I would love to see a dragon age game where we start as a kid. Well, young teen, maybe a little bit older than Kieran. Old enough to be an apprentice at some craft. Maybe at some castle somewhere, and your race determines what exactly your standing is there. If Kieran exists, you get an extra bonus 'party' member along with whatever other kids you have.
Eventually there would be a time skip and you'd continue the story as adults. But I always thought it'd be cool to have a dragon age game where you could tell sort of the story that DAII wanted to tell [progression of an area over time], but with more of dramatic character changes.
Catchin up a li'l. Saw this.
I had a similar thought when considering how DA4 with a new protag would be feasible with how big and important the inquisition is. One of the ideas that popped in my head was that maybe you could play as a child who was born or brought to Skyhold during the inquisition's formation. You witnessed all this stuff happening and were there for the big world changing Thing that Solas is probably going to do.
You would have met Kieran if he existed and since he's like, the only other child in Thedas at the time, you become besties. He probably creeped you out with his old god dreams, and maybe you had to help him with his studies, but that's ok because you were good at spotting frogs and butterflies in the garden to play with, and he knew how to get into a sure-to-be-relevant-later area of the keep where the two of you would defy your curfew and pretend to be members of Leliana's spy network, or Cullen's army, or Josie's diplomatic entourage. I figured you could even establish your kid-protag's relationship to the inner circle by interacting with them.
"I pinched extra sugar from the kitchen for your disgusting tea, Uncle Solas! Please tell me another fade story now? I want one with Griffons in it!"
And, since there are combat oriented folk there of all sort, you'd eventually be trained for battle. By the time you're an adult, the inquisition's influence has waned, the Thing has happened and the world is still reeling. Time to be a big damn hero.
The biggest argument I had against this idea (yes, I was arguing with myself, don't judge!) was that the Inquisitor is too important. Devs may feel the need to have them dealt with during the time jump to prevent weirdness, and I don't like how they have dealt with our past game protags so far. I mean, I was ok with my warden codex entry. Ish. Definitely not ok with what happened to Hawke.
Anyway, out of all the other ideas that came to mind, I do like this one best.
