Sort of makes sense,

I think I haven't been following the posts too good (I've been working the entire time, it's plausible I've missed some a lot).

Since when do individuals have songs?

Most of the backtheory is here, though there are bits and pieces of related stuff all over the place in this thread, since I generally don't write it all out together.  Maybe I should.  >w<  Ugh.  That would be... long.

I could try to write up some basic theory connecting how Creation/Magic works in terms of Song (Blood) in tandem with Fade (fade-shadows, spirits, souls, whatever you want to call them) and how that maps to the physical races of Thedas, though: inherentence and the Quickening and such.  I think that's the part that's still 90% in my head.

I was watching a nature documentary, and it was talking about bears and other animals hibernating...  And all I could think of was Dirthamen and uthenera.

It's ok... I was watching the last unicorn yesterday and couldn't stop thinking of elvhen people's downfall.

Alignment-wise, yea that'd fit. Solas might be closer to Gannayev, though. Mr. I love spirits and did-it-to-save-them-chaotic-good.  Vivienne would totally rock being a Red Wizard, though. All the political crap would suit her well.

True. And we know he likes walking in dreams.

Oh! I got it. Cullen would make a great Okku. He's finally learned to be a middle of the road chap and still follows a somewhat strict personal code of honor. His pretty hair is totally equivalent to the painted bear.

Totally similar, right?!

Must I bring up lovecraft? That a dead god can still dream?

Wait, wait. GET INTO THAT.

Embarassingly enough, I've never read Lovecraft, and that's... interesting.  I assumed the Earth's spirit was severed from her original form when she died, but (I think?) that we could only conceive of that as an entirely separate Fade, distinct from the one we know.  So now I'm trying to wrap my mind around what that would mean in terms of pieces passing from one fade-universe to another, and coming up empty.

Or if was still all one conceptual universe, the intact spirit couldn't have possibly passed through the fade as we know it, but tiny fragments- pieces of Mythal- managed to do it anyway.  Somehow.

What's the basic idea?  How does it work?

I don't know about we, but I totally am. I started comparing companions and tried to decide which one they relate to best.

So far it's Ammon Jerro = Leliana

Kaelyn = Cassandra

Gann = Solas

Safiya = Vivienne

Okku = ...Cullen

Not sure about Myrkul, Kelemvor, or Safiya's old lady soul half. One of those is probably Flemythal.

Also Arlathan = Netheril and the Elvhenan empire is Netherise.

To madrar (since the quote feature for some reason is not working for me):  Do you have a blog anywhere?  Because I absolutely ADORE reading all of your complex theories & in my opinion, they are substantive enough and of such quality that they really should be archived somewhere.

Leather Mummy wraps to preserve his ancient elven body?

*brain explodes*

Not literally, I don't think, but as a possible aesthetic nod to the whole Solas-Osiris/Uthenera thing?   Clever, subtle move by the art team.   Totally didn't pick that up.

Every time a theorist is worried that their theory is too crazy, I think: At least they haven't made a theory about everyone relating to each other or Crossing games like connecting red lyrium with reapers.

Also... $5 on the table the second down on the left is a Kissith. Also, is it just me or do the two halla heads 3 down on the right have vallaslin? And why are the horn styles of the bottom two deer/ halla/ elks different?

Edit: Not to overlook the fantastic crosshatching on those ancient elven buns... ooooh yeah!

I think...

Kaelyn = Leliana (religious, "To the Nine Hells with the old order of things! Let's burn everything and start anew!" *ahem*).
Safiya = Vivienne (mage, bald, POLITICS).
Gann = ...Iron Bull? (because... they both talk about women a lot? Also, both are... gray).
Okku = either Cullen or Blackwall. Or even Cass.
Ammon Jerro = FleMythal or Morrigan.
Myrkul = Cory (because BIG BAD). Or Dumat (because big bad and "dead").
Kelemvor = Solas (no logical explanation aside of both of them being gods, sorry ^^").

T'would be great to see HiRes picture, this one is too small to make anything out. Also I'd be very careful when elaborating art pieces. Some details might not be relevant at all.

Okay, work with me here.

  • Fade (Heaven) (Elvish Pantheon)
  • Void (Earth) (Forgotten Ones) (Dwarven Deities)

Dwarven Deities have magic?   Can you fill me in on the background there?   (gah, I really need to stop theorycrafting and just play DA:O/2 again)

Does this make the anchor the soul-eater? If so that means Coryfish is the Red Woman since they're responsible to the PC getting possessed by it.

I posted about this in the Cullen thread, but I'm guessing it's possible some people here might be interested in this exploit/bug I encountered.  I'm not 100% sure if it's repeatable, but I was able to romance both Cullen and Solas fully until the end of the game- intact.  I didn't do it intentionally, it just sort of happened and I rolled with it until the end out of curiosity.  Here's how it happened:

My Lavellan kissed Solas in the Fade, and then immediately after when she woke up she agreed with Solas that it was best to remain friends by hitting the broken heart icon.  Despite this, Solas acknowledged the kiss after his personal quest on the balcony.  I thought, "Oh well why the hell not?", and had my Lavellan kiss him after he brought it up again.  The romance flag didn't actually lock her into it, however, and Solas will continue to call her Lethallan and Friend; neither will Sera, Vivienne, or the gossipers acknowledge their romance.  I was then free to pursue the Cullen romance, because I assumed what happened must have been a fluke.  I just headcanoned that they decided it couldn't work out and it was some time later (after Cullen's personal quest, Perseverance, in fact) that I initiated the Cullen romance.  Cullen's romance will lock in, and be acknowledged in his dialogue and outside gossip.

At the Winter Palace, Lavellan can request a dance from both Cullen and Solas, but it will be Cullen who will pursue her on the balcony to dance.

The end, after the Temple of Mythal, was when things became interesting.  Solas's romance scene does trigger and my Lavellan had the choice to remove her vallaslin (I decided to keep it so things wouldn't get too bizarre).  Solas's tarot card actually changed, too, despite his romance not being the active one.  The end scenes play out exactly as if she's romancing Cullen and Solas.  Here are some screenshots:

Well, Arlathan WAS pulled down underground by Tevinter, wasn't it?

Whoa, whoa.  Not Tevinter.  Tevinter just swept in and mopped up the crumbs after the civil war that followed the fall of Arlathan.  All the evidence we have points to elves being the direct cause of Arlathan being sealed away.

(Specifically the Falon'Din-Mythal-Elgar'nan triad, if you subscribe to the idea of necessary "revolution magic", and the degree of sheer power needed to accomplish such a thing.)

Dwarven Deities have magic?   Can you fill me in on the background there?   (gah, I really need to stop theorycrafting and just play DA:O/2 again)

Theoretically.

If we take the primeval thaig as an example..here is the codex from that area.

Your Majesty,

It's difficult getting a straight answer out of the scavenger. These sods get themselves so blighted they can't think straight, much less keep spit in their mouths. He says, however, that he's gone down into parts of the Deep Roads that are so old that our people forgot them long before the Blight even happened.

He spoke of great statues and temples--temples! He spoke of things that could have only been made of magic and of impossible ruins untouched by darkspawn. He described creatures the likes of which we've never seen.

None of it's possible, of course. I've conferred with the Shaper and he says the Memories date back to the founding of the first thaig--what could have come before that? Yes, we're unable to explore these depths the scavenger spoke of because of the darkspawn, but surely the Memories would speak of such places if they existed.

Yet in this scavenger's belongings, amidst all the filth, there was a single idol. It was clearly of dwarven make, but not resembling any Paragon on record. The idol was dressed in a manner I've never seen. The Shaper of Memories also could not identify it or the substance from which it was made. The thought that the Memories might be wrong... unsettling.

— Excerpt from a report sealed in the Orzammar royal archives by order of King Annalar Geldinblade in 8:48 Blessed.

Interesting parts bolded.

That's why I think the dwarven deities are the forgotten ones.

Mask of the Betrayer is one of the best PC RPGs of all time! (In my opinion.) SQUEE!!!

EDIT: Oh, shoot. Thinking about it made me realize I haven't played this game since before I discovered DAO back in summer 2011, and I didn't even get a chance to finish it because of a virus that melted my computer. =(

Dagna : (...) I've learned something. I think. I don't know.
Dagna : I got a scraping that was cleaned off you. And it's weird. And the other rift bits, they're weird. It's just... weird.
Dagna : Lyrium and the fade, linked. But dwarves and tranquil, not linked. But they work lyrium, so they are. Somehow? (looks like me when I begin to write an essay)
Dagna : There's something there. I was face-deep in a rune, and for a moment... I was tall. Really tall.
Dagna : And I thought -- I thought all the thoughts. (nervous laugh)
Inquisitor : You felt taller ? How much taller ?
Dagna : Like, mountain-tall. Or I was the mountain. But I was moving. I felt dizzy.
Dagna : You know what I remembered ? Watching a shaperate carve the wall of memory. Except... big. Isn't that weird ? Maybe there were fumes.
Inquisitor : What do you mean when you say "thought all the thoughts"?
Dagna : I don't know ? As if, for a moment, I was around all my people. And my thought was all of theirs ? No, no, my thought was all of our thoughts. Like parts. Ugh, words are mush.
Dagna : Maybe that's what the Stone feels like. Or we think it feels like. If we think it feels ? Creepy.
Inquisitor : So tranquil and dwarves are linked to lyrium, but also not linked ?
Dagna : Like the lyrium needs to flow, but if you're part of it, it takes you with it. so you can't be part of it. That makes me sad. I'm not sure why. It seems like whe should be part of it. Whatever "it" is.
Dagna : Or maybe we're the ones who make it happen ? Whatever "it" is ?
Dagna : You know what's frustrating ? Answers that aren't answers. Bleah. (I see you Bioware.)
Dagna : I tried to make it happen again, but it wouldn't. Then I had a headache. And cocoa. And a lie-down.

That conversation always makes me wonder if Dagna has Stone Sense.  That's what they called it in DAO I think.  But the dwarves have all since lost their stone sense.  The Titan thing could be it too.  The Titan blood grants "stone sense"? I am sure smarter people than me can come up with something.
