I've never gotten to the scene with a non-Kieran playthrough. Starting the video now. ![]()
"We few who travel far, call to me, and I will come. Without mercy, without fear."
"Cry havoc in the moonlight, let the fire of vengeance burn, the cause is clear. A very old invocation, perfectly translated."
"Why, thank you."-Morrigan and Solas at the Altar of Mythal.
Very interesting.
I'm absurdly proud of Solas and Morrigan for having a moment.
More association of Mythal with the moon. Fire=sun and vengeance=Elgar'nan. Probably used to tag-team people who screwed up.
'We few who travel far, call to me, and I will come." That seems very strange to me. We few who travel far? The Elvhen with the Eluvians? The Pantheon?

I was thinking, and I know that many will disagree, but... can we really find a logical explanation for everything? I mean, magic is magic. It is not supposed to be logical, or to follow some physical/chemical laws. It has its own. By trying to explain everything from a logical standpoint, you take "magic" away and replace it with "mundane". The point of the Maker is "faith", which is opposite of knowledge; "having faith" in something means believing in something that may or may not exist - since you have no way to *know*. Even IRL, we cannot explain everything logically, and we don't even have magic and elves and whatnot. This is a fantasy world, after all. There could always be some room for irrationality and mystery; for things that cannot be explained, because they just... are the way they are.Again, not bashing any theories. Just offering a bit of another perspective. *hides*
I know a lot of people have gotten annoyed at my scientific theorycrafting, which is honestly why I tend to not participate in a lot of the theory sessions. I can't help it, it's my coping mechanism. Some people use smut, some people eat chocolate, I over-analyze game lore. My first love is chemistry, so I tend to incorporate my IRL love with my in-game love.
I don't mind putting it under spoiler tags in the future though, if that would help?

I always used to think she refers to those who are bound to her (or at least those who travel far to reach her altar)?
Let's say, maybe, those few who are strong enough in their appreciation of Mythal to make the journey, those she is willing to help?

No-no, it's alright. I don't have anything against theories. Just voicing my opinion on the matter. Basically, all I wanted to say is that we may not be able to explain everything, and it's alright since it's a fantasy world.

It is Yiddish actually.
Seared into my brain from watching Saturday Night Live back when I was a lot younger. Mike Meyers and his Coffee Talk skits.

Oh.
Or we could do some kind of Neural Shock thing. Y'know. In Mordin's memory.
Or I could sing show-tunes. I'm still not sure what 'off-key' means, exactly, but I gather it's pretty bad.

I want my fantasy to make sense. I want it to follow rules. Not necessarily the same rules our world is bound to, but rules. I need that to take it seriously. I cannot immerse in a universe that's basically made up of "whatever comes in handy to justify... stuff". I could not take Fringe anymore from mid-way season three or something, Doctor Who lost a lot when they started to break their own rules, the X Files broke my heart more than once and I must not think about Tolkien's half-baked notion of immortality to still accept it. Throw all your oxidants in my face, please.

Arguably, the individual can only ever gaze at the world through a lense crafted of their collected knowledge and experiences. Thus, each interpretation is as valid and valuable as the next - whether it be logic and scientific analysis, or faith and love of the world functioning perfectly in all it's mystery.
I do not personally believe that faith contradicts science directly but.... that is a far larger debate for another place ![]()

I'm the type that obsessively goes over details looking for logical consistency. Bioware's usually pretty good with it.
Other writers, though...*shudders*
I'm going to go ahead and use Brandon Sanderson as a positive example.
He likes magical systems. He likes in-depth, logical magical systems.
In Mistborn, magic is based off numerous metals. The system was so logical and properly made that fans were able to figure out the unlisted metals and powers before the books that actually even mentioned them came out. That is brilliant world-building when it comes to magic.
MASSIVE SPOILERS AND RAMBLINGS ABOUT VAGUELY RELATED BOOK MISTBORN.

Exactly. The Peter-Walter dnamics. I wavered when they even took that away for a few episodes.
Actually, I felt like they had a plan for 2 1/2 seasons. And then, suddenly, they did not know how to go on. "Okay... we connected the two universes, cool! Wait... the series still goes on? Oh sh**... what... damnit... let's just... alright... Peter has been erased but stuff still goes on. Just don't explain that, okay? Not that anybody notices that if he had not been there at all, nothing of this would have happend. We can't have that... nobody will notice anyway --- they did notice? Damn. Okay, in that case... get him back somehow... right "traces of him still bleed through", oh, that is ingenious! -- They don't like it? I hate that audience. Alright, let's cut it off there and do something else... another timeline! That's it!" and so on.
If BioWare does that, I swear I'm gonna be really, REALLY.... I will really not play the next... I will... definitely... not like it much.

My fiance would get really frustrated with me during that story line. He's an intelligent man, but it doesn't bother him very much if stuff doesn't add up or breaks its own rules. He tells me I over think things too much. He has a different set of needs than I do when it comes to TV shows and movies. So he'd think the episode was ok, and then I'd go on a tirade for 30 mins. It seemed to me like they messed up the priorities and lost sight of what made the show so special. And they painted themselves into a corner.

No, no, no. Part of a good discussion is having both sides equally presented! That includes the side of people who prefer magic as magic. I stated in my OP that I don't really expect my theories to be true in-game wise, but I think the fun part about theorizing is that there are so many parallels between in-game lore and the things present in our world (history, science, religion, etc - I'm just only able to comment on the science parallels, I must leave the more interesting comparisons to the more interesting people).
EDIT: I offered to spoiler it because it's kind of off-topic and I know some people don't like reading about science mumbo-jumbo in a fantasy game, and I totally understand that! People don't come on this forum looking to read lectures, so I would feel really bad if I bored someone to death.

Mirror neurons! *random idiocy incoming*
I'm writing about how moods are contagious, like when you (paraphrasing prof.Dreyfus) enter a party and all off a sudden you are caught up in the party mood that the other people was in before you came and it hit me; The fade reacts to the material world sort of like that. It's like mirror neurons, when I see an action performed, my brain fires off the same neurons that the other person had going to perform said action, but I don't do the action.
The Fade mirrors the material but not in a tangible way. Not that this comparison does anything, but I like it.

I'm leaning more and more to the Neromenian Dreamers/early Tevinters being behind the murder of Mythal, which then sends the pantheon into utter chaos because the only other sane one with power is Fen'harel, but he lacks her authority.

I agree. Even on the elven reproduction issue, David Gaider has said it doesn't have to do with genetics (because people insisted on there being a scientific explanation), but was actually due to the magic inherent to the elves. Nothing wrong with the science theorycrafting, it's interesting, but Thedas is a fantasy world that literally has magic in the blood, and logical, scientific answers aren't likely to be the answer in many cases.

I definitely get the feeling that Solas's feelings on the Dwarf Empire go farther than seeing parallels to Arlathan's fall.

Crackpot theory about time travel: what if after whatever number of games planned in the current Thedas Bioware will use some kind of time travel to reset the setting? Through Solas creating alternating timeline or some other means. What if there will be alternate Thedas without Veil, elves as main ruling race, dwarves having magic, no Blight but Forgotten Ones or something else as the main antagonist, etc.?
>.> Ehh... I'd probably like to play such game tbh.

Exactly! <sarcasm>Any "Blah, blah, your cult is better than mine" relies on having different ideas present to rip apart.</sarcasm>
Seriously, there's no right or wrong, there's just different opinions and the world would be a horrible place if we installed one to be almighty. Whenever that has been tried, despite the lack of evidence to contradict the opposite, it only led to atrocities. At least in this thread, people are better than that.
