I have to say, I find the idea that he would dismiss someone for not being able to dream the furthest thing from open minded. It would give me the impression that he feels they're not worth getting to know because they can't connect with him in the way he wants. 

 

Well, again, I would hope he's not race-gated, but if he is, that would be the only way it makes sense to me for him to be race-gated.  I can't see him gated against elves, even though it's surely possible, because he is not anti-elf--just wants to be seen as a person as opposed to just an elf.  What kind of a person would he be if he himself didn't want to be with an elf, because that person is an elf?  Oh right... a hypocrite.

 

The reason for race-gating is said to be story-related.  For Solas, the only thing that immediately comes to mind is that it must somehow involve the Fade, IF he's even an LI, and IF he is also race-gated.  Those are both huge "ifs."  Most likely, race-gating is also an excuse to not have to create oodles of extra animations for much larger or smaller characters.  So in truth, story or no, I'd expect Solas to be gated against dwarves and qunari, if he is gated at all.

 

It wouldn't mean he can't be open-minded (because it's more complicated than that), only that he might not be able to find someone attractive whose mind he can't touch in dreams.  I doubt it would involve his being horrible or rude, he simply wouldn't be able to understand a person who can't dream.  The idea behind it is not "omg I hate dwarves," but rather "what if Solas fell in love intellectually instead of physically?"  Which, sure, can happen via conversation, too, but as a Fade expert, dreams may have special meaning to him.  Not being able to share them may be a thing he can't get past on a romantic level, though he could be friends with a person he couldn't go explore the Fade with.  Being open-minded doesn't mean a person is necessarily open to everything ever.

I'm really hoping that they choose to release the ID of the final two this week, and do so at the same time.  I don't even care if we don't know who's race-gated or against whom, though I do hope they reveal that information sooner or later as well, or people will agonize over it (myself included if Solas is an option).

 

I don't think the last handful of fan threads can survive this waiting much longer.  I am personally completely fed up with it.  I mean, not in an RAR ANGRY way, but a "Seriously this has gotten old and I'm bored with it and it's causing drama and JUST GET IT OVER WITH so we can move on already" kind of way.

Off topic question. I need some games to play to take my mind off waiting for DAI. Even though I didn't like Sacred 2, I'm getting Sacred 3. It however comes out in August. Bound by Flame is out. Seen some bad review to its alright reviews. Has anyone played it? Is it worth getting? Even for a slight diversion?

Have you played The Wolf Among Us?  It's no longer half-price on Steam but I really enjoyed it.  Maybe pick it up if it goes on sale again, if you don't already have it.

 

I also highly recommend Shadowrun Returns and its DLC/extra campaign Dragonfall.

Same! I mean, I don't want to demand of Bioware, and they should reveal whenever they see fit, but the wait is so agonizing and our thoughts are going crazy. ;_;

I could live with that. Besides that means that they can always say who is not race gated and I'm sure (at least I hope) we can use process of elimination to figure out who the two race gated ones are

I'm thinking that they'll use Comic Con for gameplay rather than LI announcements or any additional character information, though it can't hurt to hope for it... I just wish they'd announce who the LIs are soon. I'm at the point where I'm just... sick of it. There aren't any more companions/advisors to announce to keep myself occupied, so it's just at that point where it's incredibly frustrating.

*nodding* yeah, I could handle that... especially since I've only got an elf planned to romance him and it seems.... pretty unlikely he'd be race gated to elves... yeah. I could deal with that

Again, I hope he is an LI and not the race-gated one.  That is just the only logical reason I can think of for "story reasons" for Solas being race-gated.  There may be other, more valid reasons I simply don't know about.  Someone suggested he could be gated against elves because he doesn't just want to be seen as an elf.  But... that would involve his seeing other elves as just elves, which would make him terribly closed-minded, too.  But I could see it happening if he had some severe problems with Dalish, even if your Dalish is very friendly, good to other elves and mages, etc. and open-minded. It just wouldn't make much sense, though, considering he himself doesn't want to be seen as just another elf.  I could also see him having problems with qunari, if he's hung up on his distaste for the Qun, even though the Inquisitor qunari is Vashoth.  But the one possibility that makes sense is to gate him against those who can't dream, due to his Fade connection.  No, it wouldn't be "nice" or "good" or even fair...  but it would be a story reason and it would make sense, if he absolutely had to be race-gated.  Which I hope he is not (even though the idea of a Fade romance actually very much appeals to me, personally--I want everyone who wants Solas to be able to have him).

Divinity:Original Sin is fun. I second Shadowrun though I haven't gotten too far on the expansion.

 

I have started Bound by Flame but can't really recommend it without reservation. I haven't gotten to the romances yet but interaction over all is shallow and despite the touted play as you choose, the PC doesn't feel like mine. Character creation is also really shallow. It was definitely written from a male perspective that was given a female skins. I'm no prude but the swearing feels gratuitous and makes me cringe. I still plan on finishing it and honestly it was a decent attempt at an indie developer to be inclusive but I'm not sure they hit the mark.

I agree it is getting old and I'm really tired of this (a lot of people are it seems)...I really don't care who is race gated at all I just want to know who the last 2 Li's are that's it.   

It's kind of sad how stressed i've gotten over not knowing. I really wish they would just release them. That way if Solas is not a romance then I can start the healing process now...or if the reverse then I can finally stop worrying. I have to just remind myself it's just a game....it's not working though XD

Haha same here I tell myself they are just pixels and try to busy myself with something everyday..but it doesn't work at all,I'm still coming onto this thread everyday hoping to get some Solas news!

It's hard to recommend games without knowing what kinds you like, but assuming you like RPGs, I'll toss a vote for Child of Light. I haven't finished it yet, but it's the first turn-based RPG I've played in a long while that I've really enjoyed. The art, animation and atmosphere are gorgeous. It's like playing a watercolor painting.

You know, regarding race-gating...

 

Again, I really hope if Solas is an option he is NOT race-gated.  But who else might be, among the male LIs?  Remember that it is a story reason, so size difference does not necessarily matter in regard to who can and can't be romanced (though it may be a consideration because of animation issues--if the animation issues could be resolved, it may be that certain stories may be changed to fit, pre-release).

 

Cullen evidently had prejudice in the past against non-Andrastians.  So... he could be gated to human only, maybe, or to human and qunari (he can convert the Vashoth heathens?).  Maybe he's gated, but only against Dalish elves due to story reasons?

 

Dorian could be anti-qunari, given he's from Tevinter.  He wants to change things, so I can't really see him being anti-elf.  Maybe, though, some of the bias and prejudice of the Imperium have stuck with him, and he could be anti-dwarf or even anti-elf?

 

We know that Iron Bull is NOT race-gated.

 

If Solas is not an LI, Varric makes sense for race-gating as he is, as far as we know, only into dwarves.  Probably also only women.  A bad choice for the remaining LI since it would likely be better to have the final male be bisexual, but Bioware may not be considering that.

 

Who could Blackwall be gated against?  I'm thinking he isn't available at all, due to possible concerns about love getting in the way of duty.
