It would be interesting if it was originally the case that everyone was blighted. That's why everything sung the same in the beginning. Perhaps the Archdemons and darkspawn were only trying to return things to the way they were. That's also why only blighted creatures can hear the Old Gods sing.

Here's a song that's appropriate for Solavellan post-breakup. Most probably after the defeat of Cory and Solas leaves.  :(

EDIT: Ugh! This is definitely my Tala Lavellan's endgame song. TT___TT

That's also why only blighted creatures can hear the Old Gods sing.

Western Approach. Shimmerstone Mine, near a quarry you can claim in the south.  It's vibrating when you claim it.  Warden documents indicate that there is actual, physical singing from an Old God deep under the pit, but all attempts to reach it have failed due to tunnel collapses.

No doubt this is why the Wardens are stationed in the Western Approach in numbers.

The only point I'm making is that as one gets close to it, the song becomes a real, physical tune that anyone can hear.  The psychic component may or may not be limited to the Blighted; I suspect the priests of ancient Tevinter could hear the songs just fine.

I always play this song when I'm roaming around the map thinking my Lavellan is aimlessly searching for Solas, hoping she would eventually bump into him while she continues being the inquisitor.

Wow, that cover is not what I expected (I remember the fast version), but it's absolutely beautiful! I can't for the life of me find anywhere to buy it (you can just download it directly), so I bought the artist's EP on iTunes instead. Dark Star is pretty good too actually.

Also: the lyrics seem so much more sad in the slowed down version. You listen to this searching for Solas? Ouch! :( Though I can't say I blame you. I traveled back to the Exalted Plains and visited the little shrine to Fen'Harel just to see if anything would happen. Nothing did of course.

I agree! And after re-watching Flemeth's conversation with Hawke in DA2, I'm now terrified that I made the wrong choice by not making Hawke stay in the Fade. "It is only when you fall that you learn whether you can fly." Hm....

Couple of other interesting things:

Hawke: Why did you ask me to bring you here?

Flemeth: Because I had an appointment to keep. And because I did not want to be followed. You smuggled me here quite nicely.

It's been awhile since I played DA2, do we ever find out what Flemeth's appointment was?

And later she says: "I am but a fragment, cast adrift from the whole."

I assumed the piece of Mythal inside Flemeth was the only spark remaining of god's essence. Is it possible the rest of Mythal is somewhere else? Or is she referring to something different?

I always assumed that, since this is technically only a year after she meets the Wardens in DA:O, that her "appointment" was her confrontation with the Warden when Morrigan asks them to kill Flemeth for her grimiore. Grimoire. How the hell do you spell that?

Anyway: HI EVERYBODY! (Cue missing Doctor Nick gif).

How have you all been? I've actually been playing the game so I have too many pages to ever be able to read (300 since I was last here? I haven't even been gone a week! :o )

Vaguely-thread-topic-connected question: Do you think the comp BioWare is running at the moment (forget the name) is a one-off thing or if they will do another one. I'm trying to decide between writing my Wolf Hunt fic, or doing my Elvhenan Pantheon series of paintings instead. (Also, am I really the only one bothered by how limited the pantheon is?)

Okay. Bearing in mind that I haven't read The Masked Empire (yet), and only know what I know from wikis...

Imshael reacts with fear to Felassan, doesn't he? And they seem familiar with each other. Doesn't make sense for some random hobo Dalish, but it would certainly make sense for an old priest of the Creators who were probably more than capable of throwing down with demons, Harry Dresden style. Or a newer born elf that grew up among Sentinels and has gone on scouting expeditions to see how the world is doing. I almost want to take this as evidence that the Veil was up for sometime in Ancient Arlathan, but that's definitely premature on my part.

(Note: Felassan/Dresden cross-over fan-fic needs to happen.)

Imshael is convinced to leave Mihris by Felassan, who tells him 'something bigger is coming to Thedas'. Imshael's essence then heads through an Eluvian. Is that supposed to have been Corypheus? I doubt it. A demon probably wouldn't be impressed with the evolution of the South's religion and society in general that Inquisition covers.

Something like Falon'din, or the Veil being messed with, though. That's bigger.

Cole also has a comment relating to dwarves. The 'You sell it," dialogue, specifically. He doesn't name the Titans, but it's fair to say it's probably what's calling out to the dwarves but can't be heard.

My take on this was as a reference to the Stone.  It's still "calling out to the blood that walks"- (dwarves as red/white blood cells) -they just can't hear it anymore.  Or at least, they can't tap in the way they used to.  The dwarves literally sell their connection to it by mining lyrium: what modern dwarves call "Stone sense" is the faintest echo of what it would be (what their electromagnetic charge would be) if they were passing through tunnels lined with veins of raw lyrium, as would once have been the case.  They've lost most of their charge- their connection- and thus their original purpose.

Whether you're on board with that interpretation or not, figuring out how that happened seems like a pretty critical question.  Like you mentioned before, the change doesn't feel gradual.  It's like overnight the dwarves lose their entire known history and Pantheon, the "First Thaig" is formed, and their society is suddenly fundamentally changed, with aims that don't seem to entirely line up with what they were crafted to be.

My personal hunch is that it's directly related to June's role in the red lyrium Cold War and the crafting of Elgar'nan's idol in the primeval thaig, but I need a much more solid grasp on the timeline before I can start spinning theory.

You know, that conversation between hawke and flemeth just makes it even more painfully clear that Hawke was supposed to be the Inquisitor.

Also, watching her again in DA 2, knowing what she is, it just makes her feel even more badass. Before, I thought her outfit was sooo overdone, but now? LOL I'd expect nothing less. It's awesome.

If I was still dancing competitively I'd make a latin costume out of that armour. It is bloody awesome.

I also would have made one based on Thane, which would have looked even better considering the "scales" that would have made up the neck-piece that would have trailed down the spine like dragon spines.

Damn now I wish I was still dancing competitively again just so I could make these dresses. :/

Okay, I need to know: Do I have to read the books? I haven't done that yet (mostly because of my prejudice against books written by game writers. All the ones I have read have been... substandard. As in a lot of fanfiction is written better. My theory for that was because they spent so long writing for games they forgot how to write for novels and weren't given enough time to refamiliarise themselves with the tenets of fiction-writing and editing).

Am I missing out on a lot of lore if I don't read them? Are they good?

And who are these "Titans" I keep seeing pop up? I've only played the games so I have no idea who they are.

Can you make anything of "Din elvhen emma him?" as well.

From this banter:

Spoiler

He says it like he's swearing and while we have the translation of all the individual parts I cannot make sense of it as a whole. I suppose it could be an elven expression but it doesn't seem likely.

(Sorry for the late reply! And sorry to interrupt the current conversation. Time got away from me hours ago and I had to leave suddenly for class, and I just got back now.) To answer your question very late:

Din = "not" or "isn't," to indicate someone who has died; someone who is not

elvhen = "Our people," indicating the elvhen race.

emma = I am

Him = becomes.

"Deceased elves, I [have] become."

Hm... you're right, we can't judge individual words. Since I used to make my living interpreting, I've learned to translate sentences that make sense in one language but do not have a direct translation in another, and so have learned to look at the overall meaning of the phrase in one and use different words in another that still has the overall meaning.

You're right, he does say it almost as a curse. More specifically, out of intense frustration. From what we know of Solas, he is obviously an ancient Elvhen super-powered being from the days of Arlathan; he reveres the past he's from and feels deeply saddened/frustrated that it is gone now. His agenda seems to be reviving that ancient time; his umbrage with the Dalish and city elves comes from them knowing next to nothing about their heritage and holding onto a few scant traditions they don't even remember; his frustration with Sera being that she both doesn't know anything about ancient elven life and doesn't care.

An early conversation you can have with Solas, asking about how Arlathan elves once lived, he mentioned how their immortality and magic was a product of just "being elven," not the other way around. He shows reverence for how the ancient elves lived, how they used to be ("It is said that we lived at a pace that sustained ourselves for ages," he speaks fondly of spells that took decades to cast, etc.) He seems to feel there are inherent elven feelings and traits that all elves will feel if you just tap into it. He keeps badgering Sera about elven life, language, traditions, and values, hoping to strike some sort of chord in her. Hoping that if he taps into her inherent elfiness (interest in her own kind, interest in magic and the Fade, affinity with archery, etc), maybe it'll somehow prove that modern elves are worth saving. yet, she keeps shutting him down.

Taking all of this into context, he's obviously admiring an elven ruin and all that it represents about people from his home time. Since Sera (an elf from the current time) has once shown disdain for elves of his time, he seems to feel it's yet another confirmation that modern elves are hopeless. That if he can't convince this elf to feel reverence for her people, the modern city elves in general are beyond reach.

Taken in his context, I feel like "Din elvhen emma him" is him exclaiming in frustration something like, "My people really are dead!" or "A dead people, we have become!" If there really is a question mark in there (It doesn't sound like a question to me, but for the sake of covering all bases I'll entertain the possibility), it could also mean, "Have my people really become so dead?!"

My best guess. I hope that helped.

does anyone know WHEN Hawke and co find Cornflakes?  in the official DA timeline? I think it's sometime in the third act... but I'm not sure

and My sister has told me of an interesting theory that hinges on this question.

She thinks that at some point Fen'Harel manged to pocess either Larius or Janika [ depending on choices] and somehow manged to find Bianca and help her with the red lyrim. and give Cornflakes the Foci.. but due to the taint, and his weakend state [ haveing just awoken] had to leave the body and ether form the identity or pocess the body of Solas...

while I like this theroy, It all depends on the WHEN legacy acctully happend...so .. hence my question

I prefer to play Legacy in the Second Act, after Fenris walks out on Hawke after they sleep together.  The reason, is because they have some banter there where Hawke mentions they haven't spoken since then, and Fenris is clearly glad that Hawke still wants to have anything to do with him.  So I can't imagine it's been very long.

I asked this question on Tumblr, and I'll ask it one here too. I see people complaining about the PJs the Inquisitor wears at Skyhold. Am I the only one who doesn't mind them? I mean, when I'm hanging out at home, I basically live in a onesie. Who wouldn't wanna hop in some PJs after wearing armor and weapons all day? :P

I like them on humans and elves, though especially elves. (My Lavellan has pale green eyes, so she's rocking the light green jammies.)

I only think they look out-of-place on dwarves and Qunari because... well, they're more stout and hardy races.

EDIT: LOL to your gif! XD

Actually, that's precisely my problem. They don't look comfy to me. (And I'm really finicky about physical comfort.)

These jammies look like they were designed for streamlined bodies in mind. Since dwarves and Qunari have more bulk and curves, it looks like the buttons are stretched so tight they're close to popping, and the curves of their body look like they're straining against the fabric in a bad way. I look at them and feel uncomfortable on their hehalf.

It could just be me though.

By the way, I still love your gif.  :D

Oh, yes, I really hate that too. Adding to the lore is one thing, but adding key concepts and details? No, that is just wrong.

Still wondering who the Titans are. Are they anything like the Greek Titans? If so, how do they fit into the DA 'verse?

I do quite like them, but I also love the various texture meshes. I love the top especially. I would love to make a jacket out of it.

But the thing is: they don't look like pajamas to me. They look like... business wear. Like the Thedas equivalent of the pencil skirt, blouse, jacket, and heels. Sometimes, especially with my human Quiz, I just wanted to be able to put on a dress.

Not one of the Ferelden dresses, mind. Those look bloody awful.

PS LOVE your gif.

I FINALLY KISSED SOLAS!

I realized why I had never done it. I never looked through the icons for the options so I never saw the heart option. Now I get to romance my bald baby.

Though I did get the end of the romance spoiled because some people don't use spoiler tags here. -.-

It would be neat if you did have the option to change, kind of like how you can change in Mass Effect, though I don't mind the pjs/businesssuit/whatever.

One thing that would have been neat is if, like in ME, you could have had a picture...or um, a painting of your romance choice beside your bed. 8D

Yay! Thanks! ^_^

Welp, Im off to bed! Goodnight, wolf pack!<3
