This so much.
I do have faith that Solas wont be flat out evil, though. Weekes said that the romance was to show what a tragic character he is. If they meant to just have him in DA4 as a villian with no chance of redemption then they wouldn't have included him as an LI. If Anders gets a chance to be happy then so should Solas.
Yeah I'm ok as long as Weekes continues to be in charge of writing him. He doesn't strike me as the super cynical type who would write a one dimensional villain like that.

Aw, that's too bad. I've always liked Gaider and appreciate his insights into the lore and process. He's been very generous with responding to fans on that. I recall the long, fascinating explanations in the Defense of Loghain thread and the Aimo comic about Morrigan that was exactly how I thought the scene should have played for "sisters perhaps," or that time a troll was calling Zevran a rapist on the fan thread and he came in to say "uh, no." It's too bad that he gets to much shite for being in that public role.Boo, I'll miss him. Snark aside (and sometimes the Gaider snark is truly glorious) I really like reading about the development process and hearing his perspective on the story. It's helped me enjoy video games even more now that I understand even a little bit of what goes into creating them. Can't blame him, though.
I hope we get some new stuff from PAX this weekend.
There's only so much you can talk about the same character without new information. This thread is far more on topic than some of the other character threads which are mostly chat hangouts. It is a mystery, especially because as of a few days ago we actually were almost always on topic.
I wonder why that dynamic changed.

Off topic, but sadly, Gaider's shutting down his Tumblr blog: http://dgaider.tumbl...log-coming-down
It's worth a visit before he does.
I hope someone archives his posts. They're a really good read.
Also, slightly unrelated, Hurricaneginger was your comment on his farewell post an intentional Fenris reference? Because when I read "I enjoyed following you" all I could hear was Fenris. ![]()

Well, I suppose this is finally at the state where it isn't complete blackmail. Here's the linework for the Solas/Lavellan picture I am working on.
Spoiler
Still have a fair bit left to do though, and probably one or two things to tweak a bit.
This looks really good! I love the way you draw Solas and all of the details/extra stuff you put in.
You're very talented!

The dalish would be more likeable if they were nomadic scotsmen, who are all ginger, wear tartan armour and play bagpipes.

Wow, the detail in this! So much background, and the little napping nug, and how freaking happy and content they both look...
Thanks. I needed that. Back on the Team Optimism dreadnaught now! *waves tiny flag*
Thank you! Glad that people like it. I was originally going to go with a different idea, but I figured we could use more happier art. Just have to color and tweak a few things before it is done.

I think that's basically what happens with the boons from DA:O. Aren't the Dalish supposed to have part of the Brecilian Forest? Yet for some reason Merrill's clan fled Ferelden to go to the Free Marches? I don't find those particularly satisfying, because I feel like that by not expanding, the games end up acting like those choices never happened. At least if they're big decisions.
I don't think my canon Lavellan could kill Solas, or that she would really have any reason to. She pretty much cares about "her people" - the elves and the Inquisition - and no one else. If Solas is helping the elves then she'll have no qualms with him. He'd have to be doing some objectively bad stuff and even then she'd have a hard time justifying his execution.
I'm only half paying attention to the conversation so maybe I'm missing what you're saying but... If you play through the Dalish Origin of DA:O the Keeper pretty much says they plan on packing up and moving north after you've left with Duncan. The Eluvian that Tamlen pokes pretty much draws the Darkspawn too close to the camp. Not to mention with the Blight the Darkspawn are pretty much running willy nilly through the Brecilian Forest on the way up to Denerim aren't they?

Yeah, alright, it's my fault. But, really, that trustworthy looking guy from Tevinter said it's not blood magic if it does not involve killing an Elven slave virgin. It is a mystery, especially because as of a few days ago we actually were almost always on topic.

Seriously though, does it bother you? If so, speak up and we might consider opening some sort of conversation thread.

I was responding to the exact words you used. And I'm not saying that you hate women, or are in fact sexist, but am pointing out that calling women bitches when you are angry at them, like you said you do, is a sexist behaviour. If you really hold the idea of not being sexist close to your heart, maybe you should refrain from doing that.
Word.

Sure! I use a wacom tablet, and a copy of photoshop CS5. But as far as linework goes, really any art program will do. Size is something like a 6 round brush on a 4000pixel canvas.

Solas is already rocking the hideous punishment plaid in my game. Does that count? ![]()
Though in all seriousness, I can see why it's hard to like the Dalish. I find their lore and culture fascinating, and I like them as a story element, but I can probably count on one hand the number of Dalish elves whom I haven't wanted to punch. I purposely made my Lavellan less Dalish-y so I could stomach playing her, which worked out well considering how human-centric the dialogue options can be.

While I did honestly think this was a bit of an overreaction, no offense, I do see where you're coming from.
I am christian, so the andrastian thing speaks to me probably more than some, and the parallels are there, but I still have a gripe with the forced white knight image, not because of religion, but because it limits your character and the possibilities of what they can be, which is kind of boring. It makes all humans a heroic figure whether you want to be or not, and makes dalish elves... I dunno, traitors? Lol I have no idea what the dalish would say about you going to be the herald of human faith. I guess you can tell them you were just using the silly shems to help the world, but when it comes to religion, people know, saying you're a member of this or that religion when you're not or denying your gods even temporarily is a very big deal.
Loranil, the Dalish elf you can recruit as an agent, he'll tell a Lavellan that all the clans have been talking about them, and they think humans holding a Dalish in such high regard could possibly be a sign of positive change in relations between humans and the Dalish. There's probably a fair number of Dalish who are skeptical or distrustful of the Inquisitor, but it sounds like there's also good amount of hope attached to her, even among the Dalish, if for their own reasons. The Dalish elves in the MP also seem to suggest there are Dalish throwing themselves in with the Inquisition for reasons other than faith (saving the world), though I imagine a Dalish Inquisitor gives them more reason to rally.

This is really unfortunate.
But I don't blame him, Tumblr can be really rough. I don't use it much these days, but I generally avoid tags and keep to low-drama tumblrs and pretty picture rebloggers for the most part because of it. It's a shame, I love that the devs have been willing to communicate with us as much as they have.

That's rather surprising to me honestly. Good to see they aren't like their ancestors after all (darkspawn issue).
That's really surprising. I'm glad to hear it since the game's thrown quite a bit of negativity their way.

Thanks! Which wacom do you use? I had one back in 2008/9ish and could probably ask my mum to hunt it down and post it, but it's probably past it's best by now. Do you draw on paper and then scan it, or do you do everything on photoshop? Haha, sorry if I'm being too nosey! If DG gets his hands on Solas then he is going to be killed off faster than you smiting a nug with lightning. I love DG's characters but Bioware and him seem to be out for blood after the DLC for DA2 were dropped.

HE'S A PRETTY GREAT CHARACTER.
I THINK THAT EVERYONE HERE CAN AGREE ON THAT. RIGHT?
Well actually I don't think I can agree. Let me explain. Long rant on Solas, may hurt feelings:
