Clearly we need to change the topic to nsfw stuff. Hmm, Solas' body is so manly. Is it considered a swimmer's body?
I think Solas could also play lacrosse.

There's no need to be so defensive.
I apologize if I've offended you, but we have a right to whatever "ridiculous" theories we want. This is not a religious debate, it's an internet forum. I don't think anyone was being disrespectful of your religion.
I feel like I'm the only one defending Solas here. Why would anyone compare him to Satan is beyond me. I don't want to argue with you lovelies I like most of the theories that ya'll talk about in here but that one. And I don't feel like anyone was disrespecting my religion but I just don't like that theory and it's not the first time that popped up. Satan is evil and I would never put Solas in that category ever. ![]()
If ya'll want to talk about that theory ...go ahead yes you all have the right to talk about it.
idk if it's been posted (hasn't that I've seen in the last... 6? 7? pages? but it's hard to keep up) but I really loved this solavellan drabble/filet
except below:

Hey everyone. I understand that comparing Solas to the devil might be interesting and a valid form of interpretation in terms of literary things.
However.
Roxy is clearly a woman of God and she has studied the bible and her faith. I think we should respect our surroundings and avoid that topic. Maybe keep our comparisons to non abrihamic gods. Roxy sees the devil as a very real entity that causes lots of harm. I don't think people of faith will want to hear that the man they have a crush on is like the thing that actively hurts their lives.
I am not a woman of god, but I can respect that someone else might feel that way. This would be a very hurtful and confusing topic to cover. So I think we should stay in the realm of fantasy or gods that are not currently worshipped on a wide scale.
In Roxy's eyes, we may as well be comparing Solas to a current and real dictator who murdered millions and is directly affecting us at this moment. So let's respect that.
Edit: And she's not being defensive. I think the topic might look like a direct attack on her faith.
People keep saying this but there's nothing in what Nightmare says that gives Solas away. He calls him deceiver and says that his pride will be his downfall. It's innocuous enough that there's no spoiler in it- unlike Blackwall.Like the Nightmare speaking in elven to Solas and Lavellan forgetting she can understand elven?
And like the time she forgot who Mythal was?
I love the fact that they made four playable races but sometimes it really shows this was once human only.
First off I did not say " YOU HAVE TO STOP" I said please stop. But if you want to keep on with this ridicluous theory go ahead. I also have a right to put out my opinion as well.
Second yeah I am religious and don't take someone comparing Solas to a Fallen angel lightly.
Third I don't give a rats a if it's from a book Satan is Satan.
I can kind of understand where you're coming from (I'm also a Christian), though I honestly don't really understand your objection, but I don't want to start a religious debate. I honestly don't think anyone was trying to be offensive. I'm sure there are a wide variety of religious views represented in this forum, but we've been able to get along swimmingly so far. I'd hate for us to start turning the thread into a religious argument; I hate religious arguments...and politics. I like Solas, though. Solas is the shiny egg that binds us all together, people!
Edit: Aaaand in the three edits of this post that I went through, Sashimi beat me to it and much more eloquently. LOL.
Edit part duex: I honestly don't see any reason not to do religious comparisons, but I don't want people to feel uncomfortable either. *shrugs*

Actually, that's an interesting observation. He does have that reversed-triangle shape normally associated with swimmers. I like how the male characters run the gamut of body types. At one end you've got Iron Bull, who's got insane muscles. Then there's Blackwall, who looks like a guy who used to be really fit in his younger days but has acquired a bit of a paunch since then. Cullen's a warrior in his prime, and he's got your standard quarterback build. So does Dorian, but I'd anticipate that's mostly good genes. He strikes me as kinda lazy. And finally you've got Solas. Compared to the humans and the Qunari he's practically lithe, but he's got way more bulk to him than your standard elf. It's the broad shoulders and narrow hips that really caught my attention when I saw him in his sweater-tunic. His hobo armor doesn't do his build justice. It breaks up all of those nice, clean lines. His Skyhold outfit, though, is actually quite flattering. It really shows him off.
Anybody have a really good full-body shot of Solas in his casual clothes?

Change of topic. I was watching Toei Animation's 1975 version of Hans Christian Andersen's The Little Mermaid, and felt that Marina's song, "When a Mermaid Comes of Age," had lyrics that seemed depressingly fitting for a female Lavellan in love with Solas. Your milage may vary on how fitting the song proper is (I guess if you changed the word "mermaid" to "Dalish" and changed the line "she prepares to become a bride" to "she prepares to receive her vallaslin"):
After Solas dumps Lavellan though, the tragic reprise becomes tragically fitting.
It just seems so fitting, especially after Cole's potential comment about how Solas "hurts, an old pain from before, when everything sang the same."
Our hearts sang the same, you note-killing heart-breaker! *shakes fist*

I appreciate what you're saying. I can't speak for anyone else, but I don't see any issue with that at all.
To be fair it wasn't really a discussion. It was one comment made a few hours ago.
I'm all for respect for everyone. i did afterall stick my neck out for some folks just the other day ;-) It really wasn't a religious debate. Purely academic observation. No one here wants to attack someone's faith. That respect and acceptance goes both ways. And with that I'll be back later.

If we're not going to compare Solas to the Abrahamic gods, let's not compare him to any gods that are not strictly in the realm of fantasy. If we're worried about offending people, it's not OK to be willing to just offend people who worship lesser-known gods.

For some reason I really liked his legs/feet.. WHY I HAVE NO IDEA.
Can someone link me the chart? I was gonna whip up my elf mage for the 1000x time, I really like seeing what the tattoos mean
Any preferences on hair colors for the members of the pantheon? Definitely think Sylaise will be some form of redhead. Andruil could go blonde or brown for me, I don't much mind. Ghilal'nain is white haired due to lore/ canon. Fen'Harel/Solas is a ginger-brunette (look at his cute eyebrows! that's totally his hair color). I'd probably push Dirthamen into raven-black.
Everyone is fair game and I'd love your guy's opinions.
And I'm unsure how much if at all I should change Mythal's character design from Flemythal's. Definitely would make her younger for sure, but I'm unsure about hair color, dragon hair horns, color palette etc. I think Morrigan tells the Warden that her mother had dark hair like her's when she was younger, but again, that's Flemythal not Mythal. Wolf pack! Direct me!
If we're talking hair color, here's what comes to my mind when I picture them:
Elgar'nan = Blond
Mythal = Silver
Andruil = Brown or auburn
June = Brown
Falon'Din = Black
Dirthamen = Black
Sylaise = Deep red
Fen'Harel = Auburn
Ghilan'nain's hair is obviously white due to lore. Is it weird that whenever I think of how Ghilan'nain looks like, I picture her to look like Lady Amalthea from The Last Unicorn? Beautiful, hair of white, etc.
Somewhere in the west:
Hawke: I don't know about this plan, Solas. Everything is on fire.
Solas: My girlfriend said that if we keep trying, eventually it'll turn out alright.
Hawke: That's brilliant! More fire. It'll stop the other fire.
Inquisitor shows up
You made this gif even more relevant, lol
Why am I out of likes? xD You guys never fail to make me laugh. ![]()

Abelas too (who BTW I'm totally shipping with my Mahariel).
My concern is that eventually there will be nothing left we can draw from the real world for conversations or theories because every real world parallel has been take off the table for fear of offending someone.
I understand, though, and will respect all of that for the peace of the thread.
However, if anyone wants to talk dick length and religious parallels please feel free to pm me.
Especially with the smut. Do want.
Back in the day there was a NSFW Alistair group which kept smutty stuff off the main page. I think it still needs to be links only and not embedded but if someone starts one, they will.... join. ![]()
Just scrolling past things you don't like covers a lot of bases.
Best heart line. Polite nerdy compliment... on to the Fade tongue!
Solas can break your heart more than once in this game. Warning, sadface.
Spoiler
I took him on that mission in my 2nd playthrough. It was indeed heartbreaking. ![]()

I'd really much rather move on, but I will say that people have valid reasons to compare Solas to a literary interpretation of Satan/Lucifer. The fact is that our western literary tradition is steeped in biblical allusions, and Inquisition draws on those quite heavily. The Inquisitor is quite blatantly set up as a messiah figure. Promotional war table shots mapped very heavily onto Da Vinci's The Last Supper. The themes of godhood, ascention, belief, and faith are very central to the story. So people aren't just taking these comparisons out of thin air. The developers are very consciously drawing upon this literary tradition. And while I don't think it's a perfect comparison, the fact of the matter is that Milton's interpretation of Satan as a rebellious figure may have had some influence on the creation of the Fen'harel/Solas character. I drew comparisons to Prometheus, but Milton also made the comparison between Lucifer and Prometheus himself in his own work in order to humanize the character. In order to participate in literary theory and criticism, then you kind of have to be aware of the biblical roots of a great majority of western literature, and be able to separate that from personal beliefs. So no, I really don't think the subject should be declared forbidden, so long as we acknowledge that we're talking about stories and not doctrine.
Agreed. I'm pretty sure PW says in a tweet that Solas doesn't use blood magic because it disrupts one's connection to the Fade. But that doesn't mean that you can't use it to just brute-force your way in. But doing that is very much opposed to what Dreamers do, which is travel the Fade without damaging the veil.
EDIT: And I don't like the idea of a plot twist that the magisters didn't actually make it to the Black City because it just kinda devalues the whole story up to this point. In Origins, the mystery was "did they really do what the chantry says they did?" In DA2, that mystery was sort of answered, but the new mystery was Cory's assertion that the Golden City was empty and black on the inside when they arrived. In Inquisition they sort of leave the questions of the Black City to the side and instead focus more on red lyrium and the elven gods, introducing new mysteries. Going back and contradicting their premise to such a degree, however, wouldn't be very satisfying from a storytelling perspective. They've already complicated the premise with Cory's revelations, as well as the suggestion that the blight predates the assault on the Golden City.
Quick quote followup:
Solas: "Unfortunately, using blood magic seems to make it more difficult to enter the fade."
Suggestive, but admittedly not definitive. Not enough to entirely rule out tremendous blood magic being able to pull it off, though the thought that (using blood magic) it would somehow be easier to enter the Fade in body than in spirit feels distinctly counter-intuitive.
I don't disagree that there would be something a bit unsatisfying in a double fake-out though, if that's what it is. Still, until we find a way to fit pieces together that support an actual Fade trip, opening a blood ritual path to the physical City seems the more likely possibility to me. It also might add another dimension to the "betrayal" Cole picks up on in Corypheus' thoughts regarding the City: not simply that it was blackened and empty, but also in the physical world, counter to what he was promised.

I like Solas' body type the most out of all the male body types in the game.
Also: Please, please let this put an end to all the 'OMG Solas was coerced into the romance and never wanted it.'I posted about this in the Cullen thread, but I'm guessing it's possible some people might be interested in this exploit/bug I encountered. I'm not 100% sure if it's repeatable, but I was able to romance both Cullen and Solas fully until the end of the game- intact. I didn't do it intentionally, it just sort of happened and I rolled with it until the end out of curiosity. Here's how it happened:
My Lavellan kissed Solas in the Fade and then immediately after when she woke up, she agreed with Solas that it was best to remain friends by hitting the broken heart icon. Despite this, Solas acknowledged the kiss after his personal quest on the balcony. I thought, "Oh well why the hell not?", and had my Lavellan kiss him after he brought it up again. The romance flag didn't actually lock her into it, however, and Solas will continue to call her Lethallan and Friend; neither will Sera, Vivienne, or the gossipers acknowledge their romance. I was then free to pursue the Cullen romance, because I assumed what happened must have been a fluke. I just headcanoned that they decided it couldn't work out and it was some time later (after Cullen's personal quest, Perseverance, in fact) that I initiated the Cullen romance. Cullen's romance will lock in, and be acknowledged in his dialogue and outside gossip.
At the Winter Palace, Lavellan can request a dance from both Cullen and Solas, but it will be Cullen who will pursue her on the balcony to dance.
The end, after the Temple of Mythal, was when things became interesting. Solas's romance scene does trigger and my Lavellan had the choice to remove her vallaslin (I decided to keep it so things wouldn't get too bizarre). Solas's tarot card actually changed, too, despite his romance not being the active one. The end scenes play out exactly as if she's romancing Cullen and Solas. Here are some screenshots:

Same. There's something aesthetically pleasing about it. Not too muscular, not too thin. He's just the right size.
