Yeah, there's definitely an equal amount of evidence supporting him wanting to release the gods, and him wanting to keep them shut up. I think he definitely has guilt about it, probably because he sees his own crime as no different than theirs. Sure, they were killing people in sacrifices and abusing their power- but he caused the fall of the empire. Technically he's the worst one. [In his mind, at least.]
There's also a theory that it isn't the elven gods he wants to free, but all the other elves who potentially got trapped within Fen'Harel's snare. If he sealed off a portion of Arlathan itself, there could be potentially thousands suffering a fate worse than death. No way to know for sure, but, its definitely another possible read on the things he says.
Right, he definitely feels guilt over his actions for a bunch of reasons-- the innocent people caught in the crossfire, the ruin of the empire, and probably over betraying the other 'gods,' however bad they might have been. But he can certainly feel guilty about what he did and still know that releasing them is the wrong move. Like damn, the more you learn about the elven 'gods' the more you realize it's probably good they're locked inside an Eluvian somewhere!
I hadn't heard about that Arlanthan theory, but it's a good one!
I suspect that his plan is to free all the slaves of Thedas
I'm leaning that way too, but it's such a noble freaking goal, so why can't he tell the inquisitor about it? He can tell her the 'what' without telling her the full 'why', if he's really worried about the whole being an ancient elf god thing impacting their relationship, haha.
Hahahahaha, fricken' Sera! My party: Cass, Egghead, Andr- I mean Sera... Walk into Redcliffe Village...

I imagined Solas did this:

I wonder, how many people believe that they DID go to bed in Canon?
I think my Lavellan and Solas slept together, probably after Halamshiral (which I did as soon as completed All New, Faded For Her which I did as soon as I got to Skyhold).
That was my take on it too. I don't think Solas can force Cole to forget, but more suggest that Cole make himself forget. Cole is susceptible to the emotions of others, and we know that he trusted Solas a fair bit.
There's also the fact that Cole is even able to relay the message back. If Solas was wiping the memory himself, why not also wipe the memory of him telling Cole to forget? I suppose its possible that Solas was communicating with him telepathically, but I assumed Cole was just 'parroting' back what had happened.
In a subtle way letting the Inquisitor know what had happened, even if Cole could not mentally process it himself.
Hmn, I interpreted it as Solas imposing his will to make Cole forget, just as Cole makes people forget about him. As someone mentioned, in one of the banters we see Solas simply cut off Cole's ability to access his pain. This could also offer insight into the nature of what Solas is. He points out that Cole's talents are not that of a mage, but of something else. A spirit? Something we haven't seen before? That's also how Solas describes the Elven "gods."
Also, does anyone else suspect that Solas was using some version of this magic to keep people from becoming too suspicious of him? Like, a spell that made it difficult for them to think about him for too long, so they would dismiss the thought as unimportant?
Maybe I'm just trying to make myself feel better about my Inquisitor's total lack of a clue.... ![]()
Solas said to Cassandra that magic is the distorting of reality and that templars enforce reality. The fade is a place where you can distort reality however you want. It is a place of pure magic I am guessing. There was a time when the dragons rule the skies and there was no veil in place. I am guessing that Solas is hoping to bring down the veil to return to those times, but spread the magic more equally so that there wouldn't be one powerful group ruling over another. More elaboration on my theory here: http://forum.bioware...-veil-spoilers/
I'm feeling all emotional, I've just finally spoken to Alistair about my Warden and it punched me right in the fuzzies... After the conversation the camera pans round and there's Solas and I'm like "IT WAS YEARS AGO! He was important to me once, don't look at me like that!".
*snip*

Well, I read some fanfic about how Lavellan was around during the time of Arlathan and got killed while helping him out. That's my headcanon and it explains why he cannot risk seeing her dead again because he has already seen it once. T_T
I love tea. Hot tea, cold tea. English tea, green, white, grey, red, black. Fruit tea, milk tea, boba tea, chai tea. All of it except for the southern sweet tea. It's like, "Hai. Would you like two tablespoons of tea with your bucket of white sugar?" YECH!
If I could actually meet Solas, I would be like, "Let's have a quiet lunch and talk about the Fade and stuffs." All while I serve tea and biscuits....dog biscuits. I would just watch his face as he stares at it all in horror and be like
Anyone posted this already ?
That's what I thought in the first place. I got very confused when I saw people acting like he'd made Cole forgot him entirely (mostly because I have an utter hatred of mindwipe plots. I like Cole because you can stop him from doing the 'forget' thing)

WHHHHY?! Why must Solas and Lavellan's ending be so sad!! My heart should not hurt this much
There are no gifs to properly express my pain, someone please help me lol
Oh wait, found one.

Yuuup, this is me. </3
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE let there be a Wolf Hunt DLC! I don't think I could bring myself to play any more Dragon Age games without some sort of resolution for Solavellan. I'm way to attached to this story to have it end there T_T

I was glad that Solas speaks so highly of Alistair
I also like that there's stuff in the game that could support his goals going to way with the freeing or not of the gods. I do wonder how it fits into Mythal's larger goals because I doubt she would've just let him take her power if it did nothing to further her own plans. All I really know of her goals is that vengeance is one aspect of them, and I can't really see how that would fit without the gods being released...unless it was not another god that betrayed her, but someone/something else. She also states that the whole world was also betrayed, which kind of makes me think there is a larger presence out in Thedas besides the elven pantheon that may come into play.
Yeah, I think this is key. Whatever Solas is doing, whether he is aware of it or not, I am sure Flemeth/Mythal's vengeance plot factors into it.

Oh hell no! That's not happening! Hawke is getting a one way ticket to The Fade this PT... I'm even going to upset Solas by keeping the Wardens around..because Alistair, he'll be fine with it, he just needs to let Lavellan explain...my Warden is Dalish too and JUST like her! They'd get on great!
I'm from the south, though I live in the Midwest now. Thank God for Mc Donalds sweet tea, as it's the only tea sweet enough to be drank like we did it growing up- with a full cup of sugar for every gallon of tea.
I can't be bothered to make it but if it's not actual brewed sweet tea it's blech. Like, instant tea or lemon nestea....or out of a fountain? Ew.
Anyone else have a romanced warden Alistair but their warden did the ultimate sacrifice? I did and I waited and waited for alistair to mention her. But he never does. I was hoping he'd say something. I left him in the fade to die because I couldn't leave Fenris alone and at least that way Alistair and my warden could be together again.
But I was really disappointed that a romanced warden alistair doesn't mention dead warden.
I guess it's because asking about the Warden leads into the Contact the Hero of Ferelden mission? Maybe? It doesn't really make sense why he wouldn't talk about her. Does a romanced Leliana+dead Warden also not mention her?

My Hawke romanced Fenris! And is my favourite (and canon) Hawke. I couldn't stand the thought of leaving her, either. I just wanted to yell 'NOPE', grab them both and run out.

I made a special sacrifical Hawke who didn't romance anybody, especially so that I could talk to Alistair and not have to leave him in The Fade... ![]()
Every PT before this has used my canon WS, which is Queen Cousland and I was SO sad and frustrated at not being able to talk to Alistair...
