Not incredibly supportive but I kept thinking: "Fight, fight, fight!"

It's less of a gender thing and more of a relationship opinion.

My comment was in reference to Colonel giving his opinion, as a male ( he stated this several comments ago). He then went on to throw around 'disney' and 'twilight' in reference to players that disagree with his interpretation that Solas and the IQ had sex. He seems to imply that he knows better because Solas is a male, he's a male, therefore his male interpretation is cannon. And oh, any dissenting opinions are 'crocks of ****' cause you know, ladiez are delusional and like Twilight. Not cool.

However, Solas' stance on this says a lot about him and his inner struggle. And it makes me wonder if making Cole more human might infuse some needed optimism into the overall theme of starting over or adapting/changing.
I am fatalistic like Solas and believe that often it's near impossible to change out nature. And why should we even do that? Hence I went with making Cole more like a spirit. BUT we all need to change constantly in small ways because everything around us changes too. I feel like this is the core of DAI. And the problem with (modern) religion. We see rules as immutable. Especially religious practises. Many people are afraid of new things because they erase the familiar and replace it with new ideas that seem threatening. Nostalgia makes us think the old ways were better and that we need to keep those well-established rules. But as society changes, so must the rules. And we along with them.
We cannot change our very nature (Cole will never be fully human) but we can adept. Solas is a paradox, he is a rebel, an agent of change, yet he rejects the change he has brought. He is unwilling to accept the current age and the good things in it. He wants freedom for everyone but not by working with new rules and new possibility, he seems to want some kind of reset. To restore us all to our true nature. He wants everyone to be Cole.

Well said. Yeah, I got the sense Solas was projecting a lot of his own feelings onto Cole there. We know from the banter between them that he envies Cole.

And yes, he reminds me a bit of Fenris, in the way he values freedom and free will on the one hand, but also seems to have an underlying anxiety about change deep down. For Fenris, I think it came from having been a slave. It was a freedom versus security thing. He was physically free, but emotionally and subconsciously, still tied to the idea of having a master, because he desired security in a world where he wouldn't always have slavers at his back. Flemeth says as much, if you take him to Sundermount. She says something like "the chains are broken but you are not free". Anders does the same thing. For all his talk about mage freedom, he is quick to look to Hawke for protection and is terrified of the templars. But to be free is to accept this possibility of risk and imperfection. Anders never really resolves this inner conflict, until the very end if you spare him, in the romance. He says something like "I'd rather be on the run with you, than safe with anybody else".

Solas is like that. He values freedom, but is haunted by the fact that freedom never lasts and is alway imperfect. This is where the duality comes from, maybe.

I didn't say women are delusional either.

All-consuming, and never satisfied - Solas constantly wants to learn more about the fade an he makes friends with spirits. He tells the inquisitor about how nice it would be for the spirits/fade to co-exist with mortal life. His specialization is a Rift-Mage. When Morrigan transforms into a bird an flys after Abelas to stop him from destroying the Well of Sorrows Solas acts as if it doesn't matter at all, like he knows its power is inferior.

To the Fade you shall return each night in dreams - We all know that Solas goes into the fade when he sleeps.

So with that being said has anyone else thought this or proven it to bare no merrit? I would really like so feedback on this theory I've come up with.

What I really want is the explanation of "Whatever you need, we can find it together!" - "No, we can't. You'll see." Because I really and honestly don't see why Solas can't take Lavellan on his mission. I'm scared that the developers think that "because he's a god and she's a mortal and he must do it alone" is answer enough. Because nope, not for me, it isn't.

In other news, I've been reading the old Bioware Twitter thread, http://forum.bioware...bioware=1&bwp=1and I found out something interesting: when it comes to romances, cutscenes and design and visual acting is much more expensive than simple conversations with voice-acting(there are a few developer posts on the subject). So it seems to me that they could've added one or two extra Solas conversations without full animation, and it's really a pity they never did. We could've talked to him after the Fade, for example.

You know, we have four female romances this time around - three of them have obvious sexual scenes in them. But yes, go around and pretend like the fourth option has to be sexual, too. Not to mention that kissing doesn't have to be seen as something sexual at all. There are asexuals that are fine with kissing, heck, there are even asexuals that enjoy sex. For different reasons.

I'm demisexual myself, so getting a romance option that doesn't force sex scenes on you is great for me - and a good handful of other people on the ace spectrum. So yeah, I roleplay my Lavellans as girls that did not do the deed with him, but possible would have in the future. But guess what happened? Tears happened.

As a fellow demisexual person, yes. I was so happy that the first romance I chose did not have a sex scene, and whenever I see people saying that Solas and Lavellan were definitely having sex--no matter the Lavellan--it always makes me uncomfortable. I've got one that would have wanted to if he hadn't broken up with her when he did and one that... probably would've broken up with him eventually if he hadn't done it first, honestly. She also did not have sex with Solas.

Of course, I have no problem with people deciding their Lavellans did have sex with him, and if by some miracle he comes back and there's an optional sex scene or something I wouldn't mind. I just want there to be a choice, if possible.

I do have to correct your first statement, though--of the romances available to female Inquisitors, there are actually three that don't have required sex scenes! c: Solas, Josephine, and Blackwall (you don't have to wake up naked and alone in the barn, IIRC). Cullen, Sera, and Iron Bull are the only three that have required sex scenes. (Cassandra also does, but she's only available to male Inquisitors; Dorian is also only available to male Inquisitors, but you don't have to have a sex scene with him, either.)

Eh, don't worry about the tone trolling. Guy was pushing some sexist buttons; it's not uncommon for the people that respond negatively to be told to be nice. Your post was fine.

hm, I'm reading through the thread and see nothing sexist about Colonelkillabee's conversations. You're getting too heated over a disagreement.

I don't care much about the sex argument but I have attempted to keep people grounded from the idea what Solas is benevolent that outshines all of his flaws. The attempt is futile since it's like saying tilapia is a poor person's fish because they wanted a cheaper catfish. Sure Tilapia is cheaper but it's still a good fish, sometimes restaurants trick you by listing it like catfish such as if fried. Sometimes I think some are projection themselves on their Lavellans and dreaming about it.

Aw, I love Viv.  She's intelligent, badass, and cold as ice. Probably not the kind of person I'd care to be friends with irl, but I respect her achievements. She sort of took my dalish inquisitor under her wing, I think, which bemused my Lavellan. Vivienne's quite motherly, which is when she displays her gentler side. Her banter with Solas is amazing, too. She's one of the few characters who can match him for wits and wordplay.

Really? I got one approval bump from her, for saying the chaos benefits no one, then it was all downhill from there. I think her furniture re-arranging was just silly. I do like some of her banter but I think she's in the Sebastian category for me. Appreciate some of his banter, can't stand the character and really have no use for them as a party member. I wouldn't even recruit her if not for the KE spec. She's more interesting as an NPC out in the world, but seems out of place for me at Skyhold.

I also can't really respect her accomplishments when she got there by sleeping with a duke and considers it natural for the rest of the mages to be locked up. That puts her in Wynne category for me.

And re: Cole. I made him human because it made for the best character arc imo. At certain points he says that he chose to make himself "forget" the Fade. Like in that stargazing banter with Solas in the hissing wastes. He's making a concerted effort to become "more real", and he is consciously severing ties with his spirit side in order to better be able to help people.

This goes both ways, however, since he can help more people and is more sensitive to their needs as a spirit. As more human, he can relate to them, but is more limited.

Solas seems to envy a great many people. He says this about Sera to a non-elven Inquisitor he has high approval with:

m7lhCTN.png6oAvGX3.png

He's a jaded idealist. He knows things are complicated, but he wishes they weren't. I think that's why he loves the Fade so much. It's pure purpose, ideals made real. In the Fade, nothing distinguishes what you believe from what is. Aw, Solas. :( I bet he wishes he could let go, but he just can't. He envies Sera's ability to not give a sh*t about either the past or future, and Spirit!Cole's ability to make himself forget.

Yeah, I hope BW doesn't go the Anders' route and make Solas' plans so batshit crazy that we can't support him. I would love to have the option of my quizzie supporting him. A DLC where she finds out who he is and what he's planning and gets to confront and, then, support him would be awesome. I want her to be able to say, "I know who you are and I still love you. I wish you'd told me of your plans. I support you. You're not alone anymore."

Well yes. This whole game is a way to project, as are most games now. Especially one's with RP elements like this. It caters for whatever you want to get from it. Want to be the strong badass that can cut someone in half, or the intelligent leader making decisions that'll change the world, or the person that is uniquely touched by unmatched magic, or the person that is adored and wanted by someone/everyone. Or just spend a few hours somewhere new and different. It's a bit of escape and I'm glad for it. Life can be wonderful but sometimes it's good to take a break.

It's ok. I don't mind the POV. I like make twilight paralells. And Nimue with Merlin. And the last unicorn. Satin too. Some snuffle at the analogies but while twilight isn't an original analogy to the relationship, it's the most relevant in pop culture.

Ohh, I completely forgot about Josy! I knew that Doran doesn't have a required scene, but I never knew that Blackwall doesn't have one, either. That's interesting! I think I will make a female Qunari that romances him, then. It definitely makes his romance more 'bearable', seeing how his romance is pretty dramatic, too, and I would feel really uncomfortable playing a Quizzie that does the deed with him only to get left behind and learn about his dark past.

Yep! I haven't done it myself, but apparently you can just hang out and get drinks with him or something instead and it doesn't end the romance. It's probably what I'll end up doing if I make an Inquisitor to romance him as well. c: I popped into the Blackwall thread once to see what was going on and they were talking about it, haha.

Well, I'd be lying if I said I didn't mean for it to be negative. Could have said something like, say, Pride and Prejudice I guess, since there's no sex (nothing alike though) or maybe Jane Eyre. P and P has that sort of young feel I was talking about. A cutesy story. Jane Eyre is much more focused on emotions than anything else. Not really a romance novel, but there's romance in it.

Apparently you can get drinks with him or something instead--I've never seen it myself. For Dorian, you can ask if you can take things slow, and then you have a conversation with him and he kisses the Inquisitor and leaves without taking things further than that.
