Proudish Dalish.  Her clan was not as isolated as many, so she was raised with more open-minded ideals.  The truth is more important than tradition, taking care of those you care about top priority, but not at any cost.  She does believe, however, that there is a Maker, but that it isn't exactly the Chantry's Maker.    They do dance naked in the moonlight, however.  Just to be clear.

"Here lies the abyss, well of all souls. From these emerald waters doth life spring anew." Maric muses, (Page 222.) He goes on to explain its place in the Chant to Fiona, who after all grew up in an Alienage.

"Oh. It's where Andraste goes to speak to the Maker for the first time. It's where she convinces him to forgive mankind. It was supposed to be this beautiful temple deep under the earth surrounded by emerald waters. I guess I always imagined it looked like this."

The water glows and is covered in a mist. It's all rather creepy, sad, but safe at the same time. They hear a strange murmuring. The water moves in patterns and responds to them as they talk. Odd shadows move beneath the water, almost like fish, but I doubt it. The sulfuric acid seems to be wearing away at the statues and rocks, damaging it, but it seems to me like it was the outskirts of a temple.

Y'know. The emerald waters that surround a Temple. Of the Maker, or of the Elvhen Creators?

The implications that Andraste first visited the Maker underground in a temple surrounded by something very similar to the Well of Mythal just staggers me.

I have nothing that would explain this.  I've been working under the assumption that the Well of Souls was a metaphorical reference to the fade, where souls are "washed" of self and memory and rerouted in the cycle of reincarnation that seems to underlie mortal existence.  It makes sense as the place where Andraste met the "Maker", if you're on board with the idea that Solas was manipulating Andraste's dreams to convince her to willingly take in the spirit of Mythal.  

 

This actual lake is some crazy stuff, though.  Like... the fetal eye of the Stone, or something completely bizarre...

1. What is your Lavellan's name?

Levana. I did not pay attention to the last name, and when I saw it I pronounced it LA-vell-AN, more emphasis on the final syllable, so her name rolls off the tongue better in my head. Then everyone in-game pronounced it LA-vellan, so I just sort of headcanon it as an ongoing "UGH, SHEMLEN" thing.

2. What is your Lavellan's class?

Mage, for once. I usually play rogues. I had her specialize as a rift mage because it just made sense for her, given she's got the Anchor and all. However, if we had had the options we had in previous games, she likely would have been a spirit healer. You win some, you lose some.

 

3. Which god's vallaslin does your Lavellan use?

Dirthamen. I chose it before I knew what god it was for, primarily because I just really, really liked the design. Now that I know it's Dirthamen's, however, it just seems even more fitting from the standpoint of her being the Keeper's First.

 

4. How old is your Lavellan?

Honestly hadn't thought about it. Mid-late twenties maybe. That's just how old her face ended up looking, and I chose the British voice, which sounds young to me.

5. Did you intend to romance Solas when you started the game?

Not really. I had no one scoped out for romancing - I tend to avoid everything about a game and decide on a romance in my first playthroughs. I began as a Vashoth, ended up making an elf, and just sorta fell in love with Solas, haha. ELVEN GLORY

 

6. What is your Lavellan's relationship with her clan?

She was very close to them, and misses them horribly. In my headcanon she was born in a different clan, and sent to clan Lavellan as a child to be their First, since the Dalish do that. She has a brother who she had to leave behind.

7. What are your Lavellan's religious views?

She was originally very... Dalish, haha. But time changed that - after all the **** she'd seen and been through, she had a hard time finding faith in the Creators, and it was just crushing. Eventually she just lost faith entirely, not so much in the fact that they exist, but she lost faith in what they were meant to represent. She doesn't trust any Dalish stories anymore, which was very upsetting for her.

8. Did your Lavellan drink from the Well?

After much deliberation, no. This was at the point where her faith in her gods had very much dwindled, so she wasn't sure she could trust the Well simply on principle. That, and the idea of being bound to a god was very unsettling. She didn't exactly trust Morrigan, either, but eventually she conceded - interestingly enough, more because of Cole than anything. That line about how there would be too many voices and she wouldn't want them was too ominous. So, her heritage or not, she had to let that one go.

9. Did your Lavellan have Solas remove the vallaslin and why/why not?

Yes. She was tired of everything she used to believe being wrong, and she trusted him in this. It was anxiety-inducing and discomforting because they'd been a part of her for a long time, and she had been so proud of them, but with new knowledge comes new revelations, and she realized that she had already stopped having faith in the gods - there wasn't much point in honouring them on her face. Some part of her doesn't think she's Dalish anymore, but that is not a thought that comes with pride. It is, in fact, mostly heartbreaking.

10. What response did you choose after Solas broke up with you?

Tears. Tears everywhere. She was too tired of all the hits she'd been taking up to that point to even have the energy to get angry.

11. How is your Lavellan taking Solas being gone and how are you taking it?

Not very well. She's plagued by two possibilities: One, that he truly did love her but still wouldn't tell her why he left her, and gave no explanation for his disappearance, not even a goodbye; or two, that he was lying all along and didn't really care the way she thought he did and he was just a snake from the start. Both possibilities are terrible and hurt a lot. As post-breakup banter with Cole says, she thinks it's because of her.

As for me, it was phenomenal storytelling, but I am also mad because dammit she deserves better! I WANT A HAPPY ENDING FOR ONCE. None of my Dragon Age characters thus far have gotten one. (My Warden sacrificed themself and while my Hawke was still able to stay with Anders, I still think they got shafted big time because oh hello boyfriend-gone-abomination and acts of terrorism!)

 

12. What would you give for a Wolf Hunt DLC?
My first born child, probably, which is saying something because I hate kids and don't want them ever.

Flipping through the pages... I liked that people were making theories with satan because Thedas pulls alot of its influence from western history.  I was raised Catholic so I was excited that it was relevant. Was disappointed when it stopped because person was upset for comparing Solas to the prince of darkness. Even villians have lessons and dismissing them as pure evil makes you appear to not want to understand their motives other than knowing they want to watch the world burn.

It's curious as to what an Alammari teenager would be doing in the Deep Roads, in a cavern a ways off from Ortan Thaig.

I get the feeling the lake only became sulfuric later on, as the sulfur seems to be damaging the statues. Probably Gaider thumbing his nose at us years in advance. Could be Paragons, could be Creators, could be Maker, could be Forbidden Ones, could be the creepy fat statue in Merrill's Pride Demon cave, etcetera, etcetera.

Anyone with more experience with sulfur and science care to educate me? 

It's also relatively close to a dragon location.

I really don't get what's with all the dragons living down in the Deep Roads. Most of your food supply is tainted, and you can't spread your wings that much.

I'm still catching up, but yes. That does make a certain amount of sense. It would explain the thing that's been driving me nuts for years.

If the Seven Magisters broke into the Fade, why are they wandering the Deep Roads? Neither Corypheus nor the Architect appear compelled by the Calling.

Now, I've got a lore-thing to throw at you people. (My computer's acting nuts, but I'm going to try to fix my math error in the timeline and then keep going. Hopefully it was just the one trip-up, as multiple ones are infuriatingly difficult to correct.)

There's a scene where an upset and guilty Duncan runs off from the other Wardens in the Deep Roads, and Maric and Fiona go after him.

Dirthamen.Her thirst for knowledge and her notoriously secretive nature makes that particular vallaslin rather fitting.

Not in this playthrough,she was supposed to romance Cullen.But after learning more about Solas,there's no one else for her.According to the headcanons I have for her at least,funny thing is that her clan associated her with more often with Fen'harel than Dirthamen.

6. What is your Lavellan's relationship with her clan?

Laurelin is solitary,she cares deeply for her clan but she just doesn't really fit in.She's rather cunning and tends to favour morally ambiguous choices by Dalish standards because she's a thinker and likes to question.Her clanmates respect her at this point but she had to struggle to earn that.However she's very close with the Keeper whom she considers a mother figure.

She is more spiritual than religious.She believes that they exist however but as expected, her views about the elven pantheon are more controversial.She would often point out that they sound more like bickering mortals rather than gods,in the Dalish tales and is questioning the lore more often than not.Laurelin has her own vision of what the gods are or what they should be.

Haven't reached that point yet,but she certainly will!Knowledge is knowledge no matter the price.Particularly if she can improve the life of her people with it.

Yes. I expect her by this point to want nothing to do with the pantheon.She loves the Dalish despite their faults,but refuses to be associated in such manner with the "elven gods"after the temple of mythal.

She'll probably choose a less emotional response initially.Laurelin's the type who keeps her sadness/pain to herself.She will certainly question him why he's doing it, even though deep down she knows that there's more to him than he let's on.

Laurelin is devastated,she did love him in her way and for the first time she found someone to whom she felt a strong spirituality connection.She didn't just loose her lover but also her friend and mentor.However it's also a moment of revelation as well and despite realising that he indeed "lied" to her as she suspected ,she feels drawn to him and wants to find him because she knows he probably had a serious reason for all this...Plus curiosity.

I was displeased with him leaving,mainly because he is my favourite character and l had a permanent spot for him in my party.I rarely keep playing post epilogue for that reason .

Mage.  Forever and always a mage.  I did play Rift Mage in my first PT.  But Knight Enchanter is my spec in my canon PT.

June.  I picked it because of how it looked.  No deeper meaning beyond "it's pretty". 

 

4. How old is your Lavellan?

She looks very youthful.  But I consider her 28-32. (Don't kill me, I'm not saying 28-32 isn't youthful!  I just mean she could pass for a 19 year old) 

 

5. Did you intend to romance Solas when you started the game?

Yes and no.  I went into the game with an open mind for the romance.  I suspected I would choose Solas though because he was race gated to elves only. 

 

6. What is your Lavellan's relationship with her clan?

I'm not usually someone who thinks up very much back story.  I think what I said to Josie when she asked, was that she liked to explore in the forest on her own a lot.  And that it was time she made a name for herself.  Giving it some thought I am gonna say that means she loves her clan but she's not afraid to go on her own. 

 

7. What are your Lavellan's religious views?

Judging by my last answer I think my Lavellan is a terrible First.  Woops.  She's not devout, but she does her best to honor the Dalish's beliefs.  Being in the Inquisition has changed her considerably.  She's not an Andrastian, but she does heavily question what she was raised to believe. 

 

8. Did your Lavellan drink from the Well?

In my first PT she did not.  I'm not quite at this point in my canon PT.  I am very torn on what I will choose this time.  I am probably an idiot, but I do in fact trust Morrigan.  But Kieran makes me feel so terribly guilty, letting her drink from the Well.  I am curious what the consequences can be for a Lavellan that does drink, but terrified at the same time.  It may come down to a coin toss.

 

9. Did your Lavellan have Solas remove the vallaslin and why/why not?

First PT: yep.  I am fairly certain I am going to make the same decision this time for my canon PT.  Honestly, because of what it represents, no matter if the Dalish use it to honor the Creators.  I also take removing it as symbolic of Lavellan being reborn into a new life, that she has chosen for herself. And because the scene is really pretty.

 

10. What response did you choose after Solas broke up with you?

I chose the weepy, baby, cry face response.  Because honestly I was so heartbroken I was weepy, crying, baby.

Well considering that I rushed right through to the end of the game afterwards... eh I just couldn't handle life anymore at that moment.  Crushed doesn't begin to describe it.  I think Lavellan is handling it better than I did.  She's focusing on her duties as Inquisitor and acting like everything is ok.  Luckily she still has most of her friends with her when she let's the surface crack.

Athanaea Lavellan: Ath-An-Ay-Ah. It's clear Weekes likes the letter Æ and I am all on board for that. Athanasia (Greek for undying, so, you know, irony) was the inspiration but it felt like it had one syllable too many.
2. What is your Lavellan's class?
Knight Enchanter. Come for the Elven heritage; stay to become a one woman dragon killer.
3. Which god's vallaslin does your Lavellan use?
Dirthamen, with a complicated headcanon backstory reason rich in parallelism. Also she's more drawn to knowledge than she likes to believe. That, and she understands the value of secrets.
4. How old is your Lavellan?
32. Early thirties was always the idea and I like numbers that are divisible by three but hate ones that are divisible by 11, one's divisible by 4 are okay.
5. Did you intend to romance Solas when you started the game?
I wasn't planning to romance anyone but once Solas pulled Lavellan out of that awkward Chantry singing after Haven to tell her that the orb is Elven and they're both going to have to be clever about hiding the truth I was swayed as he showed two opinions that I can completely agree with: being in the presence of the outwardly and vocally devout is uncomfortable and that efforts should be made so that the masses do not know the truth. So yeah, alright Ianto Jones, you've convinced me. Full steam ahead on the S.S. Solasmance.
6. What is your Lavellan's relationship with her clan?
Did we ever figure out if the Dalish actually have last names or if they just carry the names of their clans? Either way I imagine the Keeper of clan Lavellan is Athanaea's second cousin. Also that Athanaea doesn't actually like her that much for some vague reason but doesn't complain about it. In her more immediate family, she's close to both her parents but is exceedingly close to her younger (by 3 years) sister who she accidentally set on fire when she discovered her magic and with it made the revelation of how much she loves her. Everyone else in her clan she remembers their names and some extent of their personalities but can't defeat her own introversion. She wants to go home once all the Corypheus thing is taken care of but as time goes on that seems like less and less of a possibility (Not that they're dead, just that the connection between power and responsibility is a undefeatably irritating one).
7. What are your Lavellan's religious views?
You know how Catholics, even if they turn away from faith, carry with them the unshakeable influence of the Church upon their life in one way or another? Athanaea's something like that. Even if her believe in the Creators wavers, which I imagine Solas and future DLC will do a damn good job of making happen, there's still the undeniable fact that she is a Dalish elf and she can't remove herself from the religious part of that culture without abandoning the whole thing.

So... I didn't actually bring Solas with me to the Well. Somehow the thought didn't cross my mind to bring him. So no warning from him, no spat between him and Morrigan, no one providing a decent argument why the Inquisitor shouldn't sip from that font of knowledge. Also Dorian seemed really happy with the revelations at the Well.The character reason was Athanaea responding to Morrigan telling her she shouldn't by asserting herself as a Dalish and declaring that she was qualified to do it.
9. Did your Lavellan have Solas remove the vallaslin and why/why not?
Nope. The Dalish can't get over the slavery if they hold up a lasting stigma toward the facial tattoos. They're re-appropriating it. Athanaea is not a terribly honest person. She can live with the lie of the vallaslin's purpose since it gives pride to the Dalish and herself.

I don't actually remember. Let's go with "You become responsible, forever, for what you have tamed," she yelled as he walked away. She didn't know why she said it, and she wasn't sure if it made her feel better or worse. She hoped it made Solas feel worse. And he wasn't sure why it did.
11. How is your Lavellan taking Solas being gone and how are you taking it?
Athanaea Lavellan is a grown woman and she can deal with the fact that someone doesn't want to be with her. She'll just do something to go forward. Maybe go talk to someone who will make them feel better. And then Athanaea realized that Solas was her only friend in the Inquisition. There were enough people that were nice to her but no one other than him she actually wanted to spend time around. She could have been friends with Leliana. Even since Haven they were so close to forming a friendship through sharing their melancholy and through the communion of spies but Athanaea knows that she can't get away with having the Divine be her shoulder to cry on. Girl's gonna have it rough.

 

Me though, I'm dandy. Haven't had an excuse to idly write this much fanfiction in a damn long time. What? Why am I supposed to be sad? A fictional character and another fictional character broke up. I can detach myself from my player character, why can't you?

These are good. Kudos to the original poster. I have hard time controlling flycam that I stopped trying.

He looks like a kicked puppy, the way he just walks towards her like he knows what he did was bad and he feels so sorry. 

 

I have notice that his face and even his walk is fairly wolfish. Then the end scene just solidified it for me. Just...damn. Wolf with his tail between his legs.

But kicking the puppy gave him powers!! 

 

Eh. The only thing canine resemblance was him dramatically arching back but he was carrying mythal's body. Still looking elfy to me.

Not so much in the epilogue scene, and it is usually quite subtle, but it comes out when he's angry.

Complicated. I RP her as someone who DOES believe that Dalish gods exist, but after she realizes how flawed Dalish lore is, she becomes much more receptive to the idea of them possibly not being "gods".

Hey guys! So I'm glad so many people liked and responded to my questionnaire. I actually started giving all the responders likes...now I think I'm going to run out if I keep it up oh well!

Nimue (Nimue was merlin's lover with Student and Master lover trope in mind.)

Mage (Lightning because it's one of the more controlled and precise primals and necromancer because KE is too overpowered)

Mythal Minor. (no reason behind it other than for looks)

21-24

Old enough that she is viewed as responsible, young enough to have the appearance of a child.

 

5. Did you intend to romance Solas when you started the game?

Yes. To take advantage of him. If not for lore, I would have picked Cullen.

Due to the interests of lore, I assumed getting into his pants would reveal secrets. And just as the developers claiming race gated was super story reason, it was true. 

 

6. What is your Lavellan's relationship with her clan?

Very well, loves her clan.

But prefers the solitude of the forests and exploring elven ruins in awe. If she were to become a keeper, she would be a good keeper of elven lore and knowledge but wouldn't make an incredible leader. The clan is progressive enough to wear closed-toe shoes.

 

7. What are your Lavellan's religious views?

The elven patheon.

She has a grasp in history so she seeks lessons that could be learned about the elven gods. She views the faith as metaphorical rather than actual events. When Josephine suggested that the clan would benefit from being connected to the Herald of Andraste,  Lavellan wanted to make it clear that its best to stay modest to stave away pride. She has seen some shitty elven clans.

 

8. Did your Lavellan drink from the Well?

Yes. When Solas warned that Morrigan was like a glutton staring at the well like a feast.. I'm sorry to disappoint but I'm also a glutton that is staring at a banquet. Solas should be grateful that the glutton who got it was the  glutton he knows.

Yes. She was in love and wanted to make him happy. Walk around to see what it was like being bare-faced again. Think of it this way, if she want to take it again, she can just come back to the clan to get a new one. Different design or not. Still after the break up, it was REALLY tempting to get the tattoo back in retaliation. 

 

10. What response did you choose after Solas broke up with you?

Sad: Everyone makes mistakes.

 

It was tempting to go with angry though, to reduce the pain of rejection. 

 

11. How is your Lavellan taking Solas being gone and how are you taking it?

Sad but expected he finally left her. Reflecting on the times he's been hesitate on her advances. 

 

As a player, I'm sad my best support mage is gone. He also has the second best equipment next to myself. I have no doubt in my mind that we'll have to kill solas and would be bittersweet to have Lavellan to do the deed than the 4th protagonist. It is in her namesake: Nimue.

 

12. What would you give for a Wolf Hunt DLC?

Higher than average cost for a DLC. As much as a brand new game. $60.

Aeoryl (AY-oh-rill) ... It's a name I thought up as a kid and have used for various characters I've made for games. It sounded elfy to me.

2. What is your Lavellan's class?
Rift Mage. Mostly because I don't like playing KE or Necromancer.
 
3. Which god's vallaslin does your Lavellan use?
June. I didn't know whose it was when I picked it out. I like it because it looks like a crown or headdress.
 
4. How old is your Lavellan?
I hadn't thought about it. Probably mid to late 20s.

5. Did you intend to romance Solas when you started the game?
On my first playthrough, I didn't know any of the romance options or how they were gender or race gated. I was playing a male Inquisitor and did think that Solas was intriguing and attractive, but then I found out he was gated and then Dorian showed up, and that was that.
I did make this Lavellan character specifically to romance Solas for my second playthrough.
Part of me does envy those of you who romanced Solas first.
 
6. What is your Lavellan's relationship with her clan?
She considers her clan to be like family. I don't think of her as having a mother and father, but rather her teachers are her parents and her peers are her brothers and sisters. As First, she thinks of herself as the big sister of her clan. I imagine that some of her peers might think she can be obnoxious. She has good intentions, but in trying to prove herself, she can get herself into trouble.

7. What are your Lavellan's religious views?
I imagined my Lavellan to be ... agressively Dalish, for lack of a better description. She believed totally in the elven gods, and thought she didn't believe that much of the legends depicted true stories, she believed in the depictions of the gods as incredibly powerful, primal magic beings (something more than elven, but not spirits). She did fully believe in achieving a Dalish homeland where where the rightful glory of the elves could be restored.

She didn't get along with Solas at first because she didn't want her beliefs to be challenged. But her beliefs were challenged at nearly every turn and she was eventually forced to admit that in her ignorance she had wholeheartedly wanted to restore a fabrication of history rather than a reality of it.

Now she is conflicted between wanting to know the truth, and wanting to let it go and move forward. She still identifies herself as Dalish, but feels more like an outsider than before.

8. Did your Lavellan drink from the Well?
Yes. She wanted to be able to recognize the truth for a change and she figured that she couldn't expect to get what she wanted without taking some risks. If Mythal was real and good, then no worries. But if Mythal was real and evil, then perhaps it could be revealed through her. At that moment she was willing to risk everything for the knowledge in that pool.

9. Did your Lavellan have Solas remove the vallaslin and why/why not?
Yes. As much as the vallaslin was a part of her identity, hearing that they, too, were a lie, just made her angry. Part of her wanted to keep them and part of her wanted them gone. She didn't want Solas to always look at her and think, as he said, "you deserve more than those cruel marks represent." So she let him get rid of them.


10. What response did you choose after Solas broke up with you?
Angry. All kinds of angry. She felt like she gave up everything, she *trusted* him. She knew he had always been distant, and she knew that he might never come around, but she felt like he had made her incredibly vulnerable and then abandoned her. She was mad.

11. How is your Lavellan taking Solas being gone and how are you taking it?
She's still mad. But mostly feeling lost. She had kind of redirected her faith into him, and now he's gone, too. She'll probably do what she can to look for him. She cares about him and believes he cares about her. She doesn't know what kind of trouble he might be in, but she wants to find him and prove to him that he doesn't have to be alone.
 
12. What would you give for a Wolf Hunt DLC?
