I agree.  I feel the Corypheus story arc was, lacking?  Or, like it needed...more?  In Legacy, I nearly poopoo'd my small clothes when I saw him appear.  It probably didn't help I was playing in a dark room, in the middle of the night... alone.

There was a small part of me that was like, rooting for the bad guy during my playthrough in Inquisition, lol!  I've only ever played Nightmare, because I wanted to feel like every single moment was life or death, I needed that struggle to feel like what was going on was really like the end of the world.  Had Corypheus succeeded in his evil plan, in even a small way (other than the Breach...), then I feel like that would have really put the emphasis on the "Oh s***, things are gettin' REAL up in hurr" feeling the story was trying to give me.

That's a legitimate complaint.  I know I felt that way...so did a lot of people and reviewers.  He was actually kind of terrifying in Legacy.  I was like 'oh finally DA is back on track' when I played it.   Then the voice acting with him in that was incredible. DA:I He was kind of just a ridiculous comic book villain in this game and by the end I was laughing at him.  Not even once did I feel remotely worried.

I wouldn't be surprised if we saw Seranni or Velanna again with the architect. Velanna can die, but wasn't it a 'they never found the body' type situation?

Yes, I recall reading she was once in consideration as a companion for DA2, to be merged with Justice.... but they decided they needed a mage who was primarily concerned only with mages, so they chose Anders.

The boss fight in Legacy was scary as HELL, too.  I mean once you got the idea of it, it wasn't too bad, but it was SCARY!  He slumbered all that time, woke up, said a few creepy lines, then BOOM, CHAOS UNLEASHED!

In Inquisition, I found a way to just shoot fire bolts at Corypheus from the ledge at the end, and never once took damage.  I was like "SERIOUSLY!  I need bragging points for when I meet up with Hawke later on!"  Hahaha!

I doubt the Seven Magisters operate on the same body hopping rules as the Old Gods.

Somewhere, I read this brilliant fan theory that explained why that was. But I can't find it. :(

But if the 'soul can't be forced on an unwilling host' thing said by Flemeth is true, Seranni is present and willing and tainted at the Architect's possible death scene.

Which I've only done once, for my Ruthless Jerk Warden playthrough. I didn't like it.

Now that I've read The Calling and actually gotten to know him better and Utha at all.

Never again.

What is it about Jamie Glover's voice that makes me melt? He voiced Darth Baras in the Old Republic, too, and, I'm not saying I would go to the Dark Side for him, I'm just saying, I mostly played Imperial so I could hang out with him more and earn his approval and stare into his yellow, yellow eyes.

Ahem.

You know how Dorian says [about the magisters] "The 7 men AND women...." - what if you got to play as one of the female magisters.  And the Architect is a romance and it was this twisted, Tim Burton-esque affair. I would be...ok with that...or not play just know it was in the game.

ANYWAYS - SOLAS IS TOTALLY ADORABLE.

On my first PT I didn't even need to strategize, my game glitched and only the dragon part worked normal...I think.
He was stuck jumping and shooting red **** at the same spot. I was playing on hard. It was a blessing really cause that was an effortless win.

Wouldn't he need the same setup Cory had with his dragon that let him jump to Wardens? Ha, imagine if the Warden went through all that trouble of living through killing the Archdemon only to get their body taken by the Architect pulling the same trick.

Edit: Ah, we meet again top of the page.

I really don't see Par Vollen as the domain of Dirthamen, Falon'din, or Fen'harel, in any combination. While the Anubis angle could point out, it's very specifically pointed out that, while there are some bodies interred within the pyramids, they are not mausoleums. It seems their purpose was religious. And they match up perfectly to the Sun Constellation, associated with Elgar'nan.

Giant, horned creatures that struggle with violence and bloodlust. Sounds exactly like the sort Elgie would want.

<snip snip>

Oh no- I'm with you there.  I'm pretty much entirely on board with the kossith being Elgar'nan's.  It's a great fit.  I'm just still putting together exactly who was where when.  It seems (I could be wrong?) the area was populated with humans / Fex before the Qunari moved in from further north.

It's that native culture that seems suspicious to me, not the later appropriation of that culture we see reflected in Qunari occupation, Sun god centric worship and pyramid raising.  If anything, the Qunari presence strengthens my suspicions, given that in our theoretical timeline Dirthamen-as-a-God-king would have disappeared significantly before the fall of Arlathan (thanks to Falon'Din's revolution spreading to Mythal's lands and Dirth getting thrown in the Void) causing his domain and people to be appropriated by other "gods".

Get where I'm coming from?

Haha! So true. I usually would jump off the battlements to get to Cassandra, too, given that I usually swung by Loghain while doing the rounds.

I think it's safe to say that Corypheus doesn't need the red lyrium dragon to body-jump. He possessed Larius/Janeka in some way.

The Wardens put him in a prison some years after the First Blight.

They spent ten years alternatively trying to kill him or control him. Nothing worked. It's not clear if he pulled the trick he did at Mythal or not, but he's certainly a tough bugger.

I felt like Corypheus was lacking in Inquisition. :( (Except for David Sterne's voice acting. The Haven scene. Dear lord. :D ) His threat level was much, much higher in Legacy. My jaw hit the floor, and it's still the greatest moment in DA2, and one of the greatest in Bioware history. The entire scene.

In Inquisition I really wish he had more screen time and got more done. The Shrine of Dumat journals and the Claw of Dumat painted a picture of a complicated, torn villain. A dark version of Solas in that he's awoken into this craptastic world with his empire fallen to ruin.

My friends call me the penis whisperer for a reason.

Ah. I suppose that part makes sense, given the Triple Threat Theory.

"It's that native culture that seems suspicious to me, not the later appropriation of that culture we see reflected in Qunari occupation and suspicious pyramid raising."

I may be misunderstanding you, but the pyramids are far older than the Qunari occupation. They're believed to be human. Ancient ruins lost to the jungle, that sort of thing. The humans and the Fex seem to have been living rustically, but similar to their neighbors in Seheron and Tevinter.

Then again, a lot of white scientists and historians declared the ancient ruins in the African jungle to be long lost white civilizations, not black ones. Maybe humans are doing the same things with the Fex. Maybe I'm doing it with the elves/kossith. *shrug*

Not like you guys would care. But i got a few asks on tumblr about what I think Solas' D looks like.

Most people would ignore this type of question. But me being a bastion of truth dug deep to find the answer.

So I mean... if you want to know... you know where to look.

Hmm.   Fair point about pinning an age on the pyramids.  I haven't wrapped my mind around the timeline of the area, really.  What's the source for thinking they're all in a big dragon pattern again?  (Could we be talking about "rebellion dragon" iconography like we find in Kirkwall, or is it definitely a more direct "sun dragon" / obviously Elgar'nan kind of thing?)

I desperately need to dig up Solas' dialog about the tribal, primitive humans with the "all but hopeless" cause... the potential for direct failed rebellion connection is nagging at me.

edit:  "I saw a savage human hoard go marching toward the battlefront. They sang a soldier’s hymn to keep formation. The primal music shook the ground. These savage unwashed warriors carried harmonies no Chantry choir has mastered. Though their cause was all but hopeless, they sang songs that made the spirits weep."

Suggestive... but aside from the admittedly weak "social equality = literal harmony" reference, not at all definitive.

Yeeeeaaaaahhh unless you don't give two lumps of crap about people being horrible asses to you, just because they can, because anonymity and distance seems to bring the worst of cowardly assbutts, then staying 50 leagues away from Tumblr is not a bad idea. If you can ignore the idiots then please do enjoy the global weirdness and porn. I know I do... mainly for the puns.

Maybe this needs to be a Solas-threadwide project.

Where we can theorycraft all information in one place.

I'd kill for a way to tag individual posts.  @w@    Followed by the ability to display thread posts by tag.

Sometimes you need theory, sometimes you need commiseration, sometimes you need smut.  Given how fast this thread moves, trying to dig your way out or find something you've missed in here is a hot mess.
