It's kind of fun replaying the game because every time I pass a wolf statue when Solas is in my party I make my Quizz turns towards him like "Dude, you're kind of a rockstar for elves".

Bioware Devs make me write fanfic, force me to download video editing software, and learn how to make gifs...

(It's my first gif yall! Everything is about to get really sad over here!)

I doubt I will ever romance Solas but I can see the feelz people are talking about (and knowing he will leave after). Your elf is really cute.

My wolf-god can devour me any time.

The card representing my Lavellan is the stag since she's a mage, but I say she's a hart. Strong, fierce when she needs to be, and has endured.

Hmm, I can totally get with the idea that the Forgotten Ones. It makes sense!

So, just out of idle curiosity... (please don't kill me.) I'm just wondering how the "default" became that Lavellan is basically a Daenerys Targeryen lookalike and is usually a mage... it seems the popular choice by a large margin in a lot of fan work I see and character choices...? It just seems so... singular.

*runs away and hides*

Haha, I had noticed that the combination of light skin + pale hair was quite popular. First lavellan I tried making was a redhead, but I found I didn't like the way the colour worked with the hair texture (among other things, I was still getting used to the CC) so I went back and decided to try making a Lavellan that sort of resembled the female elf tarot card. And I ended up really liking the CC's very pale blonde hair colour. Plus, my Surana had light skin and dark hair, my Aeducan had light hair and dark skin, so I decided to stick with light skin and light hair for my Lavellan. I'm not the hugest fan of white hair on young characters (though for some reason it really worked with my Aeducan, probably because she was as ethereal as a kidney stone), because the magical waif trope isn't a good fit for how I play my Bioware protagonists. Even my Surana, the waifiest of the lot, was more of a nosy overachiever.

This is how my Lavellan turned out:

Spoiler

The eye colour was more of a calculated choice. I always knew I wanted to give her "fade-coloured" eyes, to match the whole green motif that the Inquisitor has going on.

She's not much of a Halla, and I can't say that symbolism ever really entered into my mind when I made her. She is a mage, though. But the reason for that is that I just love mages. My first character in any DA game is a mage. I love the lore surrounding mages and magic and spirits to pass up a direct connection like that.

Aren't they? I adore bird motifs for characters, especially when it fits well. There's always that period of time at the beginning of the game where you're trying to figure out what the character is like, but this sort of swooped down onto my Lavellan quickly. Swooping, in a good way of course.  ^_^ The imagery of the wolf (Solas, of course) with a raven resonates with me too, since these animals have a fascinating relationship in the wild.

The raven and the wolf connection is interesting, and one I haven't made. The wolf, raven, and eagle are traditional "beasts of battle" in Old English and Eddic literature. They auger war, accompany the warriors, and feast on the bodies of the fallen. You see the beasts of battle motif in Beowulf and the Battle of Maldon before key battle scenes. And since someone mentioned the wonderful Book of Kells, they are there before the Norse invaders land and sack Lindesfarne (and make me cry about lost manuscripts).

Note: I am not purporting any connection with the motif to the game, yet it is interesting.

Another note: After the "In Your Heart," in the blizzard scene, I heard the wolves and thought things were going to get real bad. But, in hindsight, they signaled something different.

It makes me wonder what's up with this stone tablet. This is the Statue of Fen'Harel in the Temple of Mythal. Check out the vallaslin-esque design:

Also, have a vallaslin-less Mikayla (finally). Broke her heart yesterday, so weeeeeeeeeeeeee...

It looks fairly similar to the various Kirkwall (and Kirkwall organizations) Heraldry in DA:2 to me, but upside down.  There are many variations on those.  Not sure of the (lore) origins of the Kirkwall Heraldry though.  Could just be accidental similarities.

The origins of the Kirwall heraldry is that the elven slaves in Emerius (Kirkwall) used it as a symbol for their rebellion and the slaves in general made it the heraldry of Kirwall as a 'Never again' statement.

And Solas has it on a letter in his quarters.

So I think it's fair to say that the elves pre-Dales didn't vilify Fen'harel, or at least they remembered what his sign meant. :)

I dunno about you guys, but the more I listen to Solas freak out about the wardens, the more I feel that 7 archdemons = 9 elven gods - mythal (who was murdered) and fen'harel. It just seems like too convenient a number now that we know mythal was out of the picture pre-sealing away. The way Solas dodges with "nothing in lore connects elves to old gods" actually makes me MORE certain rather than mollified, cause that dude is waaay too clever at obfuscating without outright lying. I don't think the dragons are actually the gods, but those dev notes make it pretty clear that mythal can separate her raw power from her "divinity". Maybe the dragons are the storage for the power, but Fen'harel locked the divinity (true self, personality, will) in eluvians? Cole explicitly says that they sleep "masked in a mirror" which sounds oddly specific instead of his usual word salad. To add more weirdness, Andruil is noted for having been corrupted by a power from the void (and having armor that suspiciously sounds like red lyrium, which is blighted).

So, I have a couple of theories:

1. Solas is working to prevent the pantheon from coming back. He doesn't want the GW to kill the archdemons because killing the dragons releases the god powers back into the fade (which the eluvians are connected to in some twisty way).

2. Solas is working to bring the pantheon back (out of misplaced guilt and desperation) and doesn't want the GW to kill the archdemons because the god powers are destroyed by the GW, who dies.

3. By killing the archdemons, the darkspawn horde becomes directionless and swarms the deep roads and/or surface a la the Lich King in World of Warcraft.

4. The dragons are propping up something else entirely (as a species they are blight resistant) that will cause another catastrophe should they die.

OR MOST LIKELY I'M A CRAZY PERSON WHO COPES WITH THE BREAKUP BY INSANE THEORYCRAFTING AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHH HOLD MEEEEEEEE!

Seriously, this game really threw me with the "everything you knew about lore has the potential to be wrong" theme they went for. It makes me crazy, since every time I think I'm onto something I have to remind myself "Well, that's what we THINK we know. Who knows if it's the truth?"

Also, I quit my cullenmance. He's just too niiiiice. I don't want Prince Charming, I want Prince Intellectual Debate.

Or perhaps they didn't remember that it was a sign relating to Fen'harel, but simply knew it as a symbol of rebellion. The kernel of truth being that Fen'harel once upon a time represented rebellion, but that information was lost to time.

We know why Morrigan wanted to preserve the Old God soul, but not why Flemythal wanted to.

I like the theory someone's had that the Dark Ritual purifies the essence of the Old God/Blight tainted pantheon member, and Flemeth is gathering their power.

I don't think Solas wants to release the pantheon. But it's really weird how much he disapproves of the Wardens killing the archdemons. What else does he expect them to do? Put it in the corner and force it to wear the cone of shame? It might be misplaced guilt if he helped cause that whole situation in the first place.

Gah. I'm still stuck on the Emerald Grave tombs.

EDIT: I'm struggling with posting the image, so I'll just have the source and the image be the same thing. :P

With all the Warden-talk around.

How well would your Warden and Quizzy get along? (Ignore question if you play self inserts ;))

And how would your Warden react to Solas or vice versa? (So the post is at least somewhat on topic!)

Edit: You can of course also ignore the questions altogether, that works too  :P

AND I hope the use of "vice versa" is correct in the second one ^^

Late response is late but here are my answers using my canon Warden, Mahariel, while I try to catch up with this thread (again).

Warden Mahariel and Inquisitor Lavellan

I always thought that they would like each other just fine since their personalities are almost similar. I imagine my Lavellan might get a little starstruck if she met my Warden. My Lavellan is around 5 to 10 years younger than my Mahariel so I imagined she grew up hearing stories of the Dalish Warden who defeated the Archdemon in Ferelden and in turn, fueled my Lavellan's desire for adventure outside of the clan. Mahariel, in turn, would probably eventually see Lavellan as a little sister of sorts. She would, however, be curious on Lavellan's lack of vallaslin. :P

Warden Mahariel and Solas

I'm not sure if they would really like each other very much. My Mahariel is a proud Dalish (and takes her duties as Grey Warden Commander seriously) and while both she and Lavellan are the diplomatic and open-minded types, my Mahariel has low tolerance for people talking badly about her people. On Solas' part, I'm not sure he'd appreciate Mahariel's Dalishness and the fact that she's a Grey Warden. My Mahariel sort of has that "whatever it takes" attitude that Solas dislikes about the Wardens. She's done some questionable things like agreeing to Morrigan's Dark Ritual, letting the Architect live, and drinking Avernus' potion to gain the Power of Blood...

Yeah, they're definitely NOT going to get along.

Fox totem for my Inquisitor. I love the idea of her being sort of a different kind of trickster. No where near as powerful as a wolf [most of the time], but still cunning, and small enough that she might slip past notice of others.

As for the grey wardens- it seems like so many people are converging on top of them. That can't be accidental. So one way or another, Solas's plans probably do have some sort of crossover with what is going on beneath the surface. Hopefully we don't need to wait until the next game to figure out what it is.

I like the idea that Solas had something to do with that. Extra cool being Lavellan and wolves being seen as the guardians of the People.

 In Your Heart Shall Burn.

Speaking of titles taken from the Chant of Light, I noticed something curious. Maybe it's just similar imagery, because, y'know, it's good imagery.

But maybe it's something more. http://dragonage.wik...of_Light_Verses

Canticle of Silence:

The Old Gods will call to you,

From their ancient prisons they will sing.

Dragons with wicked eyes and wicked hearts,

On blacken'd wings does deceit take flight,

The first of My Children, lost to night.-Silence 3:6, Dissonant Verse. Attributed to Archon Hessarian.

Song to Falon'din

The People swore their lives to Falon'Din

Who mastered the dark that lies.

Whose shadows hunger

Whose faithful sing

Whose wings of death surround him

Thick as night.

Lethanavir, master-scryer, be our guide,

Through shapeless worlds and airless skies.

First, Falon'din sounds like Lusacan, and they both sound like scary-ass gods/Archdemons.

Whose faithful sing?

Who mastered the dark that lies? The Fade? The 'shapeless worlds and airless skies' sounds like the Fade, too. The 'First of my Children, lost to night' is also very interesting. I guess Hessarian believed that the Old Gods were just the First Among Spirits that took the form of dragons, much like some of us have theorized that the Pantheon were the First Spirits who took the form of elves and dragons?

<_< Hmm.

The association with Dirthamen is the reason why I didn't pick the raven as my Lavellan's motif.  She's got a Sherlockian compulsion to truth, and worse, she can't keep it to herself.  And while she's not entirely right, keeping secrets does seem to cause a lot more harm than good in Thedas.

Also, because starlings are awesome and under-appreciated.  And Leliana's already covered in ravens.

It did make me think about what my second Inquisitor would be (under spoiler tags so no one has to hear me gush over Adaar)

Spoiler

EDIT: That and as I've played the game, seen all the dang owls, and had them appear pretty much everywhere the Inquisition and thereby the Inquisitor touches, it felt like an excellent fit. Moreover, with her relationship with Solas - they're both predators. They just function incredibly differently. Solas is a wolf away from his pack and its eating away at him. Lavellan took the leap to hunt away from her pack (ie her Clan) and found the flight incredibly freeing. By him being bound to the earth, and her bound to the skies, it spoke to how they approach the future as well. He can't leave the past that grounded him in guilt and grief, whereas she's all about breaking bounds and forging her own path. His grounded nature appeals to her and her freedom deeply appeals to him. Whether or not they can find a path together down the road is something else altogether. (Here's looking at you, WEEKES).

Why am I out of likes again.  So much this.
