Just quickly watched a youtube vid of the final battle and Q and Cory have a colour coded fight over the orb, Q wins and it just floats in her hand like it always does for Cory. Q throws it up into the rift, the orb drops down at Q's feet and Q kills Cory by sending him to the Fade in pieces.

Rocks fall and the orb breaks.

It possibly has internal cracks from the green V red magic fight and using it to close the rift destroys it completely.

I may be exaggerating a bit.  The romance is really worth it(though if I had the option I would romanced Cassandra).  It's got this sort of tragic fairy tale thing going on making it quite lovely and I'm hopeful that any ending they have will play out really well.  There are points - certainly - that I wish they would have made her less starry-eyed because it's kind of incongrous to this strong-willed character they built.  Like with any of the relationships in DA:O - you could needle them a bit or question them. Same thing with Anders or Fenris - especially Anders.  So I wish there was a bit of that with him.

I know the romance is worth it.  I've played through my Lavellan twice now and loved every heartbreaking second of his romance.  The thing I miss about DAO is the occassional cunning check you could get in dialouge which would let you point out the holes in a person's story.  I was one of the people who called 'ancient elf' long before the game was out and there was so much evidence in the game to support that I was surprised that Lavellan never even had the chance to suggest it.

*sighs over Lavellan's stupidity when it comes to Solas and also Cassandra's perfect checkbones*

I think if you say you could try to fix the orb, Solas says that wouldn't restore what was lost.

As in gone. I suspect that whatever energy was in it, it's not inside Quizzy, it's just lost, as he says. And that happened by the orb breaking, not the other way around.

Does that make sense?

Yea, he said fixing it wouldn't restore what had been lost. Wtb "what was lost?" follow-up question.

My theory is that Quizzy holds the foci for the first time since getting the anchor and the foci reacts to that.  So all the power from the foci went into Quizzy and the empty shell just breaks.

This was my first thought too, I haven't had a second one yet...

Could the orb possibly have been cracked from the power used and it just took a little time for it to split apart?

Does he? I don't remember him ever stating stating that It's super important just that. "Hey It's a ancient artifact, I'd like to study it /half truth" type of thing.

I don't think he said how important it was. Which is part of why I'm miffed he didn't tell her the truth.

If he had told her the truth of who he was and why the orb was important, she could have not dropped it/let giant rocks fall on it.

For those of you wondering, I finished my interpretation of Sylaise.

Question: Why didn't *Solas* pick up the damn orb after Inquisitor dropped it? If he was in your party when you went to fight Coryphefish, he could have totally picked it up before the temple started falling from the sky.

I can't believe I could not think of this song sooner! THIS IS literally the song for Solas breaking up with Lavellan...no joke...listen to the lyrics and imagine the scenes that correspond with them.

I feel like if this were THE Solas/Lavellan song, then my Lavellan would have been able to romance Cullen afterwards.

I only have my own interpretations to go by, especially since the orb breaks off screen.  But it wasn't glowing anymore when it landed, it looked inert, or however you want to call it.  I agree with it's breaking being because it was all used up.  I don't think it was dropping it, or something falling on it.  We see it when it hits the ground, it's still intact.

As for the orb breaking- I assumed it broke because it had damaged itself causing the breach. It was still insanely dangerous, perhaps even more so now that it was unstable. But I somewhat doubt Corypheus could have ever used it to power his ultimate plan, at least on its own. When he flooded it with power, it snapped.

Its also possible that the orb broke because Corypheus drew upon his own blighted power, and whatever lyrium inside the orb corrupted itself.

He never said it was important, but his impassioned dialogue about it gave me the impression that it was important to him.

You noticed! That's how I am going to tie all of the Pantheon together; by having bodysuits just like Solas :D

Thank you Mims and Patchwork!

I wish we could had romanced another LI after Solas broke up with the IQ, I know I would had chosen Cullen too...but of course that breakup had to take place so late in the game. I still even had the option of discussing my IQ's and Cullen's relationship...

Yeah, we didn't see it break, but I'm still miffed that she dropped it, she knew how important it was to him..

I always thought it was maybe too heavy, or really hot, and the Inquisitor couldn't hold onto it anymore without the power helping to levitate it. At least, that's what made sense in my mind. :P And whether she wanted to retrieve it or not, or call Solas over to it, rocks started to fall and things got shaky. And, well, broken orb.

Yeah, it being hot is something that I pondered too.

I think at some point, the ord DID become Blighted. When he's powering it up before the first sacrifice, the orb only glows green. But later, when he's assaulting Haven, it had red glowy sparks around it as well.

Yes, I think the orb was smashed by the rocks. He does tell her it's important in Haven, even if in a subtle way, and he mentions it again before getting to skyhold.

I don't think the inquisitor drops the orb on purpose, though. :/

I was thinking... wouldn't it be awesome if to tell Lavellan the truth he'd take her to the fade and show her his memories from Arlathan?

*daydreams*

...I just want to see young solas, ok?

Hmm what colour was it at the end when the Inquisitor was holding it? I'm sure it was green again... I haven't completed another PT since my first because...reasons.

I never thought she did it on purpose, just without thinking. But it could have been hot..or something. It needed to break of course...

I wonder if that's because when the Inquisitor touches it, he/she took a lot of its power.  Corypheus had no choice but to use his own powers, blight magic, to make up for what was lost.

And then of course using magic that was not of the orb's nature corrupted it.  Then like Mims suggested, it caused tiny invisible fractures within the orb.

hrmm

edit:  It did go back to green once the Inquisitor got control of it.
