45% of that 68% were female or gay gamers who wanted ot romance Dorian. Fact.

I still haven't been able to play anything but f!Lavellan. I can't even play my Trevelyan anymore. I hate the rogue gameplay so I end up switching to Solas and controlling him instead.

I'm sure at least a bitty chunk of that is women who play men. My canon Hawke was male, after all!
I've thought about what I'm going to do next game. Not sure if I want to continue switching between male and female characters. I know, I know, it's ridiculous to already be thinking about DA4! But I have. Seriously. I keep wondering who the next protagonist will be and guessing at which companion will be the returning one and what kinds of companions we might have next game. I wonder if we'll finally get a female qunari companion...and I hope Maevaris shows up, she'd be an awesome companion!
And I really, really hopety hope that I don't have to fight Solas. Or at least not kill him. I would have to write a strongly worded letter to BioWare. That would have a lot of choice words in it. Words that would be censored on here. Okay maybe I wouldn't send it but I would sure think about sending it.

I don't play men in video games that I can play a woman on (personal) principal, but I was thinking of breaking my rule for Dorian.
I highly recommend him. ![]()

A big chunk of the pie is PC players and we got shafted so badly on the mechanics. /bitter

But then again, us evil console players don't get awesome screen shots or the ability to get mods. We also get **** on pretty consistently as being lowly casuals. You know how many times I'm considered less of a "gamer" because I choose go game on xbox?
Just sayin.

This is what I did. I keep taking breaks from my male Trevelyan but he was created purely so I could romance Dorian.
I hate how he turned out though CC tricks that work for female characters doesn't translate 100% to males.

I won't belabor it since it's off topic, but I don't think people who haven't experienced it understand how the terrible controls make the game very difficult to play. I'll be honest, the only thing that saves this game for me is Solavellan. It's testimony to how much I like Solas and the elven lore development that I'm still playing at all. It pretty much rules out playing anything else though, because I just can't put up with the tedium for a playthrough I only sort of enjoy. Also we don't get mods for this one, and screenshots are just as easy and just as pretty on the new consoles. This game will never have the legs that DAO does. I do still hope for good DLC to round out the experience. But then again, us evil console players don't get awesome screen shots or the ability to get mods. Just wanted to share this fic because it kind of depressed me. Which isn't rare for a Solas-related thing to do but I really like this and it's wonderfully written! It's Solas and Cole (not romantic).

Ok. So I don't want to make this into a huge debate, but I'm honestly curious about what people don't like about the PC controls. I'm ok with 99% of the default, and have only tweaked a few of keybinds. Is it the movement of the character itself that is imprecise with the controls, or something more related to how the hotkeys mesh with each other when you're trying to fight 4 bears and a Mabari at once?
I kind of feel like I'm in a minority whenever people talk about hating the controls for DAI, or really any other Bioware game. People never seem to expand on the reason other than "it's awful." :/

Hmm, I can totally get with the idea that the Forgotten Ones. It makes sense!
So, just out of idle curiosity... (please don't kill me.) I'm just wondering how the "default" became that Lavellan is basically a Daenerys Targeryen lookalike and is usually a mage... it seems the popular choice by a large margin in a lot of fan work I see and character choices...? It just seems so... singular.
*runs away and hides*
What? You mean the pale skin, silver hair, and pale eyes? ![]()
Yeah, that is pretty common. I can't speak for anyone else, but I don't do it to have my characters channel Danaerys. I grew up watching and reading The Last Unicorn, and was enchanted by the Lady Amalthea; a unicorn magically turned into a human woman, who retains her pale white skin, moon-white hair, and lavender eyes.
Then a few years I fell in love with an animated movie called The Secret of Kells. More specifically, the character Aisling, a pale, white-haired, green-eyed fairy who lives in the forest, befriends a church boy named Brendon, and who inspires him to write the Book of Kells by showing him the wonders of her forest.
Since Amalthea and Aisling both have magic associated with the silver-white moon and morning mist, I thought I pictured my Lavellan specializing in storm and winter magic. Hm, a mage with winter magic... who does that remind us of?
I just I just have a thing for pale magical girls with cold-based magic. I've never actually created a character like that before, so when I saw the CC gave the option to create a character with pale skin and pure why hair (down to the eyelashes!) I thought, "This is too good to pass up!" Now that I've gotten it out of my system, I won't likely do it again.
So, long story short: I my highly unoriginal Lavellan was inspired by Aisling from The Secret of Kells, not Daenerys from A Song of Fire and Ice.

I actually usually buy the game for pc as well as xbox, and there really isn't any way to get screen shots on the Xbox one. And you don't have mods yet, but you will. I have faith in computer people to break into anything.
In any case Im not saying you have it great, I know you dont. I'm simply saying console players get a fair share of abuse in response to something that isn't at all our fault.
Hopefully they fix your issues soon. When I play, I'll play with a controller. Pc controls are always clunky to me.

They were awkward and atrocious - I have nothing to add. I literally tried - within 5 min. I was like - 'welp this was clearly built with a gamepad in mind'. I was hoping for similar controls like in DA:O and DA2 - click to run - more hotkeys. I really could only play the game and enjoy it once I plugged in an x-box controller. This is fine. I play a lot of games on PC with the gamepad and it's fine - like 'most amazing action game ever 'shadow of mordor is UNPLAYABLE on PC without the controller.
Though I do understand people prefer to use the keyboard so I wish BW would do more to fix this.

I'm not as enamored with DA:I as I was with DA:O - that game came out of nowhere and just swept me off my feet with everything it did. I loved the story, the quests, the characters. I like DA:I and will definitely buy expansions/DLCs. It's just easy to sink into. Kind of like taking a long bath, or sitting in a big pile of blankets on a weekend watching tv. It requires little to no thought. It's not really emotionally taxing - which is fine. I can get swept up in the romance - which is what I believe you were saying - the Solavellan thing is really keeping me wanting more. And you're probably right. I would probably also not care much about the game if that wasn't in there. And again, I will likely need some good DLC to round this baby out in order to have the desire to revisit it again in a few years.

We're more than likely in the minority. I have not had any issues either. I play a lot of MMOs and other PC games that use similar configurations. It felt fine to me. I don't know if it's because I play with one of those gaming mice for MMOs and that's what makes the difference. I just chalk it up to different play styles. I haven't been much of a console gamer for years now, so playing on a controller doesn't appeal to me. I haven't changed any of the key bindings. But yeah I don't want a debate either. Just wanted to say you're not alone.
Those that hate the configuration for PC I hope they give you some options that make the game better for you.

Bah. I'm a male gamer. I burned through five male inquisitors. Only beat the game with one of those, only really spent real time with two. Now playing a female Lavellan for PLOT! points. Given the throwaway nature of an Inquisitor character, I don't take these statistics seriously. Show me hours played as male or female and I'll give it more attention.

They're slow, clunky, awkward, and unresponsive. Just getting the character to move was a pain. I click "W" to get the character to move forward, nothing happens for a second, then the character slowly inches forward and gains momentum. Then I remove my finger from "W" and the character keeps moving same as before, then slows down, then stops. And it was like this for all keyboard commands. When I tried to move left, the character didn't move left for a while. When I moved right then thought better of it and tried to abort, the character kept moving right after my finger left the button and I would crash into a wall, a person, fall over a ledge, etc. All of them. Every time. And that's if they responded at all. Often they didn't.
I would never underestimate smoothness or fluidity. My beau let me borrow his gamepad, and having the game respond to my slightest touch is so much easier and more relaxing. The difference is so great I almost want to cry from relief. ![]()
You know how time flies when you're having fun, especially with gaming? You play for what feels like twenty minutes, then you look at the clock and say, "Wow, it's been four hours already?!" I NEVER had this happen with DAI PC controls. Since the controls were so frustrating, I was constantly aware of the passage of time. I constantly felt like however long I was playing was how long I was playing. "It feels like it's been 20 minutes since the last time I saved. What time is it? Yup, it's been 20 minutes." "The game says I've been playing for 80 hours... *reflects* Yup, it feels like it's been 80 hours.
"
The key commands were also awkwardly placed. People who've played previous Dragon Age are used to certain keys having certain outcomes. For example, the spacebar. In previous BioWare games, press the spacebar to pause. Now, it makes you jump. It took at least a dozen hours to get used to "Click Ctrl to pause, not jump!" Playing DAO right before DAI? DAO's mouse+keyboard gameplay just felt smooth and fluid. DAI's just don't. ![]()
