I just heard that quote about 10 minutes ago. I got it while talking to one of the mages by the side of the road, a young elf. I didn't have Viv with me, so it's not related to your party. I was like, "Oh, Solas, honey, no."

I actually can agree with the sentiment, though, because all of my main characters have done things they didn't really want to do for ideals or to achieve goals, so I'm worried for him but can't really judge his possible future actions because my characters have done arguably terrible things, too, at times.

 

Interesting, I guess I just didn't talk to that elf on my other playthroughs. It just fit really well with what Viv said though. She told the guy there were other ways to accomplish goals than doing something so drastic, and then Solas responded to that.

 

From what I heard, people say KE is so over-powered that it was possible to kill a dragon solo. That was enough for me not to try it. I wasn't sure if I wanted necromancer or rift mage so I tested both and ended up with the former.

 

Both my first two playthroughs was as a KE, and I love it. The thing is yea you can solo a dragon.. it'll just take forever >< Basically it's just that with the barrier and being smart about what you are doing you can manage to take no damage at all. I personally really enjoy KE though, only reason I made a not mage this pt was so I can run around with both Dorian and Solas in my party. And take Vivianne out some as well, but mostly it was for Dorian and Solas

Oh my god, you guys. I got the vallaslin scene last night. Oh my god. 

 

After hearing about the break-up for the past few weeks... I didn't think it was going to be that intense. I was thinking I'd be fine, I knew what was going to happen.

 

But hearing Aithne say "Don't leave me, Solas. I love you." I lost it. I didn't think a game could make me sob like that. 

 

First she finds out that her clan was wrong about the vallaslin all along, and then the guy she loves leaves after the most wonderful kiss. She's absolutely broken; no more witticisms and strong Dalish woman. Aithne needs the blanket fort and hot cocoa and Varric. 

 

Goddamn Sera just laughs at her for losing her Vallaslin, and it's like great just when I needed comfort. I thought we were friends, Sera!

I thoroughly enjoyed it. This would be the part when you stab him just like you stab morrigan in the baby maker. You heard his plans, you just confirmed to him that he should have continued to trust no one. No one but spirits because they have simple wants. Think our love was real? So is this stab wound!

Yeah, I think it was the same mage that greets you when you get into Redcliffe, Sylas or something like that, I think. Interesting that Viv responds to the guy, too.

 

I did KE on my first playthrough and loved it. I basically was unkillable with the barrier regeneration. Tried necromancer on my 2nd playthrough and didn't really like it. I still plan to do rift mage with my next mage, but right now, KE is my favorite mage spec.

That's the best part of Solas, though!  I forget who conceived of him as another Player in game (had to be Sister Squish, right?) but that's exactly how he works.  That's how he's able to be the eternal thorn in the side of both Order and Chaos.  You can't kill the guy.   He has so much control over his fade shadow presence (his "spirit" or "soul") that it's capable of acting as an independent self: a separate entity interacting with Thedas through his physical body- just like we work through Lavellan.  You can kill Dirthamen as many times as you want- the guy is just going to reload and come back.  The game isn't over until Falon'Din decides to throw down the controller and walk away.  

 

So no dead Solas.  Not now.  Not ever.   Not unless you somehow destroy Falon'Din as well.

Crap.  I hadn't factored in the Moon.  Could be the Earth/Sun's first attempted creation, its surface literally burned to ashes by the Sun.  Or if we're working from a maybe-Elgar'nan-isn't-elven standpoint, could be the empty shell of Mythal's first Child.  The two aren't even necessarily contradictory: maybe the first Child hatches, lives on the surface of his own empty egg, then the jealousy, the epic fight, the Sun gets tossed into the Void, and Mythal / Elgar'nan raise the veil and start again from scratch with Thedas.

 

Hmm.  Possible, but relies on far too many assumptions.  There are at least a dozen equally plausible possibilities given the information we have, and that one might be too deep in tin-foil-hat territory even for me.  =w=

 

I think I missed out things, eggs? Isn't Mythal an elf? She can't lay eggs o_o

Torchwood, given as he's talking about Rifts.  And was clearly about to say 'Jack' at one point.  I think it's probably from one of the post season three radio plays.

 

Torchwood is pretty decent for two seasons if you like a show that doesn't take itself seriously at all. Then it started taking itself too seriously and got dumb.

I think the ability to shapeshift into a dragon is something all the elven pantheon have, no?

I base this assumption on status of the gods (I remember not only Mythal having a statue with dragon wings)..

The rift in Cardiff is a pretty big plot point.  And Torchwood tended to have the team killing stuff.

For Josephine, I think she has to exhaust all of her other opening dialogue/you have to finish her personal quest. For the banter, maybe try wandering around for a bit with all three of them in your party? Cassandra actually kept asking Solas about my Inquisitor's vallaslin even after he said it was done in a private moment and she said she shouldn't have asked... >_> I don't know why that happened, but it was really awkward.

It's Ianto Jones from Torchwood, played by Gareth David-Lloyd, Solas's voice actor. So... in a way, it is Solas?

I wonder if Solas made the War Table.  It was created from the Peace Tree that was cut down before Skyhold's foundations were laid.  Which is more to suggest that Skyhold was originally some sort of rebel fortress or a rebellion magical science project (to create the veil?) or both.  The Peace Tree was a symbol of peace between two factions, possibly the Creators and the Forgotten Ones? 

 

I also feel like there must be a connection between Skyhold and Emprise du Lion.  Solas makes little comments about there being few spirits in Emprise (possibly due to close proximity to the veil creation at Skyhold?), and that it reminds him of Skyhold.  There's also Dalish legends connecting the Emprise hot springs with the story of Elgar'nan overthrowing his father the Sun.  It's believed to be the location where Elgar'nan buried the Sun (hence the hot springs), and that's why it's considered sacred grounds to the Dalish.  Perhaps the truth to the legend is that there was a war, and when Mythal intervened as in the story, they struck a truce, and the Peace Tree was placed in the area.  Until a later time when Mythal was killed, and war started up again.

 

It's amazing that the War Table could have survived for all those thousands of years when most of Skyhold was destroyed and rebuilt several times.  I suppose someone might have stored it down in the undercroft.

This is super good stuff.  Skyhold's place in the larger picture represents a huge chunk of missing theory in my head, and you have a much better handle on the lore here than I do.  How did you piece together the Peace Tree / War Table connection?  And the hot springs-Dalish connection.  Is that direct codex, or inference?
