Cullen was totally adorable too. The whole scene in the Chantry in Skyhold where he doesn't want to send you back out to face Corypheus gets me every time. I think though, despite the heartbreak, Solas felt more 'real'. Maybe it was all the time spent asking questions about the Fade and whatnot, but I felt much more in tune to his moods. I admit though, The Ironbull romance cracks me up and will always be something of a favorite.
That's the beautiful thing about how these games are designed. We, as the players, can create a character, choose it's dialogue choices (in effect, cementing them as a certain "type" of person), and then head-canon all the little intricacies about them, how they interact with others, who they connect with, the backstory to why they do what they do, etc, etc, etc.
My Levellan, for me, felt INTEGRAL to the main story and to Solas. There is something more there, all the layers, like a delicious Thedas-lore cheesecake. But, I have made a second Levellan, and her attitude is different from my canon one, and so she's going to relate differently to the store, even though she's Dalish like the last one I made, I just... there's just... SO MUCH ONE CAN PUT INTO THIS.
Each romance for me, is special in it's own right, even if we don't like all the details or outcomes, because these characters are created with very human flaws, the same ones we deal with regularly in real life, no one is perfect, and people do really shi**y things for what seem like "good" reasons. That's just it, though! They are HUMAN decisions, imperfect at their core; even with the best intentions, there can be huge oversights-and catastrophic repercussions. Choosing to link your character to one of these creatures just adds dimension to your experience, and to your own imagination.
... does any of that make sense? Or should I lay off the coffee for the rest of the day?
