I'm kind of surprised his other hand just.. stays there. It seems a bit unnatural.

When kissing a loved one your entire body is usually into it, even in small kisses. Hand at the side is weird.

I'll just let myself think they got lazy on animating it.

I love the small detail is that he is still holding back. Just a little. One hand left behind.

Rebellion and Justice aren't opposing concepts, so I don't think it's odd they are friends.

They could even be reinforcing of one another in certain situations :3

Just a quick thought about future DLC.

I think one of the DLCs will be about the calling (duh). But when the well of sorrows says "go to him" and "the calling". I think it's saying to go to the architect. The architect might be in the west, where the grey warden is supposed to be.

If this became a thing, I would be the happiest in all the land. The Architect was one of the most fascinating characters in DA. I imagine we might see Velanna with him.

Nah, it's not so bad.

It could get way worse, at least at the end of the day we all apologize and love each other.

Arguments happen and people get upset. Hopefully those that do can forgive, and those that don't can see themselves out. I think we're fine. :)

That's what I like about this thread.

We pretty much take a leaf out of Solas' book. Discuss, think, "hey, maybe you're right." Cookies and smut and blanket forts are spread around. Happy days.

Exactly, I feel their roles are somewhat co-dependent to some extent. Why rebel if not to seek some form of justice, right a wrong.

Mythal always seemed to me to be a god of her people. And to some extent, I can see Solas almost being a mirror to her, the "chaos" to her "order".

As a god of "rebellion", perhaps part of Solas's demesne was to care for and monitor the grievances within the elven community, particularly those that might lead to armed warfare or rebellion.

Yeah, right! Depending on situation.

The codex also mentions "noble struggle" :)

Or maybe it's a symbol of how he's even now trying to hold himself back in their relationship? He wants it but he can't let himself have it?

Sort of a one foot in, one foot out scenario?

I am out of likes and totally putting on my scarf so I can brave the cold. But This. I love you. And it. Deeply.

Ok, now you're making me blush...

(I love you too btw. Your theory-crafting mind is unnatural. And madrar's too. I can't remember what people told me two minutes ago. I've forgotten half of Inquisition already... That's my excuse for everything btw. My brain is mush.)

What a dragon age inquisition DLC will be about.

I think one of the DLCs for Dragon Age Inquisition will be about the Grey Warden’s Calling and how to cure it with the aid of The Architect. This is foreshadowed in many ways in the game.

In a letter from the grey warden mentions that they are in “the west” looking for a cure for the calling.  So long as the grey warden is alive, they will be doing this quest. Supposedly Morrigan is the one who tells them of this tip. I assume if the grey warden is not alive, they will be replaced by another character with similar goals. AKA Alistair, Logain, or Stroud.

Alistair’s mother, Fiona, is in the game. She is the only grey warden to be cured of the taint and the calling. She might be wrapped up in this whole thing in some way.

In the well of sorrows when I reversed the whispers, it talks about the calling. Among the lines said in the well are “go to him” and “the calling”. In the dragon age keep, one of the import world state options was if you wanted to kill the architect. They would not add this if it was not important.

The architect is the only person to ever figure out how to get rid of the calling in darkspawn by doing a reverse joining ritual with grey warden blood. At the ending of Dragon Age Awakening his hoard of non-calling darkspawn can go off and form their own community.

It doesn’t matter if you killed the Architect or not, it is hinted in Dragon Age 2 that he survives somehow no matter what. If you killed him, he lets Hawke know it is him keeping the deep roads clear. If you do kill him, the deep roads are still cleared but you are not told why.

I think the decision on if you killed him or not will only affect his dialogues and disposition to help the grey warden. This type of thing happens all the time.

----

Do I have any holes in my theory?

Mmmm I can see how that would work out, keeping the whole Solas is balance and all. He was maybe still is working to keep it, with mythal dead and weakened state for centuries the order to his chaos went unchecked and Thedas is now fucked up. Except she managed to still drive it back bit by bit with her nudges through history. Its not perfect and its not enough. Uuughhh imma shut up I'm not good with theories, I never make sense.

In some ways I wish they'd just left it with Solas going off at the end mysteriously and left out the epilogue altogether, because of the number of theories over who Solas has been in the past and what people try and attribute him with doing.    Then have the epilogue as the prologue of the next instalment and let us get straight into what he is about.

One of my big disappointments with Solas, which in light of the epilogue is understandable, is how little lore I really did get from him personally.   Despite the fact I was a mage, he talked about magic, particularly Tevinter magic and the links with the elves, far more with Dorian.   First run through I missed all of that because I tended not to have 3 mages (2 companions and myself) in  party.    Ignored that and currently on second run have gleaned a lot more listening to those two talk but really, considering my mage status and being his lover/friend, it would have been nice if I could have been given the opportunity to learn direct.    Eavesdropping on them really made me feel like some backwoodsman Dalish with only rudimentary knowledge of anything.   Yet I was quite willing to learn from him if he'd only let me.

Another thing that bugs me slight is that, correct me if I'm wrong, at the end he treats you no differently if you are his "heart", his best friend or you punched him in the face.   Whilst I can understand him going off without a second glance if you punched him and his "heart" does get that final reassurance it "was real for us", if you thought you were his best friend, you get nothing to show for it.     I feel that does injustice to his character, since he appears to be such a loyal friend and does have strong emotions about things he really cares about, yet his Inquisitor friend get nothing, which if you are a male Dalish (who gets the short end of the stick regarding everything - no elf romance, no reveal or removal of Vallaslin) does seem particularly hard.       In fact he does appear the only character that you could totally ignore, earn constant disapproval or alternatively max out on approval and yet it makes no difference at all in his outcome.     With everyone else your choices do matter, with Solas they appear not to matter at all (unless of course it is something that carries over into the next instalment - in which case I take it all back)

Oh yes, and did his catch phrase "It's complicated" ever actually come up in game.

You do get to find out the truth about the Vallaslin as a male elf. Only it's Cory who tells you, which is erm, significantly less romantic. To do that scene for both male and female Lavellans with Solas would have been odd. It's so emotionally charged. It's weird enough when you play that balcony chat scene with a non-romancable character after doing the Solas romance (he so sounds like he's about to admit his undying love), I just, no I could not deal with that Vallaslin scene between my Tristan and Solas.
Oh see now I'm picturing it. Hilariously awkward for a non romance scene. He would have had to have shagged him after. I wouldn't allow it otherwise.
As for his end, you can say the same about Morrigan. Doesn't matter if she liked/disliked/loved you, she just up and left. It got resolved in the DLC though, which is what we are all hoping for in here. But before that? Yeah. Didn't really matter what route you took with her, either way she was leaving. The only difference was how early that would be.

Man, I'm so tempted to boot up some DAI right about now. But no! *self slap* Other games. Must play other games.

I still think that even if Solas was Shartan and Andraste was Mythal, they are just best friends. You can be really good friends and not be lovers.

Nonono, I agree to some extent. Flemeth's manipulations during the past millennium seems to have affected the amount of chaos from reaching even more horrific levels.

That's what I like about the thread, too, which is why I'm confused when people say we're "tiptoeing around things" in order to not offend others... :S There have been a few times when people have gone too far one way or the other, but things have always ended up balancing out in the end, I think? Sometimes we have to come up with compromises, but I don't think that's because we're afraid of offending people--we would just prefer not to, because we respect each other enough to not want to intentionally offend each other.

Am I completely crazy, or is that not how the thread has been? (This is a serious question--I thought I'd read every page of the thread, but it's entirely possible I missed some weird shift over to something completely different, and I am confused now.)

I've been thinking of Mythal as the order to Fen'Harel's chaos for a while.  Just in an abstract way, I like how poetic it is.  Old friends, and when Mythal's order dies, Fen'Harel's chaos overtakes Thedas.

I love this thread. It seems to balance itself overnight, unlike other threads. Leave for a little while, come back, and everything's back to normal.

Like all arguments seem to resolve themselves overnight or after a single apology.

I think we've got some pretty great folks here.

Yeah, perhaps I shouldn't have killed him after all. Right after the mission in Adamant Fortress, Solas talks about the Grey Wardens' plan and, according to him, kill all the old gods is not a solution, actually Solas gets mad about it saying something like "that could destroy us all" or something, I don't remember well but I have tried the 3 options of dialogue and clearly he's not only mad about the demon army, there is something else : perhaps he already knows/ suspects what would happen in this case?
I think that it's possible that the darkspawns are answering the Calling because they are bounded to the old gods, like (probably) the magisters/worshipers of the old gods were before them. I suspect that this "link" is something that is transmitted through the blight, perhaps like a blood magic created disease? That could explain why the darkpawns are so dedicated to the old gods / archdemon and why the archdemon doesn't care about anything else. Perhaps all the darkspawns will behave like the archdemon after they are released from the calling, I mean by that that they probably all will try to reach the surface and destroy everything.

Have you been on the other threads on this forum. THEY ARE TERRIFYING.  It's like lifting up a rotting log and seeing every creepy crawly known to man seething underneath it.  So I think some people may be used to more straight up **** talking because they frequent other areas and yes - people have been "tip-toeing" a bit because the only other apparent alternative on BSN is to just go nuclear on the other person.

For the most part, I agree with you, the threads has been civil.  So as long as people keep it cool - I don't really care.

I came here because I have a problem. But I stayed because it's been really nice.
