I think it's because of his concept arts in the art book.

Just curious, why do people assume Solas had long hair even as a younger man?

It's mostly due to the concept arts of him that has dreads in various styles. At this point, most people tend to headcanon it as that's how he looked when he was younger, hot-blooded, and cocky.

Okay the first thing I see when I come to see this thread is Solas' ass... no bad.. dat butt *slaps Solas' butt*
Solas: ò.O''  * Turns around rubbing his butt. * what the heck are you doing!?
* Slaps his butt again. *
Solas: Ò.Ó'''
*Big grin.*

When Terrwyn is about to publicly confront Florianne about Celene's assassination, she smacks Solas on the ass and his eyes just about jump out of his head he's so shocked. She's an ass girl. XD

x33 I will make more of them<3 I am sorry<3

I think The Scientist is my favorite of yours so far. I think I suggested that song at some point, I can't remember. I just have that song on my own playlist and think of it when I play through the romance. T_T

Solas with hair is just... nope. Not seen a single "improvement" that actually improves on him. I think the designers got him just right.

I like it, but I prefer Solas bald definitely. That's just Solas to me. Plus, bald heads make excellent hand warmers. Downside, nothing to grab onto during sex (but the phrase "take the Dread Wolf by the ear" has a whole new meaning.)

But the artists said they were trying out different looks and decided against all of those.

Interesting. It doesn't list the number of magisters EITHER...

I'm fifty pages behind. I think I found my source.  Forgive me if this has already been settled.

Corypheus's Codex entry in Inquisitionhttp://dragonage.wik...ntry:_Corypheus

"Let me tell you what I know about 'the Seven', those Tevinter magisters said to have entered the Golden City long ago."

So not necessarily a solid number, but it points to the Magisters themselves believing there to have been seven, all high priests to one of the Old Gods.

I've been, uh, hard at work investigating all of the Codex entries in Inquisition^_^

I went through the Temple of Dirthamen for the first time. Couldn't help but notice all the wolf statues and the mark of Fen'harel on stone slabs, including what looks like tombs. Further evidence that wolves were seen as guardians prior to the Dales, I suppose. And possible evidence that Fen'harel was seen as the Guardian of the People, in Thedas and the Fade?  B)

Regardless if they went with some of the early concepts or not, they were still put out there and considered, which naturally, puts the bug in our ears (eyes?) as well.  I think the idea of a "hot-blooded and cocky" young Fen'Harel musters up the image of him with a wild, rebellious, sexy elf-mane.

I'm reading through the Patient Observation codexes, and I never noticed this before:

-Day Two-

Pulse normal, breathing normal.

Still unresponsive; careful drop-feed of prep.

Elfroot extract to hasten her recovery.

A lot of thrashing. Mutters about too many eyes. Something about "the grey." Encouraging?

Any ideas what that could be?

I still consider it tragically ironic, that perhaps the only god who deeply cared for the people and is implied to be considered as their guardian for millennia,is the one the modern elves hate the most.

This looks amazing! I wish I could help with the collab, but my art style is more of a cartoony anime/Disney style (I'm also CapricornSun83 on DeviantArt btw). I'd love to see my Tala Lavellan there though and I could provide shots of her if you'd like? :)

To be honest as someone who cried more about Thranduil's glorious locks, than the sad thing that I won't spoil in the hobbit movie,I can understand why most people automatically associate elves with hair, especially long hair.
But a party member altering mod must be really swoon-worthy and subtle for me to try it out. :)

I should make a Lee Pace Inquisitor.

Also Solas could rock the Sir Issac Newton look:

So guys, I'm making a little list of things I learned from the Solas romance. This is what I have so far:

  1. Throw yourself into what you love and believe in completely.
  2. Be willing to listen, keep an open mind, discuss, and more importantly: be willing to admit when you're wrong.
  3. Respect history, because we are bound to repeat it, but don't lose yourself to it.
  4. Fix your mistakes.
  5. Lies hurt.
  6. Truth hurts.
  7. Never, ever, forsake yourself.
  8. A smile tells you more than anyone is willing to see.
  9. Find someone who respects you, loves you for you, and is willing to call you out on your bullshit.
  10. But for the love of god...don't be afraid to show your true colors. Those that turn away are not worth it. The ones that stay are more valuable and important than you could ever imagine.
  11. Don't let those people go. Ever.

Anything anyone cares to add?

Brainsquirt time.

Yet Another Theory on DWARVES and THE STONE

How can the Stone be simultaneously everywhere and in one place? There is a core. Think AI core. Think cybernetics.

We have speculated that 'The Stone' was crafted by June. Move away from the traditional, medieval idea of crafting from metals. June was interested in the ideas her Pantheon brethren were interested in - manipulation of spirits, godhood, and the ultimate goal of true immortality. But she took a different path than Ghilan'nain's trapping of spirits from the fade. June set out to see if she could artificially create life. Actual lives, who would devotedly worship her for eternity.

From a core consciousness, veins of lyrium would grow throughout the planet - a global neural network. What these lyrium veins are made of is debatable - perhaps they are condensed fade particles? Or simply a product of June's own magic-infused craft. Whatever it is resembles artificial plasma used in cybernetics to imitate blood - particularly, that liquid which serves as conduit for mental synapses connecting, transferring vast amounts of data. This also works for the "flooding" with lyrium of a golem shell to bring it to life.

Look at that mangled wave. When humans and elves touch lyrium, skin-to-skin, they suffer. But dwarves are at least resistant to the effects. Lyrium's 'song' is the stream of artificial consciousness, which is on a very slightly different frequency than that of 'biological' life forms. Skin is but a slither of membrane potentially connecting two consciousnesses. In theory, perhaps, there may be rare circumstances where data can be transferred from 'The Stone' to 'biological' life forms.

Which leads me onto the existence of dwarves as life forms... which may not be popular. 'Cybernetics' is a broad term, concerned with the way systems work, the way they govern themselves, and the way they process information. These systems can include what is typically seen as machine, or a human body. This area tries not to have bias towards either the mechanical or the biological.

The conclusion is... dwarves were mostly biological beings crafted for the purpose of being capable of interacting with and experiencing the physical world - though connected to 'The Stone' instead of the fade. When a dwarf conceives a child, a data package with size equivalent to a soul is 'downloaded' into a growing body. When a dwarf dies, it's 'soul' - it's consciousness - is uploaded to 'The Stone'.

Paragons are revered so greatly due to the contribution they have made to the collective consciousness on returning. High achievers are only made paragons on death because of this. Life in the physical world continues to have value, collecting information and experience with each lifespan. This may explain the anxiety dwarves have regarding the surface, too. Dwarves may still return to 'The Stone' when they die, but so much experience with other races and cultures is perhaps not relevant to the collective 'dwarf' consciousness. The data's lack of use for dwarven society in particular lessens the whole.

The term 'Cybernetics' comes from the greek for 'helmsman', 'controller' or 'governance'. Dwarves refer to 'The Stone' as 'she'. I theorise that June, in order to assure success, included her own consciousness/spirit in the process. The core deep under Orlais may be where she initiated this.

If darkspawn reached the core in order to infect it with 'Blight'.... it may be a slow chain reaction in corrupting all 'The Stone's lyrium 'neural network'. Red lyrium may be found in places where the infection has spread.

With any localised infection, we may cut the bad limb off or suck out the poison in order to keep the body healthy. Profane are the 'bad limbs'. The Blight, however, infects the very 'spirit'.... something which cannot simply be cut out. Yet, the slow spread and accumulation of Red Lyrium on the surface may indicate 'The Stone' working overtime to flush it out... like puss spilling from an infected wound.

This theory gives more weight to existing debates within Thedas. We may agree with Solas' unfavorable opinions on the Qun - a way of life for those who, for whatever reason, choose to give up their individuality for the greater good. Yet what of those whose 'collectiveness' cannot possibly be a choice? That for dwarves, it may be a part of their very existence? Are we still to tell them that the way they live is not the correct way?

Aaand that's all I have for now. Disclaimer: not expert in any of these things, just a fan.

I shall name all following dwarf PC's and their weapons Sister Squish in your honor.

'The Stone lives beneath Orlais' sounds like one of those lines you'd expect to be handled in Inquisition

Even with the dreads, we still wouldn't have gotten it, I bet. I mean looking back, the answer smacked us in the face several times and we're still like "solas the hobo apostate is smooth as **** damn gimmie that ass."

I need to get a better handle on how authoring and contributing works, but I imagine there'd be an alternative route for outside theory-crafters to submit ideas without posting to this particular thread.  As for the name, I'm a bit fond of "Team Mordin's DA Lab" personally, but don't want to yank the name out from under Cassius if (he? she?) isn't on board with this.

Caddius, not Cassius.  I'm not the failure prone Denarian from Dresden Files.

And I am completely on board with a Theory-crafting wiki, and think Team Mordin's DA Lab is a perfect name.

Again, apologies if this is coming too late.  :P

EDIT: According to http://dragonage.wik.../wiki/The_Stoneworship of the Stone has been practiced for two thousand years.

That's roughly around the time of Endrin Stonehammer and the Paragons, as well as switching capitals from Kal'sharok to Orzammar due to the Tevinter Civil War impacting trade.

That leaves 3500 years between dwarf-elf first contact and known worship of the Stone.

It's not so much things I learned, but things I am reminded of.

1) I learned that I like sexy smooth male elves. lol... Ok, well I learned that I can really love a person's looks if I fall in love with their personality.

2) Things are rarely black and white.

3) There is no easy answer to world peace, freedom, and equality.

4) Don't go about putting everything on your own shoulders. Teamwork and partnership are usually better.

5) Be suspicious if your lover wants to take you to a waterfall that's several days away from your home in the evening.
