Am I the only one who gets Solas to approve actually almost everything ö.Ö (by accident)
That's the key. If I stated my real opinions, Solas would disapprove every 2-3 questions but I'm a cheater so I reload until I pick an opinion he approves of.

I'm befuddled by all the people talking about Solas disapproving all the time. Maybe they're elfing wrong? So I owe some thanks to Dirth Enansal over in The Black City Thread for bringing this up. http://dragonage.wik...ales:_Sacrifice http://dragonage.wik...reed_Are_Slaves http://dragonage.wik...Tales:_Invasion I've only started to look over them, but wow. Like.
So seven magisters are depicted. But so are Qunari. And someone is messing with the record of the picture. Two of the Seven in particular are messed with. Corypheus and the Architect, I would guess? Corypheus sounds like he's as close to being in charge of them as it got, what with the Conductor title. But we haven't met any other confirmed Magisters. Does this somehow tie into the Qunari kossith issue? Why is it called "Freed Are Slaves"? WHAT IS GOING ON HERE?
GAAAIDER! *shakes fist*

Wait, Mary Kirby is the one who writes that writes world lore, right?
Am I the only one who gets Solas to approve actually almost everything ö.Ö (by accident)
Nah, he likes my Inquisitors. I'm not even trying, I don't reload; he occasionally would be upset (won't let him kill mages, ally the wardens, make that guy tranquil, drink from the well, etc), but mostly he's one of the most pleasant to talk with and approves of most things. Kinda reminds me of fandom and Fenris... I hear a lot that you have to be careful and metagame the hell out of things to get Fenris to like you. I never had to. The only time I failed his romance was the one time I tried to rival him and sucked at getting him to hate Hawke. A pro-mage Hawke (as usual) even. It just comes down to different playstyles, that sort of thing.
Wait, Mary Kirby is the one who writes that writes world lore, right?
I believe it goes:
Gaider: Lord of Darkness and Despair, also main creative director behind THE Dragon Age Setting.
Weekes: Probably partnered with Gaider in being experts on elven lore.
Kirby: Wrote most of the Chant, apparently a lot of the Qunari stuff as well.
Jennifer Hepler: Responsible for most things dwarfy.
Other than that, I dunno.
Huh. Holding back the Darkness, right? I'm... gonna have to think about that. And leave this codex entry behind.
I know it ends with her creating the Moon. But... it could also be the Veil. Given how the rest of the gods were absent during this tale and Mythal was absent from the world (across the sea/ formed from the Earth's tears, whichever explanation you want/ buy into) prior to it... It's likely that this is the origin story of the Pantheon. When it is only Elgar'nan and Mythal. Everyone else comes later, post-Veil. Just because you're immortal doesn't mean you weren't born - some of them clearly later than others (Ghilal'nain for example).
I dunno. I think I'm gonna go get some Diet Coke, kill some dragons, and ruminate while spamming Leaping Shot during Fire Flask.
EDIT: HEY. Isn't it... permanently night in the Fade? Could someone please answer that question?
YES.
Spoiler
4 dots = Crossroads
Moon = Veil, and the fade beyond
Sun = Physical Realm
Water = The Void
In TME, Felassan seems to know *of* the crossroads and Eluvian, likely to have used them before, and knew of typical servant practices regarding maintaining the rooms and those in "stasis". But he didn't know exactly how the eluvians or the crossroads worked. If Halamshiral was one of the hearts of the Elvhen Empire, it could have been home to Operation: Initiate Crossroads. This knowledge may have been reserved to those creators in power.
The Moon, said to be "created by Mythal", or recorded as such as something created by the Elvehn, led by Mythal. If connection to the fade was reserved for the privileged few, held in place by the veil, the fade (and possibly other places) would have been everything "beyond the veil" for most others.
Water being the weakest reasoning, relying on traditional concepts IRL of the "underworld" being related to rivers/seas (e.g. egyptian/norse mythology).
<snip>
I am so happy we are coming to the same conclusions, albeit different routes. Moon = mythical symbol of "the veil". ![]()
Also regarding "The Black City" too - potentially existing only in potent, immortal Old-God memory within the fade - with Corypheus not understanding it, persistent in believing he visited the actual city of myth.
I've been waiting so long ;-;
Anyway, back to reading the backlog!
I thought about posting my summaries as I go but decided that it may make the discussion too... clinical? More of a flowing, to and fro thought process seems more friendly.

Getting him to like you is easy since you can just ask him questions. When it comes to decisions, that's when things get conflicting.

Elf Inquisitor: Tell me more about Corypheus.

Elf Inquisitor: Oh yeah! I forgot Varric already met Corypheus. Haha, thanks Solas! (:

Conscript Mages:
As a player who played mage in every dragon age game. While most mages are acceptable you have to consider the lowest denominator when you are managing them because they make poor decisions every time. If the mages in the circle can't handle their own members, how can I expect them to take care of themselves if freed? Also until they pick a new leader other than Fiona, I shall conscript them rather than view as equals. Because I hate Fiona.

Well of Sorrows
Solas: Don't let Morrigan drink from the well, she's like a glutton staring at a feast.
Elf Inquisitor: Well we can't have two gluttons drink from the well. You should drink it, Solas
Solas: No. Don't ask me again.
Elf Inquisitor: Well ok, but I'll drink it.
Later:
Solas: I told you not to drink from the well!
Elf Inquisitor: Didn't I say there were two gluttons in the room?
Etcetera, and so forth. Lots of disapproves. Lots of reloads.

Mike Laidlaw is THE Creative Director for the franchise, not Gaider. We have the former to thank for giving the OK to use the vallaslin chart ![]()
But in terms of elf lore you're right it's Gaider/Weekes.
So Yavana's comment about the days 'before the veil, when dragons ruled the skies'. Anyone else think that was just the Elvhen Gods flying around in their Scaleday suit? That, as Flemeth loves to joke, she is actually a dragon? Or did Elgar'nan lead a rebellion against the dragons and then took their form?
No because I think Yavana made it seem like there were too many dragons for this to be likely. And she was trying to wake up the dragons, which I don't think would be what Flemythal would want if they're the elven gods. I think it's more... dragons ruled the skies, elves ruled the lands, dwarves ruled the underground.

Yeah I just looked up Yavana myself. I'd forgotten the Great Dragons. ![]()
Morrigan had some talk with Shale about having to understand the soul of the creature to shapeshift into it. There's definitely something more going on with dragons. Talk of Qunari having dragon blood, Reavers in general, the punishments for 'assuming the form of the divine'. I'm picturing the Pantheon being Dreamer mages who used dragon blood and the Fade and everything they could get their hand on to game the system and become gods, Mistborn style.
Creative Director was the incorrect term. I meant to say I think he was the main guy behind the setting? That it's his baby a sliver more than it is the other writers' baby? I could have sworn I saw a post by him the year before Origins came out explaining what timeframe he started developing DA.
...Maker's breath, have I been a lurker of these forums for THAT long?
I've got memories, people! I've seen things you people wouldn't believe! (Unless, y'know, you've been lurking or, heavens forbid, posting even longer than that.

I'm leaning more towards "elven gods stole from ancient dragons to achieve godhood"

Yep, different playstyles. If he doesn't approve of something, I just roll with it. I like to see consequences, like when Lavellan made Erimond tranquil. Lots of disapproval across the board and upset mages on my War Table.
Haven
Heh, yup, I did get disapproval about the Dalish stuff. Also on blood magic. And I think maybe the spirit talk. Lavellan was open-minded, but dubious about some of the stuff he was saying to begin with. But that was a blip out of everything else in their conversations.
Questions about Corypheus
Considering most of the questions you can ask him gain approval, this isn't much.
Personal Quest
Didn't let him kill the mages, he predictably disapproved. Still got approval for helping him with his friend.
Mages
I'm a mage player myself, so I did full ally, which Solas approved of. I like Fiona, and I understand her reasoning, so eh.
Winter Palace:
My Lavellan didn't care much for the game. She had to kill Florianne after stopping her from killing Celene; since her personal aspirations for the elves seemed selfish when she knew the bad future begins with Celene's assassination. It was too big a risk. Simply letting someone be assassinated also didn't sit well with her. Getting Briala pardoned was the best she could do, and Solas approved of that.
Grey Wardens
Allied with the Wardens, got disapproval for this one.
Well of Sorrows
Lavellan drinks from the well, Solas disapproves...well, oh well.
In general he approved more than he disapproved, at least in my playthrough.

i've never reloaded to get approval from any of the companions. but i have one PT when i reload to get lowest possible approval from everyone and it's killing me.
as for Fiona - i'm unable to let her live and the outcome when she's the leader of mages... never, so i decided to skin a cat different way: i recruited templars and forced them to disband their order :3 surprisingly, Solas approved. tbh, it's f..n hard to get his disapproval - besides the Well of Sorrows thingy, but that's fixed in the next dialogue. unnerving!
So for those who have used the flycam.....

Theres no animation, otherwise they would show you the kiss. It's just two faces smashing against each other. Lip touching isn't included. That's why the scene shows them kissing from behind or something. The tongue has a texture but it has no rig. Resources could be better spent elsewhere. Maybe someday there will be kissing animation. Just not for another decade or two.

That makes super sense, I've thought about it but I had nothing to support it...
But if we look at it realistically... Mythal & the rest of the pantheon are not real gods, so I highly doubt Mythal could've created the real moon, plus! It would've affected sooo many things, it's not like "I created a massive rock and put it in the sky", it would've affected the tides. Imagine if we had no moon and somebody decided to put one, MAYHEM XD.
We should look into moon as a symbol, maybe it'd make sense in relation to the veil.
Unrelated - moon symbolizes femininity, sun - masculinity. I'm amused.
