I must say that he didn't catch my attention at the beginning, (well, he certainly did but a I was more attracted to other companions) but after reading his character interview I was so fascinated that I overcame whatever "issue" I had with his aspect. Characters gradually grow on you and that's exactly what Solas did on me. I'm sure his story will be very interesting and have lot to offer.
Plus, I remembered having loved another bald elf before

Mmmm...
Jarlaxle even wears the Dragon Age... what're people calling it? The sex hat? ![]()
So, I came back to this thread and...Um WUT?
Just as some of you are doing, I'm wondering how Solas will work on the battlefield but I'm also wondering HOW he became a Hedge Mage. He was never a part of the circle but..there was no one there to teach him "proper" magic? Was he adopted? Abandoned, maybe, and just tried to make the best out of his powers?
The man grows more intriguing as the days roll on..
I'm going to dream up that his parents were a non-mage elf couple living in a small village who were baffled when their son started manifesting magical talent. Or maybe his mother had a brief relationship with a Dalish mage or elven apostate but they died or didn't stick around to find out she was pregnant, though I'd prefer the non-mage parents story because I'd love for at least one of our companions to have had a pleasant, peaceful, or possibly even love-filled childhood. Whatever his parents were maybe he was sheltered in his small village and was encouraged to approach magic with a open-minded, responsible attitude. Knowing Bioware though he probably accidentally killed his entire family with magic and then went on the run ![]()
Edit: My daydream about sweet non-mage parents makes me think of parents in the US who live in poverty and have had little education, but they instill great determination and work ethic in their children and encourage them to attend college and rise above the challenges they faced. Even though non-mage parents might not understand the arcane aspect of their child's life, they could still want them to succeed and be the best that they can be. Sorry for the semi-off topic rambling, I just have a lot of respect for families like that *sniffle sniffle*
