He's funny, charming, and has a amazing reaction realistic to what is happening around him? I think he'd make a interesting LI, but he has makes a great companion because He becomes a reliable friend for your Inq/Hawke.
Wasn't sure how to reply to that without sounding snobbish. Solas is a wonderful LI And correlates to the Story, but I think Varric is the type of guy you'd want to marry or something. This sounds so strange.
Yea... I think it's because Varric's personality very closely resembles my husbands. So it's probably the whole Familiarity thing. Also, I feel like Varric is the sort who won't let himself be happy so that's a problem as well. Of course same could be said about Solas ><

I kinda miss the days when we were allowed the option to engage in the occasional threesome.
Iron Bull sleeps with the chantry sister in Haven, has a threesome with two serving girls at Skyhold, and possibly hooks up with Dorian and/or the Inquisitor... which means that in a single playthrough he has more sex and romantic partner options than the Inquisitor, if you stop and think about it?!
I love the fact that all the companions have a love life outside of the PC. It's one of those thing that makes the game great. The NPC lives outside of their relationship to your quizzie!

I agree, it's nice to have them not be protagonist-centric anymore and revolve around us, but sometimes I wonder if they make their lives a little more interesting than what they give to our protagonists? ![]()

I'm in the same boat as you. I'm 28. I don't do fangirling, I don't do fanfics. The shows I like have been off the air for years so there's a beginning and an end. I loved Dragon Age since the beginning but was never emotional about it before. I mostly loved the characters the same way you'd love the memories of a fond child-hood friend. Aww Alistair/Warden. Aww Shale. Awww Nobody in DA2 - I obviously let Hawke die. DID YOU HEAR HOW ALISTAIR TALKS ABOUT HIS LADY?
This romance BROKE ME. When I first played through it, I was absolutely gutted. I have so many other things I need to do with my time...I need this to be resolved.
This is pretty much how I am! When I first played DA:O years ago, I romanced.. NO ONE. Alistair annoyed the heck out of me. He's the boy-you-turn-into-a-man and I don't have patience for that. My favorite companions were Shale and Morrigan. In DA2 the only one I romanced was Fenris. I always let Hawke die in the fade, haha. Or at least, I leave her behind. She may not be dead, after all.
But Solas is something else entirely. PW, his editor and the animation team truly did an amazing job.

I love Varric, but I would have preferred him with Hawke. Now that we're in Inquisition, I am too busy shipping him with Cassandra. /fingertent

I adore Varric, but I don't get that at all. Not that i think there's anything wrong with you for it, but I don't see what a lot of people apparently see in him.
For me it's because he was my Hawke's best friend. He was unwaveringly loyal. He is funny. He has a good heart. He's kind. And that manly chest, Oh My! I just think he is a fantastic character. There's so many complicated, conflicted, damaged characters in BioWare's games. I liked that Varric is comparatively simple in that regard (his baggage seems tame to me when you compare him to Anders). He genuinely cares about everyone around him, even if it isn't totally mutual. He looks out for his friends. He just makes me smile. He's not quite the same in DAI, but that's ok. Dude has been through some ****.
I was one of those fools hoping he'd be a LI in DAI.

THIS... I'll agree with. I think the origins for the Inquisitor could have been significantly more fleshed out. I would have LOVED for the game to have begun in Clan Lavellan, understanding and learning what this tribe of nomadic elves had desired to discover from the peace talks at the Temple of Sacred Ashes.
Also, I'm fine if my companions have lives outside of me - so long as they're in character. If Fenris wusses out of a relationship with Hawke because sex triggers his memories of the ritual that placed his lyrium tattoos upon him and his life before and it's too painful for him to address, I can't buy the possible relationship between him and Isabella.
People are as defined by what they do as what they DON'T do and I think that's something Bioware needs to keep in mind. It's honestly why I love that Solas is both race and gender gated. Hell, if they had wanted to class gate Fenris from mages? I would have been ecstatic.
I'd still take Fenris's hit it and quit it over Blackwalls. /cough

I can't even.
I never watched sherlock so the most I've seen of him is as a CGI dragon. Since this is a bioware forum and it is reasonable to believe that I played dragon age which includes varric. So it's like asking why I don't have the same crush as the person next to me.

lol do you think if Solas would've met Merrill first, he would've found her equally fascinating? I'm treading in dangerous ground but I could see it happening. However you could argue Solas' connection to the Inquisitor is deeper because of the Anchor but you know that could go either way.
That's difficult to say, perhaps because Solas was someone who I befriended instead of romanced, so it's a little different for me. Unlike virtually everyone else here, my Lavellan (who was a man) became very good friends with Solas, but there are certain traits that were similar to Merrill - an understanding that spirits can be much more complex than simply good and evil, and a view that blood magic isn't black or white, but a tool. I think the disagreements that my Lavellan had with Solas would be the same - Merrill follows the elven pantheon and appreciates Dalish culture, so they would disagree about this at first, but Merrill is also compassionate and considerate, and she would view Solas as an elf - as my Lavellan immediately did when he told Solas that the Dalish were also his people.
As for romance, it's hard to say. I could see Merrill doing a lot of the same things that Solas respected my Lavellan for - caring about others, treating Cole as a person and not a 'demon', being open to new ideas, helping people in need, her desire to empower the People. I suppose anything is possible. Maybe the stars were just right for Solas to fall for a female Lavellan.
Of course, I would have pursued a romance with Merrill instead...
but that's simply how I see it.
