I think all the "arguments" on here usually comes down to either someone being too sensitive or someone not being careful enough with their word choice and style. I don't think anyone ever intends to be offensive and that's why when the inevitable argument comes up, it gets resolved within a couple of pages.

 

I do wonder why we have fewer trolls and extremists on here compared to other threads (not that I want them here). It just seems like this thread by its nature would attract some Solas bashers. However, it seems like they have decided to stay on reddit and tumblr.

 

In my relatively limited experience with the thread, I can only recall a single person who kinda bashed the Solavellan romance, and even then it was mild, because YOU PEOPLE are so damn rational and intelligent.  It was like...

Good god, not tumblr but I remember the trigger arguement. I snuffle at the thought but I read the twitter conversation and it was like they were describing discomfort but not ptsd. They could say the same for Dorian but rather than being stereotypically gay, maybe he's just aristocratic? He is an altus.

 

When you work in the entertainment industry, it tends to be like that. You are catering to passionate people and sometimes those passionate people get a little crazy when you attack their hobby. You try your best to deal with it until the death threats and stuff. edit: also you CAN choose to not touch social media. When you consider it, you have to be mentally prepared. If not, you'll become a PR disaster for whatever organization you work for.

I remember the twitter argument. The word 'trigger' being casually thrown around really rubbed me the wrong way. I think, like you said, people are using it when they really mean that it makes them uncomfortable. But I think a good story makes us feel uncomfortable at times, makes us question why things are disturbing to us.  A "trigger" can be anything, a certain smell, a type of clothing, anything that stood out and that is now connected to the memory. This does not mean that we demand perfume companies to change formulations, or that stores stop carrying skirts, and so on. De-triggering is internal work. The power of a trigger lies within. /soapbox

Is it just me who thinks that the sex scenes add nothing more than a confirmation that they did the deed? (which could also be achieved with a fade to black which I don't mind but anyway) It always ends with me staring at the screen and going "Oh, that was kind of awkward..." I'd rather they did it like they did with Solas' romance so we can leave it up to our imaginations if they did it in the first place and who was dominant or submissive or neither.

Yeah I have to say that I've only experienced one thing on tumblr with a person reblogging one of my post and making a comment about solas fans that had me face palming.  I haven't experienced anything in this thread with bashers I tend to shy away from reddit and slowly I may start backing away from tumblr again.

To be fair, if you choose certain responses, you could interpret him as asexual. And if that allows people to enjoy his romance more, I say it's perfectly fine (as i know he did attract a lot of ace and demisexual fans). However, that doesn't give them the right to criticize others or get angry for saying he isn't. Though i don't see why people need to argue about it one way or another. Patrick Weekes said he wanted to leave it (as in whether they slept together) up to the player, and I think that should be respected.

 

Because the internet. Everything has to be argued on the internet. I had this one guy on another forum I go to, that was obsessed with trying to get a rise out of me. We had one fight, one time over a misunderstanding. Neither of us came away from it looking all that good so I decided that I would forever go forth with the 'lol, whatevs' response to these things and move on, he would not move on. I later found out his wife had walked out on him and suddenly the reason why he kept singling out woman to fight with on the internet became abundantly clear. 

But yeah, some people just have to argue. They have to be right and the internet is where you really see that shine through. 

Personally, IDGAF what people want their Solas to be. I am asexual but I am not against RPing as characters who are like rampant rabbits. It's fun to not be me. I must admit though, I do have a hard time imagining anything all too sexual between my Lavellan and Solas, but that's my issue. If other people imagine them doing it 'daily, nightly and ever so rightly' then go forth and enjoy that smut. More power to you.

Read Scuttlebutt and you would think DAI was the worst game in the history of gaming, that no one bought it, that EA are going to drop it now, basically that it's some kind of plague (or in one case referred to as a cancer. Like. Wow, seriously. Because they are totally the same thing. I just...ah. No.) It's so weird, because everywhere else I go all I see is praise, love and GOTY for it. I felt like the only DA fan in the sodding world when DA2 happened. Now, suddenly with DAI everyone I know is playing it, and enjoying it as well.

But not according to Scuttlebutt. NO ONE BOUGHT THIS GAME.

 

I should make them all sit down and play Watch_Dogs. Then we'll talk about bad games.

 

Also, what's with the person who keeps making threads asking for Polygamy? I swear I keep seeing threads about it all weekend and it's from the same person. Its, odd.

I agree with you, really. What's more, besides allowing people to have the relationship with Solas they're most comfortable with (sexual, asexual, and so on) not showing the scene fuels the imagination. For example, those who prefer a more sexual Solas now have an infinite well of possibilities to work with on that front. In my time lurking, I believe I saw someone address this effect as "the little black dress" of romantic storytelling. It's an apt description, and I think suits the type of character Solas is beautifully regardless of how one views the further specifics of his sexuality. The power of imagination is amazing, haha.
