He has less content in general than the other companions.  It's not just romance content.  It's also easy to burn through all of his conversations not long after getting to Skyhold.  I always make the same mistake with Dorian as well.  I really need to stop talking to Dorian so much, long before midway he has nothing left for me, once his personal quest is finished.  

 

I think the biggest culprit in causing confusion is the assumption that all of the companions have equal amounts of content and dialogue.

 

In regards to Solas, I think it's deliberate.  Whether you romance him or not, in light of the reveal of his identity, they might have decided to hold back on letting the players know too much.  Plus people already feel like they were betrayed and he was just lying and manipulating the Inquisitor.  More content might have made that reaction even more strong.  

 

It sucks, I know.  Especially if you like Solas.  And I like Solas.  Not because of only the romance, I just enjoy the character in general.  The lack of a repeatable fluff scene doesn't bother me too much.  I know that if I want a romance that has more of that there's multiple options in the game.  Cullen's romance was very satisfying in that regard.  I haven't finished Iron Bull's romance yet, but I like that one too.  I like variety, and when you make everything equal for every character so that it's fair and even, I dunno it doesn't always work as well as you think it would.  The Solas romance isn't for everyone.  I know there are folks that look at us that repeatedly choose Solas for LI like we're nuts.  Why on earth would you go back again and romance the guy that ruins your face and leaves you?  He has less content and no fluff scene, gross what a terrible romance!  I know right, we must be off our meds!  Yikes that paragraph got away from me, sorry.

No worries, not offended!  We all have our preferences, and that's great.  Would never be bothered by someone preferring one romance to another.

 

I think I would feel differently about the Solas romance if I hadn't done it first, to be honest.  Don't get me wrong, I really do wish we could have had at least one more scene.  Or not had most of the romance scenes also be part of scenes everyone gets.  I know he was added late as a romance in that year they pushed the game back.  So I try to keep that in mind so I don't let my disappointment go too far.

Easy way to get around this, it's a war table tied cutscene, so wait until after the breakup.

 

Then you can canon that the gang took you out for drinks to cheer you up after getting dumped.

(way to ask the hard questions bro) and I said I'd have to wait until the end of the game just in case. Weeeell, I finish the game, and as the credits are rolling a tears are pouring down my face I manage to wail "I CHOOSE SOLAS *sob*" and he looks at me like I'm crazy XD "But he dumped you!". Eh. I think the twilight thing is funny. We have made jokes on here relating to it. I can see the perspective of people who make some parallels for twilight. I may not have read the books and only watched one movie. People say twilight because it's one of the most notable cases of "Powerful Being falling for a Mortal" in pop culture. In twilight, edward at the beginning tried to keep vampire thing a secret and sucked at it. He watches bella while she sleeps just like Solas watching you while you sleep when studying the ancher. Edward always pushes Bella away because of the danger he could cause, just as Solas wanted to push Lavellan away. Edward is immortal and acts like from a different time, Solas is immortal and also acts like he's from a different time.

 

And yes, the racist fade nerd is pretty close, though prejudice is closer. And those things you pointed out? Not important if you didn't romanced him. It's as big of a deal as Cassandra fans fawning over her being a Divine. 

 

Also I think Alistair is lame at jokes and whines alot. Zevran rules.

 

Oh, no. No, no, no. I reject any Twilight comparison. While there are vague similarities, there is no real basis for comparing them - the meaning, the implications, the tangibility of the components of the romance are all absent from Twilight. You'd have to dig so far back into the brick and mortar that the essence would be utterly obsolete by the time you get there. Twilight is using a particular framework that thousands upon thousands of romance tales over the ages have used, yet that does not make them all equal, far from it; the real difference is always in the core substance of the story, the sojourn it takes you on - is there something more to it? Does it have a message? Does it evoke more than surface emotions, impressions? Is there a complexity in the characters that is completely independent of their romantic journey?

I grew up with girls liking twilight to the point of obsession. "Watch the movie" they say,  "It's not just romance, there's action" they say. I try my best to make light of it by liking the opposite of what they like. Go team Werewolves-who-aren't-real-werewolves-but-are-Native-American-Shapeshifters-that-can-only-shapeshift-into-wolves. 

 

The "what we do in the shadows" was a pretty good and close to accurate mockumentary of vampires and werewolves.

Actually, when looking at those "full .... romance/content" videos on YouTube, Solas gets more than an hour (65 min or the like), while the others have less screen time. Cullen only adds up to 40 minutes or something. He has all those Fade stories and so on. He contributes more than others in missions if you take him along.

Anyway, there is the lack of a kissing/hugging cutscene, but maybe that was intentional? Like keeping a little barrier to stress his seclusion and reticence (and maybe to limit pain when the final break up scene hits)? Also, it might have felt weird to trigger that scene a few times and then have him break up with you, even more abruptly than he does already.

When I first saw it I was all "HOLY CRAP DLC???", like maybe Solas left that for the Inquisitor post-ending? So naturally I clocked back on my earliest save to confirm. Alas, it's been sitting in that bucket ever since you got to Skyhold. Still, it's interesting that he has it at all. What do you think it is? What do you think it means?

It *could* be a document that he updates as the relationship progresses... I.e. "all the things I can't tell you" written in some flowery cipher that he plans to give you the key to once he's about ready to leave, with instructions in case he fails, you're a backup. But also in romance he'd say all that he cannot allow himself to now.

Far as I know it's a dragon. I can't tell you where I read that, though it's sure looked like a dragon to me ever since. So I have been wearing it around my neck believing it was a dragon for ... awhile now.
