When I was trying out my Trevelyan last time, I noticed this too. It was so sweet and actually rather unexpected as I'd gotten used to the companions kind of just standing back during conversations. If I'm not wrong, wasn't the refugee an elf as well?

I didn't notice the ears, so maybe? I'll keep an eye out on the next play through.   I also enjoy it when the companions move around a bit more. Even at Skyhold it's nice to see Cass training or Solas looking over his notes or the murals.

 

 

Speaking of Solas's murals, I got a closer look at the one he paints after Adamant:

I always thought of the Fade as one area separated from physical reality by the Veil, but the way Solas paints it, the Fade seems more like layers. Some of the circles look like bricks, which makes me think of walls. The silhouette of the Black City is at the center, which makes sense since it's visible from everywhere in the Fade.

 

I'm probably just taking his artistic representation too literally, but I found the layer idea kind of interesting.

Hmm, if the Old Gods are also the Elven Gods, wouldn't Solas be even More upset at the wardens? Unless he really hated the other gods, you would think that he would try his best to prevent them from killing the would be archdemons. Maybe the souls of the Old Gods didn't really die when the archdemon is slain. Maybe it disappears back into the fade in a powerless form because it doesn't have a physical body. Maybe the dark ritual is only good for gaining control over the Old God soul and keeping it in a body where you can use it and not so much for keeping the soul alive.

We know why Morrigan wanted to preserve the Old God soul, but not why Flemythal wanted to.

I like the theory someone's had that the Dark Ritual purifies the essence of the Old God/Blight tainted pantheon member, and Flemeth is gathering their power.

I don't think Solas wants to release the pantheon. But it's really weird how much he disapproves of the Wardens killing the archdemons. What else does he expect them to do? Put it in the corner and force it to wear the cone of shame? It might be misplaced guilt if he helped cause that whole situation in the first place.

Gah. I'm still stuck on the Emerald Grave tombs.

I had a very scary thought. 

 

Theory 5: Solas is gathering all the god-powers to himself (by absorbing mythal + the 2 dragons still living) so he can casually reshape reality. That's why he tells Lavellan "In another world". He's literally going to remake the world into a better place (which is kind of romantic in a SERIOUSLY WTF??? kind of way). 

 

EDIT: of course, he was counting on regaining his orb, which is now broken aaaaaarrrgh I need DLC NAO!

After previous comments about the legend of Elgar'nan and shaking the Sun's blood to twinkle in the sky (A 'Just So' story for the stars, and a pretty cool one at that) and how it might be connected to the Blight, I can't help but notice what's around the Black City.
And I think it's entirely proper for us to go all art critic on Solas.

They put that art in for a reason. It lets us get in his head a little, and pick up little details. I just suck at art, so I'm encouraging the rest of you to step up.

Mine's a wolf, white because of the hair, that it matches Solas' romance card is just happy coincidence because I was thinking of the Lady of the Forest/Witherfang's dual nature, cunning but loving and hunts in a pack when I created her.

I thought it interesting that his Vallaslin was always moving around and she never spoke of what God it was to...I wonder if it had some kind of magic there that kept her from focusing on it or paying much attention.

I think he's something like Abelas. Not Dalish, but a servant of one of the old gods. I like to think he was a buddy of Fen'Harel's back in the day. And yeah, like Abelas. But he strikes me less as the dour Temple Sentinel type and more a freewheeling agent.

If it wasn't for Fen'Harel's hatred for slavery, I'd say he was one of Fen'Harel's priests.

...Even taking into account Fen'Harel's hatred for slavery, I'm going to say that he's one of Fen'Harel's old priests/magical theory discussion buddies, and that the vallaslin is fake.

Yeah, that was a great scene.  Briala knows he's lying about being Dalish, and he's obviously deciding whether or not he's going to kill her to save his plan, or throw everything away for her sake...  That part where he walks behind her, and she knows he's right up next to her because his ambient magic is around her...intense stuff.  I don't think his vallaslin actually moved, I think it was just descriptive talk for his face moving, like when he smiles.  Curling around the eyes, much like the Mythal vallaslin does.  (Which is why I still wonder if he might have been one of the Sentinels, if not from among Fen'Harel's rebels originally.)

How do you go about doing it?

 

First, you find an artist whose design you like. I go to NeedlesslyCryptic, she's awesome - she drew my Saints Row girl. Browse their commission prices and what they offer, and message them to see if their commissions are open. If they're not, and plan on opening again soon, request to be put on a waiting list. 

 

Make sure you have a lot of refs. I messaged her several pictures of Terrwyn from different angles, and zoomed in on her scars. I wanted her armor to look a certain way, so I also messaged this:

Be detailed, and they'll ask questions, but also be willing to compromise. Recently I messaged Cryptic a ref on how I want to Terrwyn to stand; she requested if she could make her own stance because she is more comfortable that way, and I agreed. Give the artist room to breathe.

 

From my experience, most artists use paypal.
