Where does the 'Solas was the founder of the Qun' come from? Doesn't Solas hate the Qun? And isn't attributing everything in DA lore to one guy going a bit overboard?
(not bashing theories. Just... offering a different voice.)

DSFLKDLKFJDKJF THIIIIISSSSSSS.
And what is Varric? Child of the stone. Much of Solas' and Varric's disagreements stem from the fact that Varric presses for his individuality FROM his essence. What is he most afraid of? Becoming his parents. The Stone. And if the stone is Lyrium.. HAH! Well that's just poetic.
What is his problem with Varric's insistence that Cole, a Spirit, become more human? It would change the essence of what he is.
What is Abelas' name? Sorrow. It's not Frank. It's the essence of what he is and now feels.
Same goes with Solas. Pride. The essence of what he is and now fears.
Being called Vhenan? My heart? That's the essence of what you are to your lover.
Lethallin? Kinsman. Even if not true, it's the essence of your relationship and closeness.
The Qunlat functions similarly - a woman is no longer a woman if she's a warrior. But she is. But she isn't because she's a warrior. Her essence is now her as a warrior, not her as a woman.
But I like the name Frank!
He should totally change his name to Frank.

I second this I'm super confused.
And you know I loveeeeeeeeeeeeeeee lore.
.
Oh, I think he HATES the Qun. In the same way he HATES what the Dalish did to themselves and their ignorance.
I made parallels to the Qunlat (or Qunari language) to Elven language/ naming practices.
I don't think he MADE the Qun - it was likely like Dalish legend and even the Chant - ideas, concepts, and people who warped over time to suit the direction of the society that adopted it.
I can see your point. But I just think this is attributing too much to one character. For me, things get less interesting if you just say 'oh, Fen'Harel did it'.

Yep. Being Dumat and luring the magisters into the Black City? Solas. Causing the downfall of the elves? Solas. Andraste's rebellion? Solas was behind this one as well. And he also founded the Qun. Now, did I miss anything else?
Edit: oh, he's also Falon'Din and Dirthamen. And Felassan.
(I don't want to bash theories, but this is starting to look a bit... too much) ![]()
*hugs everyone* I am so sad T_T I can never give up on Solas.. just like I could not and still haven't with Thane.. I just.. for some reason I find Solas even more... my type of guy.. Idk he is different I oftenly like people who are.. different
Please someone.. hug me.. I need a hug
Lavellan: * cries out for Solas and lays down on a couch that is placed in his room. * I need you.. I miss you.. I love you.. and I always will... I promise..

Solas is also Hawke and Anders! At the same time! ![]()
Yeah. There's a very distinct difference between the Qun as it was originally written, and the Qun of modern Qunari. Same thing with the Chant and the modern Chantry. They were attempts at writing up a set of rules to create a social system that would stabilize the social forces of Order and Chaos, but as time passes, the organizations themselves begin to twist from their original... purpose....
Oh my god. *starts laughing hysterically*
It's kind of the same thing, just on a different scale. Organizations are spirits, becoming demons. Their Purpose is being twisted.
GAIDER.

Reposting from the edit I made:
The reasons I drew the language parallels and naming structure is when you consider that the Qunari were slaves to the ancient Elvenhan empire. Most languages have a clue in their structure to their people's migratory patterns and periods of subjugation to another culture.
That's due to a CIVILIZATION. Not an individual. The language parallels exist in the same way that Spanish is similar to Italian or any other romance language.
Were the qunari slaves of the elves?
I actually thought Solas looked strikingly like the Cumberbatch, the only big difference being their nose. And Solas can walk straight out of a Rift and do that to me WHENEVER.
...I leave for a day and everyone's talking about Cumberbatch. I MISS EVERYTHING
That makes my head hurt. YOU make my head hurt!By the way, what color is the sky?
We should keep a list of all the things Solas apparently is.
Founder of the Qun
Shartan
The Maker
Falon'Din & Dirthamen
Dumat

Disclaimer: Don't mean to bash any of those theories. It's just a bit much right now ^^

I think Solas being at the center of it all makes perfect sense. He's an eternal being, the fixed constant that remains as different races & cultures rise and fall over time. He keeps trying to fix things with every new world state that develops and while he gets a little closer to restoring balance each time, it's never enough & he keeps failing. So that's why all the different cultures have such similar parallels - they all stem from the same initial catastrophic historical event and have defined themselves by how they reacted to that trauma.

I'm inclined to agree. It's theories that attribute too much to Solas that tend to lose me. I don't think they'd make so much of the universe revolve around a character we technically just met. Heck, revolving it around Flemeth would have made more sense from a writing standpoint and would throw people off much less. She's been a mysterious constant in the DA universe from the start.
Pre-ME3 flashbacks....too strong....so many brilliant theories....that probably are much better than the actual intended story..... ![]()

Nooo, not the Maker. The Andrastean Maker is... well, mostly Mythal. But also partially the Sun.
Solas is Fen'Harel, the Dread Wolf, Dirthamen-Falon'Din, Dumat, and the "voice" in the dreams of Andraste, Corypheus, and Kosslun.
You're right. He's kind of a Big Deal. But that seems to be how the DA universe has been set up.
Reposting the Freed Are Slaves codex entry:
An ancient mosaic carved by a dwarven master worksman, featured seven entities overlooking a procession of Qunari slaves, bound, and in chains.
Hundreds of years later, another craftsman under the direction of a Tevinter magister alters the original, carving down the seven entities to replaces them with a human tevinter magister as the qunari's slaves' master and the addition of treasure/ loot. The Qunari slaves are unaltered. The seven entities could not have been dwarven. There would not have been enough gold to carve down to place a HUMAN. A group of taller beings, however, definitely would work. The only other group of people tall enough to fit that bill would be the elves.
My take on that (I hadn't seen this codex until just now) is that the seven are the Magisters.

I hope I don't sound like I'm being rude about the theories. I just tend to believe that the simplest answer is usually the correct one.
Just randomly stopping by so I can introduce Clarissa Lavellan, a solasmancer :3
(worth noting I rarely ever play females, but Solas's romance, plus how his personality can mesh with my planned Lavellan, it's perfect cjasijqw)

Oh, I think he HATES the Qun. In the same way he HATES what the Dalish did to themselves and their ignorance.
Oh, FAR WORSE.
I don't think he HATES the Dalish, though. He doesn't approve of the Dalish, but he can acknowledge some of their virtues ("For all I've said about the Dalish, I admire that indomitable spirit"), ease up on them if a Lavellan who impresses him also stands by them (Solas: "That the Dalish could raise someone with a spirit like yours... perhaps I've misjudged them?" Lavellan *smiling* "I don't hold the Dalish up as perfect, but we have something worth honoring. A memory of the ancient ways." Solas "Ah, I see... *smiles* That must be it, then") and even admit they're at least trying to remember the old ways, even if he doesn't approve of their methods.
The Qun? He NEVER lets up on them. He sees absolutely no good in anything the Qunari do. In party banter between Solas and Iron Bull, Solas just rips into them and will not ease up no matter what the Iron Bull tries to say. Solas is a firm believer in freedom; especially freedom of thought. He hates the Qun because they not only conquer and subjugate other nations, and decide what their people can do, how they can live, what they can say and think, but worse; they condition people to blindly accept their enslavement and never dream of anything else. At least slaves in Tevinter or mages in Circles can fight for freedom or find comfort in their own thoughts, but he feels the Qunari take even that away.
Beautifully summed up in this exchange:

I really like the way her vallislin is the same colour as her lips. Wish I'd thought of that.
