Sounds to me like dwarves who were locked in the sealed Thaigs turning to.. God cannabalism, But what does that mean? Consuming lyrium? Too many deep mushrooms? They clearly weren't eating darkspawn flesh because we know how that goes thanks to Branka.

I'm not sure what to think of the Profane. I'm guessing Blight tainted dwarves or elves who ate the red lyrium/corrupted Titans out of desperation and were twisted into monsters?

"The profane have lingered in this place for ages beyond memory, feeding on the magic stones until the need is all they know."

So, yep, they were eating lyrium. Creepy.

Here's the rest of the info on them:

Spoiler

Those that speak of them tend to call them rock wraiths, though they seem to refer to themselves as the profane. This may be because they feel that they were abandoned, although it is unclear by whom. A poem found by a Helmi scrawled on the walls of Revann Thaig in the Exalted Age implies that when trapped or abandoned aeons ago, the profane "feasted upon the gods". This may suggest that the profane were once dwarves who were forced to consume red lyrium (which seems to have had religious significance to the primeval dwarves) to survive, but what is exactly meant is unknown. The word profane literally means "outside the fane [temple]", i.e., contemptuous of a god or religion.

After Solas leaves at the end of the game there was a book on his table at Skyhold. It was a stone looking texture with a skull on it that had a mystical blue glow coming from the eyes of the skull. Had that book always been there or does that have some meaning too it appearing after his disappearance?

Are you talking about the shard? If so, it's been there all along. It's one of those you pick up everywhere during the game.

I'm pretty sure it's not a book, but one of those shards you need to collect to get into the Solasan Temple. At least it looks like one. Also, it was always on his table, ever since you moved into Skyhold.

It's not a book. It's one of the shards. The shards you find with the oculara that open the Solasan temple. It could be a hint that the temple was where Solas had been sleeping away the last few thousand years (which I think is likely), but he's probably also just studying the thing. He's the Inquisition's expert on all things magical, after all.

"Fixed issue with the demon that could spawn during Solas’s personal quest."
I wonder what this means? Was there supposed to be a demon during Measuring the Veil that would trigger What lies Dormant?
I'm guessing this also means that the only way to trigger this is to restart a new game? XD Since I've already done that q :P

Favourite character.  He's definitely a character who you can theorise about his motivations and what holds meaning to him for hours.  I personally think that all of his 'I learned it in the fade' stuff is his own way of deceiving you about his origins.  He can easily say that he attended many balls in the fade, but if you question him about it at Skyhold, he stumbles a bit and you lose approval with him.  It's his way of admitting personal experience with something without admitting personal experience of something.  He knows about the wars because he was there.  He knows about balls because he was there, etc.  I've also seen a lot of people labelling him as potentially the next antagonist but I can't see that.  If it does happen I would be really, really disappointed.  There is so much opportunity to surprise with this character, especially now that we've learned that most of the Dalish knowledge of him is incorrect, Abelas even states as much, so it's not just his own actions.  Though I do agree with something I saw elsewhere, where everyone runs the risk of being an acceptable loss in his plans if they get in the way.  It will be interesting to see what Bioware do with such a well written character, especially when there's so much potential.  Would be interesting if DLC allowed you to expand upon your romance with him, if your Lavellan romanced him.  Not galloping off into the sunset, but perhaps a form of unspoken commitment after your Lavellan understands what he's up to.

...I'm also upset that there is a mod out that removes Solas' freckles. I try not to be bothered by it but...I have freckles. If someone dislikes Solas' freckles enough to remove them (and they're barely visible in the first place), I wonder what they're thinking when they look at people with freckles as well. :(

Maybe it's just my apparently ancient video card (seriously, I feel like I JUST got this thing and it can barely handle DAI on high settings), but I can't even see his freckles unless the camera is right up on his face, and the scene has the lighting to reveal them. He's got the Jensen Ackles brand of freckles, super charming on dimly-lit close shots, but practically invisible otherwise.

That said, I'd never use a mod to change his appearance. Solas is practically perfect in every way. Fact.

Just want to point out that it's adorable to me that Rift Mage icon looks like a Cthulhu. Subtle hints abound.

Relative screenshot:
Spoiler

That's the little nook in the Exalted plains near the Dalish camp. The book is one about Fen'harel. And there's a Cthulhu skull on the bench beside it. Not creepy at all. Nope.

That's alright! And welcome to the Solas thread. :) If you're so inclined, then stick around and take part in the theorizing. I know I went back through the game with a fine-toothed comb after the reveal because I wanted to know so much more about Solas.

Yep that is what I'm about to do now even though I had normally payed close attention to what he would say. I had always suspected he was up to something an the ending couldn't have been much better for a cliff hanger. I can't wait for the next game in the series!

They do it ALL THE TIME and I'm frankly insulted. XD Two of my uncles are bald, and they're the best handwarmers ever. And, they're awesome, lovely people. The only good men in my life.

I know that feeling. I think people forget that when they insult the physical (or personality) traits of fictional characters, they're inadvertently bashing real people who share those traits... which is hurtful to the loved ones of those being bashed too.

Remove his freckles?? Why would they want to remove his wonderful freckles?? I love freckles personally. My little sister has them, and they're absolutely beautiful.

...resisting the urge to go on a rant about the Body-shaming behaviors of society here, because it's a very important topic to me and I'm too sleepy to make the rant an intelligent one XD Just remember, your body isn't there for anyone but you. YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL <3 and SCREW THE HATERS.

... why Deadpool? Because he screws haters. idk. I'm too tired lol

Yep. It's actually kinda funny how disinterested most people were in him in hindsight. If you want a better sense of how the BSN reacted to him at first, then here's an interesting thread from last march. Bonus for a hilariously prescient OP.

I have a save before starting Measuring the Veil, but it's so far back, I'm not going bother yet. Hopefully someone on a new PT can confirm that What Lies Dormant gets triggered now. Sure wish they'd just be blunt about what actually got addressed.

"Fixed issue that prevented "What Lies Dormant" from triggering for most players."

See? Not spoilery at all. Was it really so difficult? Grr.

And, since All New, Faded For Her stars a demon, it could be referring to that, even though I don't know of anyone having issues with it. So, it would have been super nice to get the quest name at least.

I had an issue with this demon, once. Coming close to him/her/it didn't trigger the cutscene, which made it impossible to finish the quest  :)

I approve of the name Luna. I'm not completely biased because of this person either:

However if you just so happened to get the DAI Hair Recolor Tool, and just so happened to give her blue hair. Well, she'd be just perfect.

Sorry to nitpick and for catching up so later, but I have a few adjustments. :)
Free Marches=Holy Roman Empire. (A group of former 'barbarians' in a very loose confederation that quarrel with each other but often band together against invaders with an impressive army? Bordered by the French and Italian analogues? They just lack an Emperor, though there's certainly been a few who've tried to change that.)

Well, sounds also pretty much like the German situation of that time to me. The country devised/split into many different regions, rules by various nobles, some of them regional kings, most of them hating each other but uniting against a common foe if needed (and often failing, but whatever). I do not think this can be assigned uniquely to any country or time. So, I cannot actually disagree with the original poster.

I agree with you on Rivain and Antiva, but about Nevarra I think the original poster had a point. All that Mortalitasi and necromancy aura does match Bulgaria/Transilvania/related regions. They still hold on to such believes and traditions even today. Blood feud is still common etc.
What you said can be seen that way, however, so I assume no DA country is a single real one, but more a blend of different of our nations.
I agree on Anderfels, but again I see how this also includes traces of other events/nations.

And the Qunari (their posture, the Qun, their sturdiness, mentality etc.) let Russia come to mind, at least for me. The Qun does sound like an exaggerated or twisted form of communism to me, so I cannot prevent thinking of the USSR. Sure, it is no exact copy, but no country in Thedas is.

I hope as hell that it doesn't mean they only fixed the demon in All new, Faded for her from not spawning..
Tbh it always spawned correctly for me, and I don't think that was the reason why What lies dormant was not triggered..?

Oh god now I feel worried :/ it says at the top "as a spawning issue in Solas’s personal quest".
What if it just refers to that one and they haven't fixed What lies dormant at all?

I agree with much of this, but the German comment confuses me. :) The Holy Roman Empire, generally speaking, consisting of modern-day Germany, Austria, and part of Italy, at times the Low Countries.

And yeah, they definitely have blends of countries, they're not carbon copies.

I might so be tempted to ask you to share your save with me later on just to see that quest. I dunno if I can be bothered to restart a new playthrough again from 0 for the 4th time just for that quest.. oh god :/

Now I dunno if I should keep playing cause if it is THAT relevant I might just ditch my 27 hrs solas romance pt and start one again.. but until then I'm not sure I wanna keep playing if I have to restart later anyway..

Oh no xD What will I do to quench my Solas thirst meanwhile? Damnit Bioware release the patch already XD

As I've understood it, does *all new, faded for her* even have anything to do with *What lies dormant*? I though it was conected to the artifacts and suppoused to trigger when you have 10 of them...

I just hope this ' patch' doesn't screw up the game for me (like the ones for DAO & DAII always did)

If it works though the quest should be there even right before the game ending, shouldn't it. You shouldn't need to restart a game... or?

I dunno :/ I'm kinda getting sad about it.. I think they didn't fix What lies dormant at all, just the spawning of All new, Faded for her.

Seems like I'm not the only one with this idea also :/
