Did your Lavellan go through a personality change at all during their Inquisition time? Were they stoic from start to finish? Or did something happen along the way that made you change the way you played?

 

SOMEONE ASKED. SOMEONE FINALLY ASKED. You have no idea how long I've been waiting for this well-prepared head-canon to be relevant on this thread.

 

 

*cracks knuckles* My Lavellan was the 'flat-ear' of her clan, I figure she'd have to be since she's one of the few Dalish that doesn't know how to use a bow and arrow XD Lavellan's clan was fairly tolerant of humans, so as far as clans go her's was a bit more open-minded, but I think she was still treated like she's a bit crazy for being so 'not-Dalish'. Because of that, I didn't ever make her take herself seriously or feel that she's important throughout the first part of the game. If there's ever a 'confused', sarcastic, or 'ask someone else what they think' option, I usually took it.

 

Then, clan Lavellan basically got disbanded and destroyed by Bandits (WHY JOSEPHINE, WHHHY) and that made her sense of leadership even worse XD I chose more 'elf-related' options and had her kind of cling to her heritage. She went through a stage of being unsure and really sad all the time. As the game progressed though, knowing Solas and Sera made her treat herself more like a person and less like a 'Dalish who failed her people'. She still didn't like making decisions or acting like leader, but she was a little more self-aware.

 

It's funny though, the biggest change in my Lavellan character came towards the end of the game, and it wasn't even a choice type thing. It was more like I justified what happened in the cinematic event with dialogue that had happened before. After Morrigan took the well's power in 'What Pride Had Wrought', Solas asked what Lavellan intended to do with it. It was a really important conversation to me, because after I said that I would want my friends to guide me and such, he explained that although its a modest and noble ideal, good people need to take responsibility for power because if they don't the bad guys will ( or something along those lines?... man, I wish that I could find this conversation somewhere, because I'm really bad at explaining this type of thing and I make Solas sound so immature XD) Anyways, Lavellan really took that to heart. I feel that explains the whole 'grab the orb and seal the breach ultimately destroying the orb but saving the day' thing. She knew what had to be done, and instead of being scared of that power and making the wrong choice, she did what she had to do. Then of course Solas got upset and left, so... after that she just went crazy. The end. lol

In one of the recent videos posted here, he has this beautiful silver outfit on that I need to find (anyone know where to find?) I'm also a fan of him in the red elven robes and the inquisitor hat, it's kinda dashing. But really, he can wear pretty much anything as long as he's talking about fadey things with that little grin

Speaking of the fear demon... does anyone know what Solas says after the fear demon talks to him... or even what the demon says? iirc the demon talked in elvish too.

There was a translation around the 1900 mark on here, but I think It says something like. Your pride has failed you, And he replies something like nothing is ever failed, Or nothing cannot be undone?.. doing a word search on here or youtube might help?

 . What did Nightmare say to Solas in the Fade?

A. It said, 'Dirth ma, harellan. Ma banal enasalin. Mar solas ena mar din.' Solas replied, 'Banal nadas'.

 

Q. What does that mean?

A. 'Dirth' = tell/speak. 'Ma' = me/mine. 'Harellan' = trickster, basically. So that part means Tell me, trickster or Speak, trickster. (etc).

'Banal' = nothing and 'nadas' = inevitable, so Solas basically responds with, Nothing is inevitable.

The last part of Nightmare's line (Ma banal enasalin. Mar solas ena mar din) is where it gets complicated. Ma = me/mine, banal = nothing, enasalin = victory. I don't know what mar is but suspect it is related to ma. Solas=pride/to stand tall, though of course it could be his name in this context. Ena = appear/emerge, din = not/isn't (also used to mean someone that has died and is no more). Put together that lot is anyone's guess. There are several interpretations of what it could all mean floating around the internet and they're all valid guesses. Patrick Weekes recently tweeted that he'd look into giving us a translation for this, providing it does not spoil future storylines of course.

Somebody has responded below - but yeah it's still unsure. PW was supposed to be looking into getting us a firm translation - alot of those words have various meanings so it's kind of unclear. He was checking to see though if a firm translation would be too spoilery.

Jump in, poke around.   ^w^   They seem to have pretty decent video tutorials, so bonus.  If you don't see any editing options, click the tiny gray box on the top right of the screen that looks like a divided square.  Seems to be a toggle to display / hide editing controls.

I saw a recent tweet where he responded that it was a spoiler. Although its hard to tell if he thought the person hadn't beaten the game, or if the dialogue legitimately is a spoiler for future things.

I mean we have a gist of what it is says and it only seems to spoil the ending of DA:I - so if you haven't played it then yeah.  But for most people then no - not a spoiler. I wish they would release a more solid codex on elven language at least.

Yeah, going with spoiler for the ending of DA:I. All It seems to do is call him "trickster" and say he did a bad, and Solas just goes "Lol but I can fix it" or something. Nothing really in-depth regarding possible games.

Almost finished with elven codex entries. Navigating through DA wiki is... not easy. Will try to make a nice doc, with an interactive table of contents, and upload it. If it'll be useful, I'll do the same with other codexes as well

Anyone see someone mention how clever It was that the quest involving Mythal/the elven people is called What Pride Wrought? Solas = Pride.

Well, the reason I say spoiler was because Weekes said that he would check what was written on the office board, and release it only if it wasn't a spoiler. I don't know if the writers are really using a direct translation just from the text. It could be that he just forgot about it. Or it could be that their intended translation is completely different from what we've come up with.
