No, he isn't but the IQ is. He's likelly enough knowledge of their ways to know what that would mean.

Honestly, I don't really like the thought that the romance should be all about that. As I said, love is about so much more than just sex. That you desire someone doesn't necessarily mean you have to jump the sack at first opertunity.

I'd like to think that the love between the IQ and Solas are more than just physical attraction. But maybe that's just me...

Now I feel old

And then you have a character like mine who is old enough to be - and is, in my mind - a mother, and no stranger to attraction or sex or feelings. I absolutely agree that the Solas romance is more about the emotional and spiritual depth that they seemed to have and not about being just another notch on the aravel walls. The sexual aspect would always be the side benefit to everything they feel for each other, and not the focus. And since it's been said more than once that it is up to the players to decide, and there is no canon yes-they-did, no-they-didn't, we can each go with what we are comfortable with. I am glad they left enough hints to support that they did, should people want that to be true for their character, as well as left it ambiguous enough for those that feel differently.

Hello Solasians. I have been reading in this forum for quite a while, but this is the first time I'm posting anything. I usually prefer to just be a silent onlooker and observe conversation rather than participating, but recently I've realized I have a very real (really stupid) problem that I can't really talk to anyone about. (sorry for making my first post a dramatic one, but I have few options and you all seem very nice) It revolves around the DAI Solas romance in contrast to relationships I've had in the past. I've decided it would be easier in the long run to explain my past relationship experiences to someone who understands my feelings about Solas as opposed to trying to explain my feelings about Solas to someone who understands my relationship history. I am not looking for advice or counsel so much as I am looking for someone to simply understand what I'm currently going through.

My issue: in the game, Solas invarriably breaks it off with a female elven inquisitor in attempt to save her from his fate, as I'm sure you all well know by now. Indeed, I knew this, too, going in to my second playthrough (my first playthrough was as a human so I did not have that option the first go-round, though that slick elven bastard had already stolen my heart within five minutes of opening his mouth.) "It won't be a problem." i told myself. "I already know this will happen, so I can prepare myself for sadness and it won't hurt. Besides, it's just a game, right? It will be fine."

It was nt fine. Watching Solas break up with my very own, handcrafted to look cute standing next to him, Levellan, watching his expressions change as he does the inevitable--something the game makes it clear he does not want to do-- completely broke my heart. Because I've been that guy (or girl, rather) I've been the one who broke up with someone I was completely in love with and would have been happy to spend the rest of my life with because I wanted to "save them" from themself--and from me. Being able to see that from both sides, from Solas's and from Lavellan's, shouuld have made it easier for me, but it didn't. In my experience, ending the relationship made everything about a thousand times worse for both of us. Had I have known, I would have just stayed with him and stuck it out...

Maybe Solas didn't have that option, but another thing the relationship did not have (as with my relationship) was closure. I feel like, in no way can this end well for Lavellan. Solas broke off the relationship. He is moving on to do what he thinks needs to be done, leaving her behind with no rationale as to why the relationship even ended in the first place. Now she has all these feelings and has no idea what to do with them, which is a really difficult place to be when you are also trying to do something of import such as lead an inquisition. More or less all I'm hoping is that she will be granted the closure that she needs, otherwise she's just sort of stuck.

Thank you for reading my post. I'm thinking about starting some fanfic to kind of explore all these risidual feelings left over from the game, which I've never done before, but now seems like as good a time as any to start, considering how I have all these headcannons inspired from my own experiences in the matter, such as Solas possibly forgetting he had broken things off with Lavellan, going to reach for her, she being accepting of the advance, thinking the tides were turning, and then him remembering and drawing back. I hope they provide Solas DLC soon. Patience is hard.

I've been in exactly the same position myself too. On both sides, I understand completely and I think that's a big part of why it got to me in the way that it did as well.  It's a tragic story and when I tell it, it makes people cry, so I don't want to tell it here. So I'll just say..I know.

Guys, live and let live. No one here threatens anyone's headcanon. Peace.  ^_^

Eh I think that's basically what all of us are saying.  I don't see anyone trying to threaten anyone's headcanon.

Anyways I am late picking up my niece at school.  Have a great afternoon/evening dearies.

The only correct answer is that Solas's attraction and love for Lavellan was not motivated solely by lust. He did legitimately love her.

This, truth ^^

My lovely, welcome to the thread. <3

I did the same thing as you, though - spoiled the break-up for myself, because hey, I thought it would make it easier on me. It didn't. It really didn't. Solas' character, his romance...it hit me so hard that I almost felt ashamed of myself for feeling so strongly about it. I found out things about myself and my life...Maker's breath, some of those things I didn't want to know; but now that I know, I can fix it.

Stay a while, and have cookies. May the Dread Wolf take you.  ;)  :kissing:

So I went to tvtropes to refresh my memory, aaand:
"Maya represents the Hermit S. Link, which begins when Junpei gives the MC a copy of the old MMORPG Innocent Sin. The link consists mainly of Maya not really understanding why she's so unmotivated regarding her career and social life and instead choosing to waste time on an MMO. In addition, her interactions with the MC consist largely of complaining about her coworkers, all the while dropping small hints regarding her identity and occupation. Her true identity is not revealed until the very last days of the game."

In tvtropes terms, Does This Remind You Of Anything?

So... what you said might be at least partially true.

Haven't played Persona.

But Solas does remind me of me of somebody who has spent too much time in an MMO.

Haha, I think Cammen and Gheyna are pretty obviously misfits in some sense, no matter what you think about the Dalish. :D

Yeah, I always figured Cammen and Gheyna fell out of one of the many films about teenagers in High School made by John Hughes in the 80's... :P

My Quizzy's backstory is that she had a relationship with the Keeper's Second (I heard somewhere in the game sometimes there are Seconds, or even Thirds) But they broke up because they were afraid she would get pregnant with a mage child and potentially lose it to another clan or worse. So, my Lavellan has only been with one other guy.

I do agree with everyone saying love isn't all about sex, it's so much more than that. And I doubt the Quizzy and Solas just dove right in and did the deed so to speak. That's what's so wonderful about the Solas relationship, you talk first, get to know him, ask questions, even argue at times. It's like this growing respect for each other and admiration that sparks a truly deep love that they can't ignore. Without sex, it's still the most heartbreaking thing I've ever seen in a game. They respect each other and are very well matched in most things, other than him being a god and all that. But as mentioned, it is open to interpretation, and as two consenting adults, there is definitely the possibility there. Again, I think it really just depends on how you played the quizzy

Definitely true for my quizzy. She was more or less attracted to him on the basis of feeling like he was a kindred spirit, seeing as neither of them felt they really fit in with the Dalish. In my personal head canon, there were rumors that they were having sex because they were, indeed sleeping together, but in a literal sense, since they spent the majority of their waking hours in battle, a lot of their "alone time" was spent in the fade just enjoying each other's company.

I don't think Dalish are necessarily pure as a rule, it just makes more sense to wait for a potential mate than to than to do it like rabbits since clans are so small. I mean, unless you go looking for another clan, your dating pool is pretty small. Imagine the bad feelings of the broken hearts for the ones you slept with but didn't want to mate for life with.

You would think that smaller societies (especially the Dalish) Sex wouldnt be a taboo thing. It would be vital to survival, and with the clan being so small it would be impossible to keep children jaded on the subject. In my opinion the Dalish wouldnt necessarily be promiscuous but would be open to physical love but still hold firm (pardon the pun) the idea of an appropriate couple forming a lasting bond and starting a family. Considering the ancient romans ingenuity if you will (regarding activities at the brothels) i can imagine there being means not to have a child out of a Dalish union. Some clans did trade with one another.....and shems.

"Getting her into bed" isn't a sexual reference? I don't consider sex impure, and it annoys me when people consider elves ethereal beings whose farts don't smell. But that gets into areas of personal belief so like I said, whether they had a physical relationship or not is best left to personal interpretation. To me there's no doubt that they did, but Bioware chose to leave it open with Solas and that's fine. I'm sure some people would feel squicky about it given the deception in their relationship.

I'll have you know my Lavellan's farts smell like pine forests! *shakes fist*

I always associated the Free Marches with the Hansa league. Loose confederation of independent trading states. HRE doesn't make much sense since the Free Marches don't even pretend to be unified.

Other stuff I agree with, except they seem to be blending in East India with Tevinter, judging by the accents on Dorian and his father.

It does seem like the writers trying to have their cake and eat it too in a few cases.  The Free Marches = Hanseatic league is an excellent fit, but the historical HRE mirror is also a bit there.  Arlathan = Atlantis (with bonus ancient Greece tie-in in to the first post-Eden attempt at "Democracy") is juggled simultaneously with Arlathan as ancient Judea (as Fae posted) with later Halamshiral = Jerusalem as the reclaimed Land of the People heavily underscoring the idea.

It gets messy in bits.  Not a surprise given the idea of game world-as-Fade: a reflection of the real world that's bent and skewed but never outright broken.  (No Huns in Denerim, for example.  And probably no Mayans in Par Vallon.)

Not sure how to squeeze all that into a map.  @w@   Lots of teeny tiny labels with asterisk footnotes?

Yeah, but if the Dalish did have a way to prevent pregnancy, then wouldn't Fenarial's (can't remember the spelling) mother in 2 have used it when he was conceived? She was kicked out of her clan for having a human baby.

I like to think that they did it after a battle in which both of them almost lost their lives. At that moment both of them realize the extent to which they love each other and Solas was too swept up in the moment to be thinking about long-term stuff.
