On a semi-related note, what's the confirmed last name of a human Inquisitor again? Trevelyan or something like that? This matters because I'm finally writing Parts 2 and 3 of that thing I promised to write for y'all and now that we know most our companions are more likely to address us by our surnames instead of just "Inquisitor". This thread needs something to help tide it over. Hopefully, I'll have that something in, like, 2-3 hours. Depending on how much writing happens between periods of staring at the Word document lost in space.

I'm actually getting more and more attached to this idea of Solas as a sympathetic not-quite-villain.  Between Flemeth's fascinating, if vague, ramblings, Sandal's 'everyone will have magic' prophesy, and all the suggestions since Origins that the Age of the Dragon is supposed to be one of massive change, I wonder if these Fade tears aren't quite the catastrophe we think they are.  

 

Yes, the timing would be unfortunate, what with the templar/mage war going on, and all the various regions in Thedas dealing with some sort of political mess (or the threat of one), but maybe the Fade crossing into the physical realm isn't necessarily a bad thing? It's just the majority populace's attitude toward the Fade and magic that makes it so demons pour out (or exist at all).  

 

So maybe Solas' role in whatever is responsible is to ease that transition somehow, or choose who is worthy.  or maybe he split from the 'big bad' when whatever idealistic hope he had for the Fade tears changing the world for the better was dashed when he saw what it ended up causing?  So he pulls away from the 'big bad' and offers to help the Inquisiton instead...

I like this speculation. I think I gave you a like? (some pages back I ran out of them) Yeah, I won't lie in that I totally forgot what Sandal said in the second game! Good catch! I can see him pushing for the transition.

 

Yeah, I've never planned a romance on the first run through before or been so personally invested in a character pre-playing. Solas ending up as my son's idol (he's made his xbox live avatar and name Solas and made a wood elf in Skyrim named Solas) definitely has something to do with it and I think his forehead scar coming back is actually more of a thing for me than him being romanceable due to that../snip

If you don't mind me asking, and maybe I should just message you about this, but what made him like Solas? Did he see the picture and identify with him due to the face scar?

Iron Bull is confirmed not race gated, and he is pansexual.  But there is zero info on whether or not Patrick had more than one LI.  If he had written two, it definitely wouldn't be Cole as the second one, so that would leave Solas.  But we just don't know.

Yeah, IB isn't race-gated.  Also, I keep seeing people mentioning these romance tweets Patrick has apparently made, but have no idea what they're talking about!

What's really grating to me right now about the reveals is that there's nothing left to offset things. I was totally chill before, because there were the character reveals coming and LI announcements mixed in. There was always a feeling that something else was coming soon. Now it's just anticipation left with no promise of anything coming soon at all. There's nothing else besides the last LI reveals that I want to know before release and we have no idea at all of what spectrum of time we're looking at for reveal. I want to keep optimistic, but the way things are, it's hard not to be a bit deflated. I wish they would just clear the air so we could get to discussing fan theories and stuff without the anxiety and waiting. It gives us plenty of time to let go of our favorites and try to warm up to others right now. I just hope the reveal doesn't take much longer.

Indeed, the first image that got released of his face where it could be seen, my son has a scar that very nearly matches Solas' one. A bunch of folk here were complementing the scar and I showed my son the image and read him the (clean) comments. T has always been very self conscious about his scar. Now he isn't and has really latched onto Solas and I always show him any new images and fanart that shows up of him. He gets very excited and anytime a fanart is missing the scar he always asks why they didn't include it. It's a huge deal to him. (He just turned 6 wednesday.) And thusly it has become a huge deal to me. And the wonderful folk on the old thread spent the next couple pages bolstering my son and sharing stories of their own scars or scars on their significant others.

 

It was a really great moment, one of those "faith in humanity: restored" kind of things. I owe everyone a lot for that.

Edit: my 4 year old does this, haha. If he sees his cousins aren't wearing shirts or pants he thinks he should match.
