Oh, I'm not saying that people should be attracted to Solas by any means. People are into different things. But the idea of turning around and modding him to be more acceptable reminds me of all of the "less manly cass mods when?" threads. Bleh, maybe it's just tumblr making me cynical.

Tumblr has that effect on people! I wasn't aiming that post at anyone in particular, I was just offering some defense to the people who may not find that aspect of him attractive.  I never pay much attention to the mods that come out because I'm on xbox one, and I can't use them. I wish I could though because even though I'm fine with Solas not having any hair, I am not fine with my inquisitor having bad hair!

My Lavellan doesn't see Cole as a small child, but she still sees him like a son.  The equivalent in her mind is something close to the da'len hunters in a clan.  He can fight to protect the clan and be helpful, and that's encouraged.  But she does worry about him, which is why she always keeps him close instead of sending him out on his own or with others on missions.  She made Cole more spirit, because she wanted to do what was best for Cole, and she trusted Solas' judgment about spirits.  Sometimes he's difficult for her to understand, but she considers that something she needs to learn.  Mostly she's happy that he's happy, and she feels better knowing that he can return to the Fade when he wants, should there ever be a time when she can't be there for him anymore...  That's his choice.

Oh, sorry. My Lavellan doesn't see him as a small child either, I just imagine Solas snarked about it because she frequently fretted over him like one, and I imagine she fretted over him like one because she simply doesn't know how else to treat him. Cole is a rather unique individual; a spirit that came through the Veil and assumed the form of a person and developed rather complex human emotions even before you help him with his quest. She worries and cares about him and wants him to be safe and happy, but doesn't know how to show it (because she's never had a younger brother or son either), and so shows it the only way she knows how.

I imagine though that my Lavellan came from different circumstances. Her parents were city elves who fled to the Dalish when she was a baby because her brother started showing signs of magic. Her mother and older brother never fully adapted to Dalish life and so raised her with some city elven values, but her younger half-sister was born among the Dalish. Since she grew up seeing lines being blurred ("city elf" verses "Dalish elf," "pure elf" verses "flat-ear"), she understands and empathizes with Cole's blurred line between spirit and human. I think she ultimately helps him become more human partly because she grew up hearing some (but not all) Dalish (mostly from other clans) say she can't be truly Dalish or elven because she was born in the city. So she comes at it with a subconscious, "F THAT. I can be truly Dalish and elven if I want, we elves can be free and self-governing if we want, and Cole can become human if he wants. We can all change if we really want to and are willing to make the sacrifices and hard work necessary inside and out."

Honestly though, I'm unhappy about a lot of the decisions my Lavellan made during this playthrough, so when Solas' mysterious third quest finally gets debugged, I'm going to play again from the first moment she gets to Skyhold. In particular, I'm going to have her talk to Cole more often and bring him around more often, because the amount of time I actually interacted with him this game does not reflect how much I imagine my Lavellan cares about him inside.

Why is it that when people change Solas' eyebrows, nobody is outraged but when it's Cassandra's eyebrows everyone goes nuts. Is it because she's female?

Has it been confirmed that there is a third quest? I'm starting to wonder if it's not just another thing that's in the guide but was ultimately cut from the game.

I'm hoping patch 3 fixes the artifact one.

I am likely late too late to the conversation to add anything of interest, but I've always wanted to see what everyone here internalized about the relationship between Lavellan/Cole/Solas. It's amazing to see so many different takes on the dynamic (and so many differing decisions) with such gracious and well-thought out reasoning. So I'm glad to have been able to stop by when it's the current topic for discussion, haha.

My Lavellan is/was incredibly gregarious.  She loves being liked and carved out a nice new family with the Inquisition - she was pretty close with everyone except maybe Bull and Vivienne.  Outside of her relationship with Solas, she was closest with Cassandra for obvious reasons(Cassandra is Queen...if it's not obvious).  She viewed Cole like a little brother mostly because he looked younger than her but then he was incredibly insightful.  It was a weird friendship.  She just wants to be encouraging with him.  She was so proud after Corypheus, when he was all "HE COULDN'T BIND ME. DID YOU SEE ME?"[True Story: I was bummed about Solas leaving and then Cole said that and I was like 'omg too sweet' everyone let's party.  who is solas?].  She actually bonded with Varric after Solas dumps her.  He has a lot of wise words about Bianca and he helped give her some perspective.  She was pretty bummed when he left for Kirkwall.  Amazingly,  I managed to NOT kill my clan with my first play through so my Lavellan is really excited to visit Varric when she goes up to Wycome to see her clan.

People are getting disagreeable about Solas Hair mods and I'm just thinking "why care"? I rather people shared the mods that they made than keep it to themselves.

All this play-as-intended makes me want to do something malicious, like make Cullen look more like a meth addict.

Forget the hair mods. They need a clothing mod.in which Solas only wears leather pants and a wolf pelt. lmao

So in the timeline, presuming the wiki doesn't mess with my precious formatting, I have the year, beginning and end of Blights, and the start of all the dates (Tevinter Empire founded and the beginning of Andrastian Ages) bolded. Are there are other kinds of events like that you lot would recommend bolding to make things easier for us to find and reference? Not anything specific to one theory, mind.

I don't care for the Solas eyebrow mods I've seen, they change his face too much. But I don't really do outrage over mods.

I'm skeptical as well. I'm thinking something close to how the tarot cards were released looking unfinished because it was sent out too early.

Let's go deeper and make it latex.

I imagine the three of them being close friends. They just seem so natural on Cole's quest, trying to solve the problem together. I guess my Lavellan had more of a sibling vibe with Cole rather than a motherly one, because I headcanon her as having a brother back with her clan....who is really just my male Lavellan who I made to romance Dorian (in an alternate reality where he went to the conclave instead of her, lol)

I love that first little hand gesture he does when he responds to Cassandra in the prologue. Where he holds his hands together in front of him? Lavellan can love it, too. ;) *I* thought it was absolutely adorable. I didn't even care when I saw that it was apparently a stock animation that a lot of ppl, like Cassandra, do too.

"You want to talk about me? I'm flattered! Also inclined to dance like a dipper bird."

Oh, God. I laughed SO loud just now. Heard it in his voice and everything! XD

And yet just as I say that I come across something that makes me glad I browse tumblr.

Someone relating Solavellan to "Written in the Stars" from Aida (the broadway musical). It fits so well and it makes me sad.

That chorus.

Is it written in the stars
Are we paying for some crime
Is that all that we are good for
Just a stretch of mortal time

Or some god's experiment
In which we have no say
In which we're given paradise
But only for a day

Don't ask me. I'm not a fan of modding the appearance of either. :P

Ugh, that patch looks completely useless. Only thing I've experienced on there is sometimes you can't switch to other party members. Reloading always fixed that.

All that multiplayer stuff makes me madface.

Awwww, hey now. That key glitch fix has been desperately needed on the MP side of things. It's bad enough on PS4, but sounds like it's nigh unplayable on PC due to that. I know MP isn't everyone's bag, but there's some of us here who like it well enough. :P

What concerns me more is zero mention of it fixing Solas's OTHER glitched quest, "What Lies Dormant," which isn't firing at all. It only mentions the spawning issue for "All New, Faded For Her." :(

It could be coincidence, but I do noticed that Solas - like Zevran - stays relatively close to the player, even when you toggle his tactics. Whether he's friends with them or not, he knows the Inquisitor is literally the only person in Thedas that can stop whatever is happening, so he protects them.

and i am still so in love with the fact that he watches lavellan even when she's looking away just omg

Heh, yeah, Solas is quite the protector. I am so, so glad I caught this footage because it's classic Solavellan. T'was my first playthrough and I hit THAT Fade Rift in the Hinterlands, under-leveled for it... was also still figuring things out so I herp-a-derped through the thing and also didn't realize you could revive people... so, things went horribad but Solas was THERE for my Lavellan. Had two extremely significant last-minute barriers to save the day and casting the last one on her basically cost him his life in that very last moment, but it was just the boost she needed to end the fight and miraculously raise everyone back up.

I got the impression that Blackwall's weakness was cowardice. He ran away. I think he even admits it in the dog story he tells to the Inquisitor.

Come to think of it, all companions have a glaring vice:

Cassandra --> too rash

Iron Ball --> blind acceptance

Sera--> prejudice

Cole--> naivety

Varric--> Bianca

Vivienne--> too ambitious

Dorian--> Not wearing the other half of his armour in Ferelden and complaining about cold...?

Solas--> Not 'Pride'. It most likely was his past vice, which is now a moniker to constantly remind him of his loss. Every time someone calls him 'Solas' is a slap to the face.

I can still see him as prideful. I think one of the first "elf topic" conversations you have (the city elf one?), you can ask why he doesn't share his knowledge. He notes that it would be futile. You then reply that he has already decided the elves' reaction for them.

He has the weight of years on his side and can still be surprised, but I feel that he still has a tendency to "know better."

I am still bothered by his "The Dalish did one thing right" comment. That he views Lavellan as exceptional--as in the exception is problematic for me. He tends to look at the world macroscopically and generalize the collective. He pulls back and is surprised when individuals push against his pre-conceived notions about them. But I am not sure that is enough.

Does Solas comment on the Inquisitor's specialisation if she becomes a Rift Mage? Is it bugged? It's the only specialisation that got me no remarks from any of the companions.

Can we talk about the eyebrows in this game? And how I would GLADLY accept an eyebrows only mod that fixes the dang things?

Big brows can be beautiful - see Lily Collins - but NO ONE looks good with pipe cleaner hairy caterpillars of death bristle. Even the best manly brows I can imagine are well kept. See Lee Pace. See James Bond era Sean Connery.

I would have interpret the brows as natural but they probably need more stray hairs to be convincing.

I need to ask another dumb question about the Solas romance. I restarted (because I wanted better eyebrows, ironically) and I just got back in Skyhold. Fade kiss, done. When I go back to his Mural Room he's sitting and doing the tea thing. Can I put off talking to him until I'm ready to go to the Exalted Plains? I mean, I don't want to say, "Sure, it sounds really important" and then spend weeks traipsing around the Western Approach, because that just seems mean.
