Well here are the site rules: http://forum.bioware...c/3-site-rules/

I guess we should just follow them.

I was wondering if anyone could give me any insight. I saw this video where you encounter Mihris in the Hinterlands.
*snip*

I believe the dialogue was a bit different if you are Dalish. In this case, Mihris is going on about her superior "knowledge" in comparison to a Shemlan about the veil and magic and Solas says "Ma harel, da'len". From what I understand that means 'my deception little one'. She then reacts in a frightened manner. I don't really understand this interaction. Then she goes on to call him a "flat ear", which makes me think she doesn't really fear him. The only conclusion that I can come up with is that she doesn't know what to make of a "city elf" that speaks elvehn and is perplexed, not frightened, by his response. His answers to her are always sarcastic and a bit 'haha, if you only knew'. If this is the same interpretation that other people got, it gives us a bit more insight into what he is a bit perturbed with the Dalish and their pride for knowing "so much".

Does anyone have any thoughts?

I think here "ma" means "you." In other words, "you're lying." I believe he calls her a liar because she lies about why she left her clan. TME spoilers...

Honestly, I don't want people who DO feel comfortable with kinky stuff to feel unwelcomed in this thread. I don't see what the issue is if we're just careful with the tags and labeling. We are part of the fan-base too.

Ah I love The Last Unicorn :) But I don't think the quickening is something that affected all the elves all at once. Abelas and and his fellow guardians definitely seem to be immortal unless killed; and I am guessing Solas is as well. So the question would be why did it affect some and not the others? I wonder if Solas did really lead the slaves in a rebellion maybe the quickening was a  result of that somehow and only the ones still in service to a god (or in Solas' case still a god) would retain their immortality?

On an unrelated note, Sera just asked me about what happened to my face (because I had the vallaslin removed)... which was sort of funny, sad, and also a really nice touch on BioWare's part. I wasn't really expecting that to get referenced by anyone :)

The thought of Ancient elves singing like the last unicorn paints a pretty interesting and sad picture though. That's what bothers me as well. Sounds kind of like Tolken elve situation. They don't age or become ill but they can still die from an external force. did nobles have immortality in comparison to slaves, is it based on people in service to gods, or were more powerful elves were able to keep their link to the fade than others and just coincidentally mythal's followers or what was left were high members.

Solas calls her out on her lie about being still being First to clan Virhren(?) which throws her a bit and she insults his magical abilities/knowledge trying to gain the upper hand. Solas isn't much better because he's trying to prove himself the more elfy elf by only talking to her in elvhen, he's probably still bitter about Spoilers.

I like that she's a bit different with a fellow dalish. Even knowing what happened in TME I would have liked to tell her to go find clan Lavellan in the Free Marches or ask if she would join the Inquisition.

There shouldn't be an issue if people use tags and labeling. I think that's acceptable to everyone but by the time the suggestion came up, it was already an argument.

Honestly, I'd just like the implication that there's a "natural" way to approach sex and talking about sex to stay out of this thread. A lot of queer posters have had that idea used to hurt and dehumanize them and it was really unpleasant to see it here.

I actually think we decided to keep the kinky stuff but with tags and labelling. I don't mind it (I'm not here for that, but hey, it's okay!), but others might, and we should all feel welcomed here. So it's fine, really. :) Please let's all be unicorns again?

BSN rules are fairly strict. Back in the day they were more heavily enforced. They seem to be a bit lax, but I definitely recommend people who link to NSFW art or stories do so by linking them elsewhere, and not embedded into the site. I'm not sure if that protects you from getting banned, but it does help.

In fact, it used to be that anything super offtopic could get a thread shut down.

Guys, I feel a bit sad, but I am not sure at this point whether it's even ok to just label and tag. These are the forum rules. They seem really strict (and maybe a bit harsh imo).

  • Profanity is not allowed
The use of profanity is not allowed. Please be respectful of your fellow players, and do not use this sort of language. This includes intentionally working around the word filter or partially masking profanity by substituting characters or words. The intent will still be clear.
  • Some actions can result in the immediate suspension of forum privileges
There are some actions severe enough to result in immediate temporary or permanent suspension of posting privileges without prior notification. Serious or sustained offenses may result in suspension of not only the user's forum account but game account as well.
    Examples include:
    • Threats against anyone or any group.
    • Viruses, malware, worms, or Trojans.
    • Sexually explicit content.
    • Sharing personal information about BioWare/Electronic Arts volunteers, employees, or any other individuals.
    • Hate speech, including the degrading or vilifying of a particular race, religion, ethnic group, gender, sexual preference, or sexual identity, as well as any members of these groups.
    • Evading suspension through account hopping.
    • Impersonation of a BioWare/Electronic Arts employee or community member.
    • Promoting or linking to exploits, cheating programs, piracy, or any sort of illegal activity

*snip*

That's exactly what I meant. As a lover, they should not depend on you like that. Thus my decision to let Solas make his own decisions and take responsibility for his actions. I think Solas is wise and does understand that. I let him kill the mages and he did not try to put the responsibility on my shoulders like "you should have stopped me" or something.

As to their emotional well-being... I resent this a little. I myself am not a person without a lot of issues, and I use that in what I do. It's an integral part of who I am, it is what ultimately gives me strength, because I have seen depth and I have been enriched by it. I resent the idea that having issues is a horrible and nasty thing that needs to be cut out, fixed, patched, healed because it's wrong or bad for you or evil or whatnot. There are treasures in sadness and pain, and I think that to try to just eliminate it without the person themselves wanting to take that step by themselves is intrusive and disrespectful.

*snip*

I really like your post. I understand the distinction you make better now and you make a lot of good point and I agree for the most part.

I didn't mean to imply that we should force people to comply to our morality. That never ends well. More in the sense of advice. We cannot save people from themselves. And it's not our responsibility either. I admit I struggle with that sometimes because I care so much and want to help people work through their issues. I am a deeply moralistic person, and it's also one of my flaws.

I cannot just let people run into a minefield without at least voicing my concern. What they do with my advice is their business. I let them be after that and watch the drama unfold from the sidelines. Just as they do when I make poor choices. As I said, change comes from inside and cannot be forced. However, I do believe that sometimes we have blind spots that we do not become aware of unless somebody draws attention to them. I'm very grateful when people confront me with things I was unaware of, even if it stings like hell for a while. A friend kept me from making a huge relationship mistake last year and I'll be eternally grateful for that. He saved me the heartache because I listened for once. I didn't want to see it, but he was right and I realized it before it was too late.

But you are right, there is a fine line between advice and forcing our morals on people. In Solas' case my point was that he probably wasn't thinking straight and would perhaps have regretted it afterwards. Yes, I get what you're saying about that people need to make their own mistakes to grow and change. You are absolutely right. But depending on your character's morality, which may or may not be your own, just letting him do it without advising him not to might compromise your own ideals. So respect for the other person's individuality would include Solas to respect that you are against killing the mages and need to voice that. In the game you can actually stop him from doing it. But isn't that his own decision then to listen to you? You do not stop him by force, he stops voluntarily and quite quickly. Which seems to indicate acceptance of your objection even though you get a disapprove. But that disapproval reflects his current emotional state, not necessarily his usual self.

I did not mean to imply that having issues is bad. We all do, the sum of them makes us unique. The nicest people I know have the biggest psychological issues. Pain and suffering actually help us to grow and become better people. We can draw great strength from our battles, our pain. One could say idealism is colossal pain. That's what Solas' character is all about. That pain over a world that is not free and his failure to achieve this freedom. But idealism is also pride in our ideals and this pride keeps us from adapting and considering alternative options.

I whole-heartedly agree that a big relationship trap is trying to change our partner into an ideal. I am fiercely individualistic to a degree that I'm too stubborn for my own good. We need to let people be their own person though. What I meant was that when we see our partner in pain or do things that harm them objectively like drug abuse or something, then I don't see anything wrong with trying to help them overcome it. Even if that means we have to be a little bit cruel sometimes. There are many different ways to support people and help them. To me there is a big difference between disapproving of harmful behavior and disapproving of their dress style.

I completely disregarded what kind of character people play. I was strictly discussing my own morality and interpretation of Solas character through it. And what I perceive to be a lesson that could be drawn from his character and the romance. Of course Lavellan can be totally supportive of killing the mages. Mine was not, so she objected. I did not play her exactly in my own image, for the most part, but not not entirely. She believes in the elven gods while I'm agnostic for example.

About confronting our dark side: yes, one of my favorite books is Lord of The Flies which basically says exactly what you stated. Unless we accept our violent side we cannot control it. We need to understand that it's there or it will sneak up on us and make us do horrible things. The beast is not external, it's inside ALL of us. The biggest mistake we can make is to pretend the bad guys are inherently different from us. We all can be corrupted, broken down and changed into a monster. Nobody is safe from that.

And yes, it's Solas' pride that gets in the way of him confronting that darkness inside of him. I guess I just disagree on what level of violence we need to experience to understand that. Maybe having these thoughts is enough to make us realize what we're capable of. I do not think killing the mages is a necessary step for his character development. I understand why one might see it that way. Or roleplay it that way. It certainly adds grittiness to his character arc and I get the appeal.

Oh hey that's me playing! Hahaha *is ashamed of the loot-jumping!*

Guys you have no idea the state I was in recording this. It was my second PT and I raced to this quest. During my first PT, I had best-buddied Solas, and despite not being able to romance him, became infatuated ;-; And then the end credits scene. I felt like flipping a table. I felt so... vulnerable I guess? On behalf of my quiz, and for my own feelings.

So on this PT I started recording everything to do with Solas. Also taking screenies. For this particular quest:

tumblr_ngddvjBPoX1srplcto1_1280.jpg

At the time I found this sacrificial ritual on the floor mega creepy. Like, this is the first and *particular* place Solas wants to go to when given a favour. Like... Solas.... is this where you woke up? Were you summoned by somebody into this world? Did it involve blood magic?
But that's crazy, whatevs.

Just be logical! Worst case, you'll get a warning from the mods. But for the sake of the thread and the fact that people have voiced a desire to use more tagging, always be respectful. Like I said earlier, don't embed it on the site. Link off site. That's generally your best bet for managing NSFW or questionable content safely.

I'll say this: you guys are no where near as bad as the great ME2/ME3 character thread wars. Where things got so bad, we were banned from even making character threads. Nuked the whole place rather than deal with the drama.

I would suggest also as someone with a lot of experience with the mods here to try to work your differences out without reporting a post, unless it's clearly a troll.

No need to draw attention here if a simple hey please don't do that will suffice.

The mods would more likely burn the ground and salt it before listening to reason.

Actually...it has been speculated Solas was awoken by blood magic. There's that whole questionable redemption continuity. The web series with Felicia Day? In it, they sacrifice a dalish women in order to speak with Fen'Harel. We don't know if it worked, but something happened.

Not sure if the location matches up though, or if redemption is even canon.
