to a minimum and try to remember to not take ourselves too seriously.

Once someone says they're uncomfortable, it's time to stop. If you want to talk about sex dolls or the actual dimensions of a fictional character's penis, there are other places on the internet for that. There's no need to make this particular thread uncomfortable for others when it has traditionally been a very welcoming place.

More importantly, what upset me and at least one other asexual poster were the comments about people who don't want to see that stuff being immature and unnatural in their views of sex. This is getting into personal attack territory and it really doesn't belong here.

I never suggested otherwise.

We must all be respectful and understanding of anyone who is made uncomfortable.

And no one should be made to feel ashamed or immature about their views.

Not even the people who like talking about dick length.

Shaming goes every way and none of it is appropriate here.

As it is though, I'd much rather talk abut pie and wild theories, so I apologize for bringing the conversation further than it should have been brought.

It certainly tastes like it was stirred with something I could have picked up in my back yard. @w@  I mean, I can swallow the stuff if necessary- it's bearable.  But it's so far from being an enjoyable experience, I can't fathom people who drink it regularly.

Then again, same thing with wine.  Notes of lilac?  Strawberry?  A hint of chocolate?   ....nnnno, just tastes bad.

I'm pretty much an uncultured brute.  *cheerful shrug*

I know, "the people need me" line, totally works against my theory

I agree he cares about the suffering of the elves, but I see it more like he always care for people in trouble, like you always get approval from him for helping refugees and things like that. I never had the feeling that he cares for the elves specifically and that he's trying to given them their "glory" back. I think he's just a compassionate person (in a very universalistic way), but that he's main goal is to restore (some of) the magic of the olds days, not the elven empite per se. And if I'd have to say why, I'd say that he''s doing it mainly to help the spirits somehow, which are the ones he clearly cares about

Did someone say wild theories?   *pounces*

I posted some new Solas-related stuff on this thread, for the theory-minded.  Didn't seem important enough to repost here: just how Balance and Harmony work in terms of the Song, and what Solas' big purpose in DA Universe seems to be.

Ok, I don't want to start up another fight. I just woke up, read the pages that happened after I went to sleep and have come to the following observations. In this thread, we don't fight very much. However, whenever the debates gets heated it's usually for these reasons.

1) When people say something that makes others feel like they are being judged. There is no need to imply that other people are less mature or less whatever because they have a different opinion. It is enough to say one's opinion without going into that. We need to be more careful with our wording especially when we are feeling emotional.

2) When people go into really long rants and write many paragraphs on one opinion. When I see that it kind of makes me feel like they really want to push a point rather than have a calm discussion. Of course, if worded sensitively, length of the post wouldn't do any harm, but that doesn't usually seem the case.

3) When people act as though their opinions/theories are facts and anyone who disagrees is just not accepting the theory because they don't want to for emotional or other reasons. Things like that would likely start fights because no one wants to feel like they are less smart than poster.

These are just my observations. I'm going to drop the issue now.

In terms of the color orange and fashion disasters, I will admit to dressing Solas and my Lavellan in the dragon materials. Always liked orange, and I favor warmer/redder colors. I just made an icy pale skinned, violet/blue eyes, white blond hair. I want to put her in all white. I hate that the materials designate the colors. They should have done this a better way with dyes.

No, you're right!  I take it back.   I had a vanilla chai once that actually tasted good.  It was a totally shocking experience.   ...and sadly, one that I've never been able to duplicate.  bleh.

Is there a secret?  A super-special thing people do that somehow makes it not taste like dead leaves?
