Yeah, it seems like they tried to keep the time travel contained so that it wouldn't mess too much with the universe.
Any time you add time travel into a mythos you just open a whole can of worms. Obviously even if Solas was trying to reset the timeline, he'd fail, because there's no way we would play in the new utopia dragon age. So if they really wanted Solas to fail at destroying the world, its just easier not to make it that complicated. Then you never need to deal with the whole time travel drama bomb again.
Wait, what? I'm still catching up, but I'm totally confused about where people are picking up on the Qun = eastern philosophy vibe. It seems like a pretty direct and pointed mirror of Marxian socialism, doesn't it? Or am I off here?
"From each according to his ability, to each according to his need." This is the absolute dead-center heart of the Qun, philosophically. The individual's place in society is literally dictated by what she contributes to it. They go so far with this concept that your role stands in for your "self"- it is what -and all- that you are within the Qun. Individuals don't have names. They have titles, descriptors of what they Do.
Also, "Every citizen will make his particular contribution to the activities of the community according to his capacity, his talent and his age; it is on this basis that his duties will be determined, in conformity with the distributive laws" sounds to me like a word-for-word description of Iron Bull's upbringing.
No? Am I missing something?
Somewhat.
The Qun lack the focus on economy and the bourgeois as part of their religion. The communist economy of theirs is an afterthought, a natural outgrowth of the Qun. Sort of a common sense, the Qun is all, so we can't have anyone taking privileges that diminish the whole.
The Qunari basically have a caste system that they assign people into, and a focus on stability.
Basically, you're right that they have some Commie in them, but they're, as Solas would put it, 'more complicated than that'. There's some Confucianism too.
I see Communism at its ideal as a brotherhood of man, radical, fiery, willing to challenge each and every idea, to keep justice moving forward. (Thank you for not even trying to reach that ideal, Josef. :/ )
The Qun wants people to find value in finding their role, accepting their lot in life. It's a fatalistic, hive-mind mentality.
I don't think the author (( Maybe she did? I just skimmed through it.) Literally meant he wants to time-travel. I think what she meant is the feeling is the same. Solas trapped the Pantheon (( Seemingly.)) And then went to sleep, woke up and found out he screwed everything up, So this is not the future he wanted or planned. And now he is trying to go about rectifying his mistakes, but the people of this Thedas don't -feel- real to them, because It wasn't supposed to have been like this. So until he does whatever he feels like he needs to do, nothing will feel real to him, Or it would be what he had planned for it to be.

Besides, time travel was already used once. It's one of those things that quickly get old if used too many times. I like the Fullmetal Alchemist idea. It would be cool if whatever magic Solas wants to perform requires an enormous glyph that stretches over Tevinter or maybe even Thedas. Then your goal throughout the game is to find the core points of the glyph and fight monsters/do dungeons in order to reinforce the point or destroy it depending on whether you side with Solas. They probably won't do this idea though.
Here, have a Solas:
So am I the lone ISFP in this thread? I've seen plenty of variations of the Is, but didn't notice a fellow ISFP yet. :'(
Thousands (it seems like) of pages late, but this made me laugh, because a friend of mine (mappeli from deviant art) both romanced Solas, and one night we had a discussion about this very expression, and we - okay I - made a joke and came to the "conclusion" that this expression right here is not caused by the tea. *wink* *wink* *nudge* *nudge*
Needless to say I definitely got some smut sketches out of that convo. Plus a pregnant Kani, and a smiling gecko with a flower in it's mouth.
My friends and I are weird.
1.) Solas is the reapers. NOOOOOOO
2.) Please make a video of you saying all this out loud so the world can see this!
1) He's not quite that bad! @w@ ...though I suppose he might be a bit uncomfortably close for some. Remember, Falon'Din has a critical place in the cycle of reincarnation that underlies Thedas. Mortal deaths are bad, yes, but from his perspective he's still saving the "important" parts. Nothing the Maker has wrought shall be lost, right?
That's one key to understanding why he's so intensely upset about the Spirit of Wisdom dying, yet cares very little about killing the mages in All New: Faded for Her. It's not that it's a personal matter (though that factors in, no doubt)- it's that the mages have actually destroyed something in causing the spirit's "death". As a spirit forced into the physical world and killed, she dissipates into nothingness, while the "souls" of the mages continue to exist after their physical death. There is a chance, of course, that something similar to the Spirit that he once knew will eventually form again- but it will not be the friend he knew. Her personality (her "self" or "soul") is completely obliterated, all because they were ignorant fools.
I let him kill the mages every time. Idiots.
2) eep. That's not really my thing! No time to fiddle with graphics and all the other stuff that would be required- I can barely keep up with this thread and still get a minimum of actual work done. Glad it made sense to you, though! Given its general reception (and that was just some of the back-theory) I'm not sure I should continue with the overall timeline argument or just shrug and let it go. >w<;
The Solas and time travel theory is interesting and seems to fit well into some of the lore and dialogue. However, I think that if Solas' intention the whole time was to turn back time, I think he would have NEVER started a relationship with Lavellan. I mean, I think he would really keep his distance and not even befriend anyone. I can't imagine him to be THIS irresponsible. I guess it only makes sense if the current Lavellan is a reincarnation of his lover in Arlathan and he wants to go back to that time and save her from dying or something so that they can be together in the past.
Isn't this... like... the premise of Crystal White? It is Crystal White, isn't it? I'm reading so many it's hard to keep track of them all.
I didn't make this, but I stumbled across this on YouTube and thought it was a pretty cool fan video for Solas:

Hmm, I was replaying the mage quest the other day and I was thinking this as well. Future Leliana comments about how she and that world isn't real to the Quizzy. So I keep going back to that banter about how the Quizzy is "real" and how that could make everyone real. It changes everything but can't. If I remember correctly, Solas doesn't care to know his fate in that reality when you talk to him about it after.

Yeah, it's my headcanon now.
Oh and I repost this for those who do not want to go pages back or have not seen this one..
I made a new fan video of DAI MEN (It was supposed to be funny and short) I hope you like it.. many on blackwall's thread and cullens + dorians liked it:

Ugh this. I had this whole post but yes. This has always been my read on his character. It must be like living in a waking nightmare for him. Even if there were parts of Ancient Artlathan he hated...the devil you know is better than the devil you don't. People kept getting hung up on the "Real". He didn't want Lavellan et al to be real - meaning the jaded way he was viewing people in her age - , because that means whatever stupid thing he has to do is going to actually really cause a lot of real pain and real problems.
She didn't mean time travel. She used it as an analogy. The time travel thing gets shut down by BW quick int he game. It's only available because of the breach. Now that doesn't mean they can't/won't retcon that.

Read where ????
I usually google 'Dragon Age Inquisition single-player DLC' once in a while to see if there any news regarding that matter. It was full of 'if's and 'perhaps', but still it was something. (I assume they're refraining from giving concrete answers so they'll be able to retreat if sale figures don't live up to their expectations.)
I'll try to find the link. ![]()

That's also a really good way of looking at this.

Oh, and here's a video I posted earlier today I made of both Solas and Cullen's romances at the same time >=D. The two most eligible bachelors of Thedas *sigh*

Ahh, I gotcha. The passive acceptance bit being kind of a chimeric Buddhist thing tacked on to the basic idea to counter the innate "fire" and emotional intensity (Will in the blood) from the dragon element. I can totally see that. Thanks for the explanation!
My literal reaction always to this picture (it's me in the picture lol but it was taken randomly some time ago for no purpose and since I had it I decided to use it to put my feels of this picture straight) :
The Qunari reminds me of the Romulans from Star Trek. Both races try to conform to a very strict way of being partly because if they don't, their emotions would get the better of them or something.

Cullen is the hunkiest hunk in all of Thedas. It was like romancing my Ken doll. I was so happy.
Solas is like Indiana Jones. Even if it takes the shittiest reboot known to man - he will finally be with his Mary Ann Ravenwood and I will be vindicated for my years of waiting.
Cool
