Oh man, this theorycrafting.
If any of you have read the Foundation Trilogy, you know what we need? A Hari Seldon for Thedas. A psychohistory perspective of the aggregate, not just the actions of individual gods and heroes and rulers.
Because while I think Solas and other entities like Flemeth, the elven gods, the Old Gods, and even the Maker might be players of a Great Game whole orders of magnitude above the rest of the story, Sera's right too. Little things add up over time. The actions of little people cascade, and all those millions of little decisions that people make every day have momentum behind them too. The Chantry, the Inquisition, even the Qun...they could not exist without the people who make them up, regardless of how they originated or who started them.
Sorry if this is rambly and makes no sense. I got very little sleep.
Yeah, I agree completely. He may say he dislikes other things about other cultures. But he doesn't even hate Tevinter as much as he hates the Qun. Another really good quote:
[After Iron Bull lets the chargers die:]
Iron Bull: So, you going to let me have it, Solas? Or do I get to wait and wonder?
Solas: What do you mean?
Iron Bull: We've got the alliance with my people. Given how much you hate the Qun, I figured-
Solas: Am I to scold you? Berate you for your decisions?
Iron Bull: Hey, the charges died as heroes.
Solas: I never said otherwise. The truth is, Iron Bull, you are Qunari. I cannot be disappointed in your decisions. As a mindless, soulless drone, you could never make any.
Wow... that's such a stark difference to the convo that happens if the Chargers are saved. That's just crazy.

I must say, I found Solas's hatred of the Qun to be so intense. I would say it rivals, heck it's worse than Fenris with his feelings on magic. That always felt a bit like petty hate to me. But Solas on the Qun? Whoa there.
It really hit home when you take him IB's personal quest and he really lashes out at that elf (whose name I have completely forgotten. Gat? No, did I just make that up?) and is all 'you gave up one life of slavery for another' when he talks of how leaving Tevinter for the Qun was the best decision for him. So harsh to this guy he has only just met. I kept wanting my Inquisitor to turn round and be all 'CALM YO-SELF, SOLAS. THEDAS DOESN'T NEED ANOTHER ANDERS'
I do love hearing him get passionate about things though.
Ha, yeah. I never had Solas and the Iron Bull together in a party before, so Solas' passion against the Qun caught me by surprise.
If I was honest, though... my Lavellan secretly agreed with him on some level. While she's sure the elves live a better quality of life under the Qun than Tevinter, the elves have also lost so much history and tradition after a thousand years of slavery under Tevinter and another 700 being subjugated or displaced by the Chantry. If the Qunari were accepting of differences... but they aren't. The Qunari are so thorough about stripping away everything a person was before they followed the Qun, and are so controlling of every action, word and thought, that she feels the elves would lose everything they worked so hard to retain and regain over the centuries more quickly and thoroughly than they ever did under Tevinter and the Chantry. She had to remain diplomatic and neutral for the mission, but she was secretly glad Solas said it so she wouldn't have to. (She even tried to convince Elfy Qun to join the Inquisition afterwards, but he would rather stay with the Qunari. Oh well, his loss.)
I've decided Liz and Madar are actually Dirthamen and Falon'din.
.
I'll admit that was interesting, thank you. I'm not convinced, but it was interesting.
I'm also 100% sure you're actually Dagna.
But I... haven't even got to the convincing part yet. That was just background theory....
*buries her head in her hands*
...I've failed him yet again.

Unless you are anywhere near Cole.
Not quite. True, Cole can read thoughts, but he only senses people's pain, quickly tries to fix it, then leaves them alone.
He doesn't try to police their thoughts; stop them from thinking something he doesn't agree with, or direct their thoughts toward something he thinks they should.
Yeah. There's a very distinct difference between the Qun as it was originally written, and the Qun of modern Qunari. Same thing with the Chant and the modern Chantry. They were attempts at writing up a set of rules to create a social system that would stabilize the social forces of Order and Chaos, but as time passes, the organizations themselves begin to twist from their original... purpose....
Oh my god. *starts laughing hysterically*
It's kind of the same thing, just on a different scale. Organizations are spirits, becoming demons. Their Purpose is being twisted.
GAIDER.
Again, we have... No way of knowing. I gave a possibility, just as you have. We'll need: 1) Codex entries, 2) Books, 3) Comics, 4) DLC, and 5) more games for us to know with any kind of certainty. I refuse to place myself in any position of authority or control.
Time for me to bow out before this all explodes horribly rather than being just seen as literary parallels, cool ideas, interesting connections, and possibilities.I'll be back once things die down into smut and leave again once someone gets offended. And then back when we get pictures of blanket forts and kittens.
I really hope I didn't offend you!

I think it's fine. Nobody is angry that I can tell! Just our typical Solas thread, respectful arguments.
I don't know where this cycle of offense idea came from. That was never what this thread did before and now we have people making joke charts about it. It's kind of disheartening...

I want to say thanks for posting that mosiac codex entry! I think it's interesting and I don't think I've gotten it yet (I hate hunting those things down). It gave me some new things to think about. c:

I agree! I don't think people get offended all that easily here and usually we talk things out in the thread, AFAIK...
I'm an ENFP as well!
Out of likes because WHY! I swear I get like 2/day now. I must save them precious likes!

Aww don't go!!! You and madrar make things more interesting. I may not agree because to be frank I don't have the lore/codex knowledge to form up theories like you guys have but I never got the impression that people here were getting offended?
I think it's good to throw theories around. We just have to be careful not to get too caught up in it. Sometime I myself forget what is coming from an actual codex and what has been theoricrafting. I have to catch myself lol
It's just like we mentioned. Pre-Post-ME3 people were 1000% sure of the Indoctrination Theory with substantial evidence, when in fact it turned out to be way more interesting and complicated that what Bioware had given us in the game. It was hilarious and disastrous.
Where is that chart that someone posted a few pages back about our daily cycle in this thread? We go through it REALLY fast. lol
TOP OF THE PAGE SOLAS WHOO!

I'm also not a fan of the elves being behind all the other race lore in the universe. They've hinted that they were all connected, specifically to the ancient elves, in the past but it's actually not something I'm all that fond of. Part of this stems from the fact that, before Solas, I found elven lore and the elves in general to be the least compelling faction of Thedas. But that's just me!
To make Solas so central to all of these connected histories and almost metaphysical qualities of the Dragon Age universe that I've seen speculated around here would do the character a disservice, in my eyes. He becomes more of an abstract and less of a person, and Solas the person is who caught my real interest. It also doesn't fit considering he himself is always trying to deny that he and the other elven gods were really powerful gods. To have the DA universe revolve so much around them and to be embedded in the very nature of Thedas, Order and Chaos themselves....that sounds pretty traditionally god-like to me!
Guh. This. I actually love the dwarves more than any other race. MOAR DWARVES. The Fariel's tomb quest in the Hissing Wastes with Varric...gave me the chills. I loved it so much. This whole fallen empire and obstiance. UGH I LOVE THEM. If there was Kal-Sharok in the next game, my Lavellan would be like shoving Solas/Mytahl "Don't care about your mess...MORE OF THIS". I don't want Solas to be the center of that. I also don't think he is because he doesn't seem to understand the dwarves very well. I want their success and their failures to be their own. I want it to show that their refusal to completely fall and succeed is because of their amazing stubborness and ingeniuity.
I really don't care if the theories comes up as right or wrong, I like theory because it's theory. A well made theory has a poetic logical beauty in it self
I agree! I can appreciate a cool theory and not necessarily want it to be true. That happens a lot to me in here! I love reading all of your stuff.
LMAO~ Am I the ONLY ENFP here? But I love hanging out in online forums! Specially this thread. This is my lifeline y'all!

If you think I'm offended you are wrong ![]()
I like your theories, a lot! I like the idea of qunari being slaves to the elves but at the same time don't like it because it doesn't fit in the puzzle in my head...
Though the pieces I own could be of the wrong shape or image @_@
Everything's... So. Complicatedddddddd
I want DLCs to help with the mess in my head, one for the qunari, one for the dwarves, and last one for Solas which will have elven lore.
That way I can wait patiently until the next game.
The stringer makes me believe there will be clarification in a DLC, as well as what Solas said in one of the breakup dialogue branches "you will see".
I'm relatively assured I'll know more within a year, but.. A year is a long time T_T

The joke chart was....a joke.
And mostly true, regardless of what this thread did before- it's what it does now. People are very sensitive to things and so everybody tiptoes around everyone else hoping they haven't offended anyone.

Everything ok in here?
