I'm not sure if this one has been posted before, but while I was walking in Exalted Plains I found this:

In the middle there is Fen'harel, The Dread Wolf book and on the side there's a skull with tentacles looking a lot like this:

This has probably been done before. Maybe I'm just looking iinto it waayy too much.![]()
I thought about this as well, especially because of the pantheon mosaics. Bioware is such a cthulhu nerd it could be just another simple homage, though. Dragon, octopus elves. heheh
My Solas moment isn't as cute as everyone else's were and are, but.... I chose an elf after having such a grand time as Mahariel in Origins; plus, I figured it would be either Cullen or Solas for me. The elves always tend to steal my heart somehow, but Cullen interested me since he was a familiar face. Anyway I was basically liveblogging the entire prologue for an interested friend, and then here come Solas and Varric. Solas grabs my Lavellan's hand and I'm like "Ohoho, aren't you cute then." My friend informs me that Solas and my Lavellan are basically destined for each other now by the laws of romance stories everywhere; the one you meet and interact with first is the one. Though I'm not a fan of that trope, how right she was. How right she was.

Mine was when he said "thank you" after the first flirt in Haven...I could not get over the expression on his face of surprise and pleasure, and all was lost.
The chucklesnort. I thought he was cute when he smiled, and just about died when I heard him laugh.
See, this is why I so badly want a happy ending for Solas and Lavellan. His smile and laugh are just amazing, and I love Halamshiral because it's the only time when he lets down his guard for an extended period, and he's so happy. I want to see him happy like that with Lavellan, so happy he drops that guard for good.
The chuckle-snort is paramount, haha. I think it's part of what makes his romance so special, since Lavellan gives him no small measure of happiness and levity. If only for a time. :,)

It took me some time to warm up to Solas. The hand grab scene didnt affect me much. I guess I was still feeling the after effects of being treated like a criminal lol.
When I started asking about the fade and learning new things. That was it for me. Never have I attentively listened to a conversation as I did then . The whole idea of spirits etc did seem fascinating. When the focus/grace dialogue came up..eyes went wide open. So he is wise and a smooth talker
My sister on the other hand found it extremely dry and boring and cant understand why am I even bothered. She is fixated on Dorian.
Same here. I don't think there was one moment or I instantly liked him. I warmed up to him over time, based on asking questions, getting to know him, and learning of his wonderful personality.
lol My sister is like that too. I tend to like the Solases of the world, and she loves her Dorians. ![]()

I thought Solas was kind of a cool character, but while pleasant company, I was more interested in how much more likable Cassandra was for the early part of the Haven quests. But I loved Solas's little lectures on the Fade, and brought him along as my nerd buddy. Then party banter happened. So much sass. ![]()
So he quickly became the mainstay of my party, and I thought he was a very cool character.
Then In Your Heart Shall Burn.
While most of the Inquisition is singing their little hearts out, and the Herald looked grumpy at being silent in an impromptu musical number, the camera cuts to Solas staring at the whole scene with a downright devious expression. Calculating how to turn near total defeat into the turning point in the Inquisition's favor.
The whole scene where he takes you aside and basically becomes responsible for your rise as Inquisitor, sealing you as the Herald of Andraste, and gives you your stronghold with an excellent grasp of both psychology and story-telling, and does it so casually...
Solas basically became the mentor figure and man behind the man to the whole shebang. I loved that. But it didn't fit with his backstory, so I kept turning over details, obsessively keeping him in my party. It became my pet theory that he was Fen'harel.
Naturally I started up a Lavellan for him. If I'd thought he was shockingly suave before... ![]()

That part... where everyone is singing... and he is wearing that face... that was why I started calling him "Snarky Faced Elf." It's also where I realized he was going to be the most interesting character in the game as well as a staple to my party.
I like to think that his telling us about 'barbarian humans, holding tunes no Chantry choir has ever matched' was a sneaky FU to the quality of the Inquisition's singing.
"I must bring back the glory of Arlathan: Barbershop quartets!" The real reason Solas is so cleanly shaven.

That's the part where I knew he wanted to devour my Levellan. *ahem*
Because, YOU KNOW how

I love how he's such a sobering influence over such a beautiful moment. XD
Yet, it's a beautiful moment based on a beautiful lie people tell themselves to make themselves feel better. Solas is honest enough to say, "Let's be real: the cause of the chaos was an elven artifact, and they'll jump at the chance to vilify the elves if they got it. Also, we're in serious trouble. Pretty words and songs are nice, but they're just words and songs. People say they love you now, but it'll fade if you don't have the trappings of a king to show for it. Corypheus could also attack again, and you need an actual, defensible fortress to stand up to him a second time. Here's my practical, real-world solution to this actual, real-world problem. I have exactly what you need to succeed, not what I want to feel better."

See now I'm just imagining my party decked out in those stereotypical little straw hats and bowties you always see in the movies with regards to barbershop quartets. ![]()

Oh... he had what she needed, alright... he did have that going for him.
Is that a double entendre?
Also, I love how he coaches you to scout ahead and act like you're the one who discovered Skyhold. I thought it was odd during my first playthrough that Solas didn't just come out and tell everyone where Skyhold was, then I realized he was setting it up so you would look like that much more of the in-control leader and inspiring hero. He's using his knowledge of human nature and politics to set you up as the figurehead you need to be to stop Corypheus. He's helping the "spark" of faith and loyalty Justinia lights at the camp after the destruction of Haven spread into a wildfire that engulfs Southern Thedas. And is completely fine standing back and letting you take all the credit while he watches and helps from the shadows. I don't know why, but that impressed the heck out of me.
I gotta say too, that scene was so much more powerful when you've flirted with / planning to romance him. Having just played as a male Lavellan, it doesn't feel nearly as powerful. He's kind of the quiet, aloof, mysterious apostate who gives only vague answers about his past and keeps himself a respectable distance from everyone, then just kind of says "I know a solution" out of the blue and fades into the background again.
When you've flirted before, spent more time together, and/or your Lavellan fancies him, it feels like you two are more equal partners. You two build the Inquisition together. He gives you the knowledge and instructions you need, and you go forth carrying out the task. You two restore the damage your enemy has caused. You two work toward rebuilding and stopping him.
I don't know why, but this scene... really, really works. Just another way the romance enhances the story, and feeling less like an enjoyable side-quest.
For anyone interested, I finally found that codex about the Pools of the Sun. It's the landmark in the first arena in Emprise. Had to kill the Hivernal to get at it.
Pools of the Sun
According to our legends, what remains of the sun's heat--left in the earth when Elgar'nan threw the sun from
the sky and buried it in the abyss--heats the hot springs in the Dales. The waters of the spring have healing
qualities; we have always treated them as sacred. Then, of course, Orlesians moved in, scarring them with
their garish statuary. But fate is just. Last I heard, dragons had claimed the territory. Let's hope the beasts
made a meal of fat nobles who couldn't escape in time.
-Penned by an unknown Dalish elf

Team pessimist! GOooo!!
Spoiler
*snip*
...so, this is the reason I could never romance anyone else. All these scenes just scream "chemistry!" and feel so much more powerful if you are romancing Solas.
/fangirl ramblings finished/
Guys I just updated my game with patch 3. The quest What lies dormant is not triggering for me ._. -.- maybe I missed a couple of artifacts. I cant even see "all new faded for her " on my completed quest list
I took Solas out and got one of the artifacts I hadn't activated yet. As soon as I activated it the war mission popped up "Measuring the Veil". After you do that (19hr) mission "What Lies Dormant" becomes available.
