Crackpot theory about time travel: what if after whatever number of games planned in the current Thedas Bioware will use some kind of time travel to reset the setting? Through Solas creating alternating timeline or some other means. What if there will be alternate Thedas without Veil, elves as main ruling race, dwarves having magic, no Blight but Forgotten Ones or something else as the main antagonist, etc.?

>.> Ehh... I'd probably like to play such game tbh.

According to the multiverse theory such a universe already exists, BioWare just did not introduce it to us yet. But, please, do not put them on that track. They need a few years to develop a game and opening up yet another dimension would clash with my impatience. :)

I agree.  Even on the elven reproduction issue, David Gaider has said it doesn't have to do with genetics (because people insisted on there being a scientific explanation), but was actually due to the magic inherent to the elves.  Nothing wrong with the science theorycrafting, it's interesting, but Thedas is a fantasy world that literally has magic in the blood, and logical, scientific answers aren't likely to be the answer in many cases.

I'm going to go with... elves are more connected to the Fade. That makes them more "spirit-like" than other races. Spirits are heavily influenced by non-spirits and can easily change their nature when presented with particularly strong emotions or desires. Half-elf baby = responding to the stronger influence of the human parent, rather than elf? They're magical selves are more adaptable, especially as a child, than other mix races?

...I have no idea whether that's a good thing or not.  @w@   Did I lose you somewhere?

Delayed answer: not at all.

I just imagined the Maker orchestrating Can Can, it was marvelous :3

That's what I've been going with.  It also makes me wonder if the first elves were originally spirits who manifested like Cole (Maker's First Children?), or if they've always been something in-between.

I don't care for time travel either. Maybe in the sense of that person's post, they're not real until he fixes what's wrong. Not necessarily time travel? I don't know. I'm a dummy then cuz I wasn't thinking of it in a go back in time and change the world type of thing. I did like the perspective though of the realness in direct comparison to In Hushed Whispers. Does potentially add another perspective to why no one's real to Solas.

I think I am making not enough sense.

Yeah, as I said the other day it DOES make sense that the real world is a living nightmare to him and he sees it as a failed future. It's not what he intended, so I can see him going for a reset of sorts. Either by actual time travel or by a magical atom bomb. So he can rebuild the world as a place of freedom. Sacrifice the current enslaved population for the freedom of a future generation.
I get the appeal. I often wonder if it was best to just erase mankind and start over... if there was such a thing as a reset button I would be quite tempted to push it tbh. It wouldn't solve anything if course. Unless mankind was completely obliterated. Then there would be peace on earth. But where there are two people, there's conflict and it would all just start again. I hope Solas will realize that there is no perfect solution. I'd hate him to go crazy in the end. I want him to be a good guy. But man, this whole reset/time travel thing makes me nervous.

I woke up today pretty sure I'm getting sick, and all I could think of is if I get too sick for work I'm gonna stay in bed and chat on the thread all day.

Then being sick doesn't sound like it sucks too much.

Not sick enough to call off today though.

Sorry, pretty random here, but can someone try to explain to me what the heck Mythal is holding in her mural?

Mythal-_the_Great_Protector.png

Are those elves? Snakes? A very strange peacock tail?

I stared at it for a while and I realized this depicts Mythal being pregnant. You can see that by the size of her breasts and her big round tummy.

I have this mosaic in my Art of Inquisition book, I'm pretty sure she holds babies, they have these arches that look noses, perhaps they are covered with a vallaslin (or perhaps the white lower face is there to symbolize something else). Don't forget Mythal is the all-mother.

I always thought those were flowers, but now that you've said that, I can see them as babies.  Makes more sense, and really neat.  The white faces might simply be a design choice so the faces stand out.

You know..for a deity that is known to be the mother of the pantheon, the "You were a shitty mother" mother talk between morrigan and flemeth must have stung.

In this case, the white faces might signify divinity, like shining faces.  But yeah, this is kinda cute.

You know, there is something that I had been wondering about. Solas gives his orb to Corypheus apparently because his slumber made him too squishy to be able to activate it. But my question is, why he wanted to use the orb at all? As far as we know, this artifact only pourpose is to open rifts in the veil. Why Solas wanted to open rifts in the fade?

I think Solas just wanted his power back, for whatever he's trying to do.  There's probably more ways of using it than what we know.

Opening/closing rifts is not the orb's purpose, as far as I can tell. The Anchor - which is a "function" of the orb - allows you to do this, yes, but it also lets you, say, physically enter the Fade. Honestly? Atm, we can only try to guess what else the orb could do and what Solas wanted to use it for.

lol Merrill you're making a terrible case for yourself. Ok, I'll take Solas back, thanks for playing.

Yeah I liked Merrill but when I tried talking some sense into her back with the Eluvian business she was really hard to reason with. That would've driven Solas mad. At the very least it would be interesting to see them interact. I know she had some interesting views about the Eluvians but yeah her views about spirits and the Fade?

I've never understood this rationale. Hawke is a human who knows nothing about elven culture, the Dalish, or the Eluvians, while Merrill is someone who painstakingly put the time into studying the lore on the Eluvians and extrapolating information from the shard. Hawke is ignorant about this, while Merrill is informed, but people act like Merrill should simply fall in line to rivalry Hawke.

If anything, TME and Inquisition only proved Merrill right about how beneficial the Eluvians would be for the Elvhen, particularly as it's an asset that Briala used to get her elven network up and running against one of the strongest empires in Thedas. And the Inquisitor has an Eluvian in Skyhold, a gateway to the Crossroads.

As much as I liked having Solas as a friend, I really miss having a pro-Dalish character in Inquisition. It felt too biased in favor of the Andrastian mindset in many places (particularly when so many characters speak negatively about the Dalish, while the only person in the inner circle who can speak positively about them is my character), while we get a plethora of positive dialogue from our advisers, companions, and even minor characters about the Chantry or the Andrastian faith. Cassandra even talks with Lavellan about following the Maker, even when he's explicitly stated he follows his own gods, and she says the same to Solas. I don't really understand why it's so one-sided, which made it quite lonely and frustrating as Inquisitor Lavellan.

Given all the negativity towards the Dalish and the lack of coverage for the elves (particularly in the Dales, which is supposed to be predominantly elven, and yet focuses on human characters over elven characters), it would be nice if Solas heralded some positive coverage for the elves for a change when he returns. I'm a little tired of the Andrastian human bias thus far.

Don't quite see what you are getting at here. She basically shares the same beliefs that Solas does, that spirits and demons are pretty much one and the same.

Merrill problem wasn't that she wanted to restore the eluvians, but the methods she used to get there. Blood magic, deals with demon? That never ends well. Not to mention that Inquisition reveals that her pursuit is utterly pointless, without an key, she will never activate her Eluvian.

Plus, you know, a separate world close to the Fade where someone with enough power could cross over sounds like the perfect escape route for a demon.

You know, like the one she was listening to.

I feel like there are two general mindsets in DAI: "I believe in the Maker" and "I don't believe in any gods". And since my character believed in Dalish gods but not in the Maker, the game pretty much wrote her off as atheistic  <_<

I bet Morrigan thought mothers were supposed to be like Flemeth with "that's just how mothers are...Unpleasant, snarky old women". Then when becoming a mother herself and seeing other mothers in Orlais, she's like, "Well sh*t. My mother sucked".
