it woke up when I tried to jump on it. That really startled me.
[SolasVoice] Really? [/SolasVoice]
I really should keep a sound file of that portion of his banter with Blackwall handy.

just curious, is there canon information on what solas looked like when he was young?
No official word but most of us have accepted dreadlock Solas from the concept art sketches as a sort of collective headcanon for what he looked like when he was younger.

I heard mention of Archive of Our Own invitations floating out in the Solas Thread ether.. Does anyone have any they'd mind sending out? Tabs are great, but when you've got Crystal White, Only Time Will Tell, Apotheosis, and Sulena Nadas'din (this last one is awesoooome) and so many others cluttering up your Google chrome, the ability to bookmark sounds super lovely.
I'd be super grateful! Thank you!
I would like one too unless someone else (a writer) has greater need.

Yeah, though I can't say I'm a fan of just how many "solas with hair" images there are. I just know that they're going to try modding it in sooner or later and we're going to see tons of people using it. I kinda hated how many "sexy wynne" mods, or mods that turned Zevran into an anime character I had to sift through when I finally got DAO for PC.

I posted this in the Blackwall thread, and I think I'll leave it here too. It's a slowed down extended version of the romance theme. It sounds more melancholy and sad. Since both Solas and Blackwall have the sad romances, I think this version fits their romances well.

I have also taken on this head cannon. My Lavellan had a brother that was significantly younger than she was and she was very nurturing toward him, so it felt very natural to her to take Cole under her wing. She got really offended when Blackwall said something about Varric having adopted him and never invited Blackwall on any other quests as a result. She also left him to die in Orlais, but that was because she detests liars. Makes me wonder what will happen when she finally finds out about Solas... then again, Solas never actually lied... exactly...
Lavellan comes from the Dalish way of thinking that the entire clan raises a child, so she's welcome to the idea of Varric being involved with Cole.
My Lavellan has a much younger sibling too, a little sister. She used to help take care of her, and generally had glorified babysitting duty for the clan's children at times because she's good with kids.
As far as Blackwall, my Lavellan chose to let him find redemption with the Inquisition. I expect she'd reach out to Fen'Harel the same way, if only he would let her... ![]()

Do you have to do the dragon for the tomb? I just found the dragon and looked like it was in the same area.
Obv. I skipped this dragon last PT and didn't do any dragons at all first time around. I'll get all the dragons this time but want to wait till I'm higher than level 16.
Sorry I was away making dinner, so slightly late reply. I skirted around the edge and avoided the dragon, and was able to access the Tomb no problem. She kept right on sleeping.

He should have shoes!I'm so torn on what to do about Solas' leg armor. On one hand, the Battlemage Mail legs match well with the rest of his outfit and they look really nice...but it feels like blasphemy to put him in closed-toe shoes. There's always the Battlemage Armor/Coat legs, which are nice and non-blasphemous, but they don't match the rest of the outfit as well. *a terrible decision not unlike deciding who to put on the throne of Orlais*
Except that often when Cole talks about being "real," it means someone who is connected to the Fade. Real =/ human. Real is when the Fade is given shape by the mortal realm. Which he still is on the spirit path as well. Also, nyet on the implication that the choice is only equal because of gameplay reasons. That's necessary for gameplay reasons, though: they have to make the choice feel viable either way, which it wouldn't be if Cole directly stated what he wanted. Everything outside that particular setup points to him trying to learn how to interact and help on a human level. The inference being that he does want to become "real".
Full disclosure: I always make Cole spirit. Varric's presentation of his reason for coming through makes him sound like a demon.
The "bald is glorious" camp is here, too. The dreads just look like a mop on his head.Yeah, though I can't say I'm a fan of just how many "solas with hair" images there are. I agree, it's up to the player. I like both paths. None are wrong.
In the Cole topic I talked about that a little.
It just makes me so happy that this game is so flexible about those things. You are not evil or something is you make a certain decision. They all have their pro's and con's. I love it.
Agreed, and I'm especially impressed with Patrick Weekes' writing. Even before I learned he was in charge of Iron Bull, Solas and Cole, Iron Bull's and Cole's personal quests stood out to me as being the best in terms of subtly, nuance, and "It can go either way, there is no right answer."
Most of the BioWare writers strive for moral grey when writing different conflicts and sides, though I personally think some are more successful than others. I'm really impressed by how Weekes has managed to give his grey conflicts an equal dose of black in white in almost all of them. =)
Cole is my Lavellan's adopted son with Solas, so Cole always feels relevant to me.
Oh, honey, same here. When Lavellan met Cole, her maternal instincts flared. Hard. I imagine she imprinted on him as her baby like a mother cat adopting a duckling, and kept fussing and fretting over him like a mother hen for the rest of the game. I imagine Cole got really uncomfortable with her constantly trying to adjust his hat or his collar, and Solas constantly had to remind her he wasn't a mortal child she could parent like that. (I'm sorry now that I couldn't bring him along the party more, but I headcanon that she wanted to keep him out of combat out of concern for his safety, and felt he could do a lot of good comforting people back at Skyhold.)
I don't think she ever felt fully confident in her decision to make him more human, but some of their interactions later were just touching. When she took him out to lunch and he said, "Gentle. You watch me walk into darkness over and over and always worry. Thank you." And the scene near the end, after they see Corypheus body-hop and Cole gets upset wondering over whether he failed to help the real Cole. And he tells the Inquisitor the story of how he held the real Cole's hand as he died and Cole had said "Thank you," then Cole says "Thank you" to the Inquisitor? D'awwwwwww!!

I fully intend to kill her! I just wanted another level or two for padding before I do as I am playing on Nightmare. I've killed half of them so far.

The most common argument against romancing Solas is his lack of hair so I've no doubt there's going to be a lot of those type of mods but TBH the only sort that bother me is ones that whitewash npcs. Give Vivienne hair? I don't understand it but fine, make her white and I'm sharpening knives.

While I have not finished the game, so I can't say for sure this does not happen. I want to take Solas to the Tavern in Skyhold and have a couple drinks with him, just to see if he would loosen up enough to open up a bit more. In less you are talking about the fade, he really seems to be walled off. At least that the impression I get from not pursuing a romance with him or talking with him that much.

It's their game and if they want hair on Solas, go right ahead. It doesnt effect me at all.
I think this thread goes to show how different we all are, how many ways we interpret different events- it's fascinating. Proves there is no right way and wrong way, only our way. And that my way is different than your way and that's ok.
Its kind of the point, I think.

Everything outside that particular setup points to him trying to learn how to interact and help on a human level. The inference being that he does want to become "real".
To strengthen this, I want to add that Cole hopefully asks Solas if helping people more would make him more real.
I made him more spirit on the first playthrough, but as things played out, it started to feel wrong to me (I say to me, because it is a matter of opinion): seeing him deal with the petty insecurities of the Orlesian nobles at the cafe, he stating 'I made myself forget when I made myself real' in the Fade, the discovery that Nightmare started out as Compassion but went down a dark path, knowing what transpired at the White Spire...
Now, to me, trying Solas' advice feels like resetting Cole back to square one. He was once purely Compassion, and look at where it got him in Asunder. I feared he might try that path again, make the same mistakes.
All these said, I would have preferred if the game allowed my Inquisitor to accompany him and encourage him to forgive but remember. Varric wants to help Cole - true - but you don't tell a seething spirit to 'put someone down like a mad dog'. I half-expected Cole to burst into full demon form. ![]()

Given the hair choices in the game, I prefer him without. I can't think of any styles we've seen in game that would suit him. I've seen some lovely fan art though. I like the idea it was long once. But it doesn't matter.

YOUR Lavellan might have been cool with that. Mine was offended. She already didn't think much of Blackwall. Found him kind of useless. He couldn't even help her figure out what happened to the Wardens. I imagine if it had come from anyone else, she would have been more okay with it. She liked Varric well enough, it's not like she wanted to keep Cole from him, but seeing that she didn't care much for Blackwall in the first place, her response was more or less "you unobservant fool, how can you not see that Solas and I have ALSO adopted Cole." Seeing as both of them were standing right there at the time.
As for my Lavellan's forgiveness toward Solas, she seems to have a real soft spot for him. I know that she would forgive him were she given the opportunity. I means she couldn't even stay mad at him after their break up. It was more like she got the sense that the end was near... she made him a really nice set of armor because she had a feeling he was going to take off after the last battle and she wanted him to stay safe.

He turned into a demon in the Spire, which I think is why he was more human-like when he was with Rhys- he was able to wear the faces, as he tells you in Therinfal when talking about Envy. When you first talk to him in Skyhold, he says after that he became more like himself, more a spirit. He could blend in less, but help more. Now, to me, trying Solas' advice feels like resetting Cole back to square one. He was once purely Compassion, and look at where it got him in Asunder. I feared he might try that path again, make the same mistakes.
After that it's really just degrees. He's always unique, and he's always a blend of spirit and human. I do agree the Orlesian noble scene is soul-deadening, lol. She took him to the wrong place to have his epiphany about being a spirit. Should have gone somewhere with fewer pampered gits.

I think my Lavellan is one of the few who was wary of Cole, he was a curiosity that wormed his way into her guarded heart. Her protective instincts flared up every once in a while because he can be child-like and you don't mess with the elvhen da'vhen but she didn't view him as her kid any more than she did Dorian.

The thing that bothers me about Rainier is that he really should have just lugged Real Blackwall's body to the Warden base, and told them what happened.
A) The Wardens believe him. They give Blackwall his burial rites, and Thom Rainier undergoes the Joining.
B)The Wardens don't believe him. They recruit him anyway for being crazy enough to try to slip one past them, and being skilled enough to kill Blackwall.
I mean, Option B is similar enough to what happened with Duncan. The Wardens accept anyone, and do their best to turn sacrifice into victory.
But of course Rainier would never think of the Wardens that way. He's hopelessly, infuriatingly idealistic about them. The same characteristic that makes me dislike him makes it impossible for me to not like them. *sigh* Way to complicate my gaming life, Tommy boy.
