On this note, we really need to start sucking up to Gareth David-Lloyd...

The first tweet that caught the BSN on fire was when he said a simple "yes" to my question of there being a romance/companionship of Cullen in DAI. Apparently, he had no clue Cullen had such a following, and when he announced he was voicing Cullen and that he had "raunchy" lines... Well, we all briefly fainted then furiously started tweeting him. Obviously, Cullen isn't a companion, so it just goes to show GE didn't really know what I was asking but then it turned out he WAS a LI so there's that. However, nowadays, he remains mum on the topic, I guess because of legal things, or that Bioware asked him not to say that stuff. But hey, Twitter is a great resource to use to get info So, tweet! And tweet hard, my pretties! Mwahahahaha!

I don't understand why people have to be like that. If you don't like someone's look just say "I don't like character X look". Some people can be aweful with their reasons. And when people complain they have no romance options. Sure you do, you just don't like them. Even if I hated every DAI characters looks, I'd still try the romance. I've been surprised in the past. I remember in ME2 when we found out Garrus was a romance. I was like why would anyone want to romance a dinosaur? But I tried it and he is my absolute favorite romance on ME. I love him.

Do you mean that "straight female options" thread in the Feedback forum? They are being pretty horrible to multiple possible LIs. Just more people that don't understand not everyone has the same ideals of beauty as they do. I gave up on that. lol 

 

If you folks are talking about that thread, well... I give up on posting there.  At least one poster is being downright toxic... I'm sure at least some of you know me as "that woman who started the 'Could We Please See More of the Lady Inquisitor' thread" so... yeah 'nough said on that one.  I don't see women being treated unfairly in the LI department--the few things I've seen, I've remarked on already but they aren't really horrible enough that I would go to make a thread or rant and rave in a thread about it.  Though I'd rather the straight male have been a companion, with bisexual advisors, I trust the writers and developers that that just didn't fit their story.

 

Also, I don't get the hate-on for the various characters.  No, I don't find Iron Bull or Blackwall all that attractive, but plenty of people do.  There's nothing wrong with Varric, and Solas is definitely not ugly either (he seems more appealing in some screenshots than others, but I can live with it however he looks--and my Inquisitor can live WITH him.  I hope.).

 

In any case, whether Solas is an LI or not, I think we're all prepared and ready to offer sympathy to whomever didn't get what they wanted, and congrats to everyone who did.

 

Edited to add:  And as another poster above remarked, it's not that the "OMG I DON'T HAVE OPTIONS" people actually lack options, but that they dislike the options available--and they could very well change their opinions after playing the game.

I doubt, with the trepidation our lovely thread-mates had about tweeting Mr. GDL, anyone will be trolling anyone.  Good point, but I think we'll be fine  We're pretty good about only subjecting our fellow Solassians to our Solas-related madness!

There are characters I like more than others, there are some that rub me the wrong way, and some I'm just not that interested in.  That said, I don't go criticizing them or calling them ugly or lame or whatever - if anything, I only critique the characters I do like (i.e. Cullen - love him, but some of his views deserve debating).  To insult a character's appearance/role in the game/LI status/whatever is just so grossly disrespectful not only to their fans, but to those amazing people who wrote them and designed their appearance and scripted them and acted them out.  Again, disliking a character for whatever reason is one thing, especially since some characters are supposed to be divisive - but not even giving them a chance, and making fun of them, is just so ugly and childish.  I don't ignore any poster on principle, but I will certainly not consider their opinion worth much when I see that sort of thing.

Well, I do recall in one video (when I was doing a little digging) that Gareth David-Lloyds dream casting would be to the historical Vlad the Impaler. Which is... well.. NOT the same but kinda sorta maybe?
(I realize what your original post was saying and I too am agitated by this. But I couldn't help but take this as an opportunity to bring that tidbit of information up!)

I like iron bull and he will be a permanant companion. But, one companion LI, although awesome and I'm happy for those who wanted him, would be surprising. I also think Cullen is looking intriguing, but he's an Npc, and although important it's not the same as a companion. With all this talk about deeper romances and bonding of the journey, I want to take part in that. I'm not saying I feel left out because my options I don't like. I'm saying right now there's only one companion option for het females.
With two slots left, there still hope, even if its not Solas, at least a more variety and it would be awesome if it was fair to all orientations.

I hope it isn't Blackwall. I don't want all my LI options to be warriors. If no Solas, I would be happy with Varric but not if he's straight. That wouldn't be fair. He needs to be BI. But still hoping for Solas, I want a mage dang it! for my female quizzy.

Vivienne counts as two love interests- you can romance her, or romance her wardrobe. August is going to be a long reveal of all the clothes you get when you Dressmance the finest collection of Orlesian couture in Thedas.

Exactly, and I highly doubt either of the remaining LIs will be gay, either.  Now, we don't know for sure if Viv will be an LI, but I have a very strong suspicion that she will be bi and race gated if she is, and that the other gated option had already been revealed.  Because I think (think!) that the main bi male has not been revealed yet... Because i highly doubt Iron 'race gated until literally a couple weeks ago' Bull was the main bi male romance.  Unless.... unless... ugh, I think I'm done speculating for one night.  My brain and heart cannot take it.  Let's just hope the devs take pity on us soon.

Yea it's going to be difficult telling who is race gated and who is not because honestly we do not really know anything about these new characters other than the information that these interviews gave us. We could use that sure, but they said race gated for story reasons so considering we do not know the story it is kind of hard to say, but I would be surprised if Solas is race gated (if he is a LI) although I did hear an interesting theory on him and dwarves because they cannot dream which is why I asked if anyone would think he would be race gated for certain reasons, but I don't know. I'm just ready for the last two LI to be revealed.

I don't know if he definitely is, but he certainly could be.

 

Some have suggested that he might be gated against other elves, since he doesn't want to be seen as "just an elf."  It COULD happen but I don't think it's terribly likely since, even though he's not all about the elves, we also have no information to suggest he is anti-elf.  Though, I suspect if you turn out to be a racist jerk, Solas will not have time for you.

 

Solas's open-mindedness would suggest he's okay with anyone, and maybe even pansexual like Iron Bull, assuming he is an LI.

 

Another possibility is that he is race-gated against dwarves and possibly qunari, because dwarves do not dream and qunari claim they don't (we don't know whether this is true, as they DO have mages who presumably touch the Fade, and we know for sure that the Iron Bull has issues with demons).  Despite the Inquisitor's connection to the Fade, Solas may want someone with a greater understanding of dreams.  Or it may be because if he has a romance arc, it could tie into dreams or even be initiated during a dream (which would be kind of... interesting).  We don't know in what way the marked hand will influence the Inquisitor, so basically I'm uncertain.

 

In other words... no one really knows.

Same. I'm so confused. The only ones I really thought made sense were IB, for obvious reasons, and Varric, because so many people think he may only be into dwarves (I hope, if he is a LI, he isn't so severely race-gated as that, but we'll see).  Now I just have no idea.  Did anyone actually say that the remaining LIs were the gated ones? Though I suppose any of the remaining options could have some background issue that makes sense once you know them.

Honestly? I have no idea what to think anymore. The only race gated ones that made sense to me were Iron Bull (which I have obviously been proven otherwise on that) and Varric. I'm so confused. I hate not knowing :/

I still feel like one of the gated romances is Cullen.  It would kind of stink if he is, though, since he's the only straight female option, so far, but, he is also an adviser not a companion...I really have no idea.
