Honestly, I don't really like the thought that the romance should be all about that. As I said, love is about so much more than just sex. That you desire someone doesn't necessarily mean you have to jump the sack at first opertunity.
I'd like to think that the love between the IQ and Solas are more than just physical attraction. But maybe that's just me...

Anyway, I see you bowed out, and don't want to belabor it, there are no hard feelings. It's a game and a fictional character. Also not all of us are teenagers.    In my view, Bioware left it ambiguous because with Solas deceiving Lavellan all along and then jilting her, some players could feel exploited and if there had been an overt physical element depicted, squicked out by it. That's what some people say about Blackwall's romance, for instance.
 

It's also a nice little callback to one of their earlier conversations in Haven and their flirtation over his use of the phrase "side benefits" when talking about their class, although now I think about it, it could also be Solas-speak for "Dat ass"...

Heh. His all purpose nerdy pickup line. Did someone figure out if it's iambic pentamenter? It probably is.

I like this idea. But even Mythal is not depicted as a dragon in her mosaics. All the pantheons appear to be elves. All except him.

 

In all of Mythal's statues, she's a dragon or a half dragon woman.  But she was probably still an elf.  Fen'Harel is so closely associated with his wolf image, it isn't surprising that he's represented that way in art.  He's also considered different from the rest of the pantheon because he's both a Creator and a Forgotten One, so it emphasizes an "otherness" about him.

The next time you apologize for nitpicking, I hurt you.  I don't have enough Thedas history under my belt to appreciate the fine details (time demands of work has me stalled out at WoT:1 p.50) but that was really interesting and no doubt a much better fit.  Any chance you have time to whip up a more accurately labelled map to stick in the wiki? If not, I'll try to throw together a proper Caddius™ version when I can snag the time.

I used to have this huge feather blanket when I was a kid. I made caves out of it and pretended I was a wolf or a snow leopard. I miss that blanket..I so want to make a cave right now.

I get where you're coming from that depends on the individual and the clan. It really does. But a lot of people can't have sex without forming emotional attachments. And I personally don't believe its society, I think it the way people are. Especially if you live in a tight clan with them your whole life, attachments are made. Feelings get hurt,

I'm not saying that some entanglements wouldn't be messy, but I also think that culture has a very definite impact on how people solve problems. Sometimes, the way people in similar societies deal with breakups is simply by finding another partner, or putting the health of the group over their own personal relationship issues, or if none of these is a possibility then taking a bit of a break and visiting some relatives for a while. I'm not saying that emotional attachments wouldn't be formed, but that it's likely that the Dalish (as a whole) teach their kids to bounce back quicker because the health of the clan requires them to be able to quickly forget grudges.

 

And, from a wider perspective, not every culture sees sex the same way. Even within Thedas. Heck, the Qunari don't even link sex to emotional attachment. Circle mages are discouraged from forming emotional attachments (not permitted to get married or have kids) but are allowed to have all the sex they want. It depends a lot on the environment. Very little about humans (or, well, nonhuman but sentient peoples in this case) is inherently true, and that's something that Bioware was able to capture very well.

lol this is me right here! I also kind of assumed that there was some more intimacy going on with them that we didn't see on screen but it was implied. I also took it after that scene they did something.

Oh, my!  I'd never bothered to translate "ar lath ma, vhenan" but when I read your post, I understood it. At some point I've dorked out and learned some elvish. And, hnnng, I'm just...gah! I never knew he'd admitted that much! I went back and watched the scene again and those words add so much depth to their relationship. Be still my beating heart! I'm gonna' need a fan over here!

Heh, no problem. I probably should've said that my opinion is very much coloured by my discipline (Anthropology). I've spent years reading about cultures that have very different appreciations of sex, love, and marriage when compared to western society. Sometimes it seems very alien, but there's always an internal logic to it. So when a kind-of anthropological discussion about the Dalish started up I got a bit excited.
