There was a fan-made article trying to explain these frescoes... let me see...
And here's a link to the frescoes themselves: http://thedosianimpo...s-fresco-panels
Ofc, there's no Internet in Thedas, so the Inquisitor can interpret them however they wish.
Thank you for sharing that interpretation.
However, as you say, the inquisitor can interpret them however s/he wishes. Therefore I don't think Solas created them in an attempt to share particular knowledge with the inquisitor in particular (to achieve some particular goal).
Seems more like a "Here you go. I painted it, understand it or not or do whatever you like with it, I don't really care much". So I suppose it does not matter if he likes the inquisitor or not, as he does not do it for him/her. Maybe he was just bored sitting in that same room all day long for a year. Everybody needs a hobby.

I don't think he did it for the Inquisitor him/herself. From his banters with Blackwall:

Frescos, the high risk sport of the art world. Must be the scariest form of art ever. For the artist that is. Yet another piece of Solas' personality, he really is a "risk it all" kind of person.
That's all I got today. I have completely given up keeping up with this thread. Who made a google doc of codex entries? I'll show'em into the wiki if I get a link.
Right above my post I see. Thanks LliiraAnna!

It was me, and the links are in my signature. However, only these three out of ? are complete atm. I'm still working on the other ones. ![]()

I just uploaded the files to the wiki. I'll sort them out as pages later, when someone has decided on a structure for these things.

Basically, he admires the Inquisition, so he makes those frescoes of their deeds regardless of whether he likes the Inquisitor him/herself or not. That's how I see it, anyway.
So, basically you meant to agree with me and we "argued" for no reason. Good. Youmust be one of my brothers then. ![]()

Same here! (I am INFJ, btw.) I actually began to teach myself english when I was around 13 years old - because I had no friends for over three years. That was a big thing for a 13-year-old girl, but I'm glad that I taught myself a whole language, even though I had it in school and was okay-ish at it before I decided to invest my time into something that would help me later on.
I'm glad I did...Solas' english voice is just soo~ amazing!
Don't want to rain on your parade but although Solas is speaking English... His accent is Welsh, and Wales and Welsh are a different culture and language with a different history to the English. The English (I am half English married to a Welshman, BTW) often take the ****** out of the Welsh because they sound very different, so it's a sensitive subject. Famous Welsh people in the arts include Antony Hopkins, Catherine Zita Jones and the late Richard Burton... Wales is a tiny, weeny country but in drama, writing, rugby and choral music it punches well above its weight.
And the Welsh are wonderful people!
And kudos to you for learning English, I began learning Spanish at that age and it is hard, hard, hard...

I... didn't argue... I think. I just remembered that there was this explanation... and then I agreed with you.
...alright, you got me. I am irrational. Also, I like discussing things ![]()

My Australian neighbor's 10yo son visited the other day and I let him play DAI for a bit. Don't judge me, I have no kid friendly games here! Anyway, he thought Solas' accent sounds Aussie. Not sure how good he is at reading accents as we both don't live in our county of origin, though. He's spent most of his life around expats so his Aussie may be a bit watered down.

I wonder how Solas would paint the Inquisitor?
Also, I love that Solas's location in Skyhold is literally right under Leliana's nose. It's no wonder he wasn't high on her list of people to check out - any time she wondered what he was up to, she could just lean over the railing. Talk about hiding in plain sight.
But doesn't Leliana send one of her more artistically inclined agents to comment on the murals? And the doc you find up the scaffolding is his report?

Spoiler
I did too, and Dylan Thomas! There is no end to them.
Being half Spanish they are so much more attuned to family and feelings than the English... My husband fits right in in Spain.

Can we not generalise about English people? I'm English, my brother in law is Welsh, one of my best friends is Welsh, I adore the Welsh. I'm also very attuned to feelings, both my own and those of others. I know what you're trying to say and that you meant nothing negative by it, but it just made a little part of me sad.

Holy crap did a lot happen while I was gone this weekend! I am super into the idea of designing the rest of the pantheon however... Give me... a bit. I will do that thing. The only things I keep running into are June and Ghilal'nain's depictions in their mosaics. Ghilal'nain, unlike the rest of the Pantheon, has a white face, which leads me to believe she's covered in vallaslin.
Ghilal'nain's Mosaic
June, on the other hand, has the bottom of his face in white, which leads me to believe it's a beard. Seeing as beards are the least elven characteristic I can imagine in the DA universe, I continue to doubt his being elven. Also, his arms are portrayed as significantly shorter. Not to mention the structured, angular background detail pattern behind him that deeply reminiscent of dwarven architecture and statuary that is in direct contrast to the organic visual motifs present in the rest of the mosaics of the pantheon. And then there's the anvil. I need not go on!
June's Mosaic on the left with Falon'Din's on the right to act as a limb-length comparison. June, on the left, is significantly more squat and broad, lacking the near El Greco stretching we see the in the depiction of the rest of the elves.![]()
Sooo... if I were to do the pantheon, would you all be cool with June being dwarven and Ghilal'nain having Vallaslin? I kind of can't see another way of going about it.
EDIT: The tales tell us that Ghilal'nain was Andruil's chosen and most devoted follower, so her Vallaslin will be Andruil's. Just an FYI.
So, I had never considered this! I think you may be on to something here!

I agree and I like Dorian personally, but not everything can just be smiled over. Solas has experienced a lot personally that our characters haven't, so it's kind of much to expect him to just wave all that away simply because Dorian is gregarious. Especially a naturally suspicious, introverted person like Solas.I can't help but feel bad though. Dorian tries really hard to be friends. Yes, he can be clueless. Yes, he's a slave apologist. Yes it's clear that his respect/desire to be friends for Solas is partially borne out of the fact that Solas is clearly a powerful mage. YET, Dorian tries soooo hard and is so charming. I have a big soft spot for sincerity. What makes it worse is that if you pick any of the pro elf options, Solas AND Dorian always approve. Dorian is also really open to Cole - up front. No questions. Dorian just wants to be loved and Solas is just like "NO!".
Don't you as an artist or writer have to mostly do it for yourself anyway? I think his painting is a way of meditating on his situation. He's trying to find a sense of place in the mortal world and tie it to his past experience. The whole fresco thing is fascinating. That he'd go through all that trouble - even if it were just a mural, still a lot of effort - for us? It's sorta hard to wrap my mind around it, because he does that even for an inquisitor he doesn't like. So I guess for the world to make sense, I'll never be able to play a character he doesn't like. I'd feel awful. It'd be like walking into a massive guilt trip every time you visit the rotunda.
Of course, as we know with the Dark Ritual and the Aimo comic, the same event can happen in a game and yet the motives and emotions associated with it are very different depending on the relationships involved. I don't think anyone imagines Solas painting the deeds of his lover with the same mindset as he would impartially depict the deeds of someone he's cool towards.
I'm lackadaisically trying to get a human mage through a Cullen-romance game and it's kind of killing me. I think it's going to be a truncated version. Not recruiting the optional characters, speeding through the main events. In related news, I scrapped my dwarf in a fit of Solas-less boredom. I swear. How does anyone who has romanced this guy manage to play without doing it again?

I've just gone through the Fade in my Nightmare playthrough, and I'd like to offer my own translation for the Fade demon, because why not:
(since "Ar lath ma" means "I love you", "ma/mar" refers to "you/your/yours" in my head)
Dirth ma, harellan. Ma banal enasalin. Mar solas ena mar din.
I speak to you, Trickster. You lost everything. Your pride will be your death.
(I'm not happy about the last phrase, but that's how I see it.)

So this was posted earlier and I was going over it because I like the sound of elven, and while I agreed with the author on the most likely translation, (It's seriously cool that we have people talented enough in linguistics to figure out this much elven) one of the other ones really piqued my interest.
The version the translator goes with as most likely.
NIGHTMARE: Speak, rebel! You care for nothing but victory. Your pride will be your death.
SOLAS: Nothing is inevitable.
But the version that ties in with Solas being tied to certain all-consuming mysterious phenomenons of mass destruction...
NIGHTMARE: Speak, rebel! You are the Blight's victory. Your pride will be your death.
SOLAS: The Blight is inevitable.
This is probably just a result of banal being the word for nothing and banalhan being both 'blight' and 'place of the blight's origin'.
But still.
Plot bunnies.
Interesting. So does that mean that Solas had something to do with the beginning of the Blight?
Also completely hope this third patch covers Solas's quest bug
About time!
