I actually like elves being very thin and long-limbed, with angular features. Makes them, you know... like elves, not humans.

That said, I didn't like the DA2 design at all; I thought they were too freakishly exaggerated caricatures of waifish elves. I thought they looked freakish, buggish, and too alien. I feel DAI has found a nice middle ground between "lithe, pointy-eared people" in DAO (which I actually liked from the beginning, btw) and the obscenely exaggerated goat people of DA2.

That said, have you ever noticed that since DA2, the standard body shapes and features BioWare bestows on elves don't apply to elven companions? Fans of DA2 designs often pointed to Fenris and Merrill looking good, but that's because they looked the most human. Fenris actually had muscle, and Merrill had more streamlined features. For DAI, elves have tiny torsos and matchstick limbs (which I actually like), while Solas and Sera are much taller and have much more meat and muscle on their bones. I guess it makes sense story-wise, since Solas is one of the ancient elves from before millennia of slavery and diaspora (notice he looks more like Abelas and the ancient elves than any modern elves), and Sera is basically a human who just happened to have been born with pointy ears. She rejects everything elven with her mind and soul, and so from a design perspective her human-like body reflects it.

Still, it's funny how BioWare does that. They act so proud of their stylized elf designs, yet they don't use it on their elven companions. (The elven characters that most PCs will see and interact with through most of the game, btw.)

Speaking of pictures...

I tried to do a sketch of my Lav yesterday, and thought that I'd share... Just a simple pencil drawing, and nowhere as good as most of the other stuff people post here, but...

It's a mental exercise. Need to... press... "Post"... button...

Spoiler

A lot of the times, I find sketches more interesting to look at. In highschool, I used to hate when my teachers told me to paint next or add color. So I made copies.

This is really good :) An example of another skinny elf model that isn't grossly so. Birthing hips, thick thighs ;)

Solas can romance any female elf, right? Not just mages?

Any.  I always play archers and there is no difference.  There is one different flirt option that references your "side benefits" which is dependent on your class.

The fungus i mentioned adapted to control a host that doesnt have a true brain ie limited function. Now if that fungus mutated to take control of an animal with more basic functions, it could become more intelligent if you will.

I use it only as parallel.

Anyway, the fungus analogy made me think of origins of the blight: all we know that the magisters "corrupted" the Golden City when they physically entered the Fade. In DA:I everyone is freaking out Quizzie entered the Fade physically 2 times, some wonder about the short term and long term effects this might have.

So: I tend to think that the blight originated somehow from a contact of mortal bodies with the weird-whatever-it-is Fade matter. I hope you understand me: something like people travelling on the other side of the globe and not taking vaccinations for the local illnesses, catching a local disease that no one from the locals even care about, as they are already naturally immune to it, since it's part of their ecosystem, but the "stranger" may even die while getting it.

Hence, another conclusion: blight is actually a mutation of something natural and non tainted in the Fade with a mortal body (or some of it's action or part. Maybe this bloody blood which jumps out of everywhere again?), unnatural in this environment, being carried. Maybe again... the mortal blood + something in the Fade = mutation => blight

Just a speculation.

Thanks! I am very reluctant to share my drawings, because I'm a "raging perfectionist" and I never feel like they are good enough, but it's nice to know that someone liked it  ^_^

The reference of "zombie ants" has been used to illustrate the comparison already, I'm also thinking of examples like this one (look at point 7 about snails parasite and later on more on "zombie ants": http://io9.com/12-re...hosts-461313366

Bleh. Maybe a "This is cool but super gross" warning next time?

Seriously, I was eating. :(

Edit: Zombie ants were the inspiration for the cordyceps fungus in the Last of Us right?

<snip>

I don't mind it all that much.  I actually just don't like the arms.  They look a bit...off.  It's only really noticeable when my rogue is in her Dalish gear.  I thought she looked fine for the most part.  I'm fine that they have different body types - it makes sense.  I like that their facial structure is a bit different  tooo - higher brow/nose.  I am in agreement with you regarding the DA2 elves.  They were TERRIFYING minus Fenris/Merrill.  When I first saw them I was like "GUHHH WHAT HAPPENED TO YOU ALL?".  Even in this game, some of the elvish NPCs look a little...odd.

I can understand that. But, I guarantee the majority of people couldn't do it better ;) I bet we'd all appreciate seeing as much elven related art as possible.

I myself can't get enough of them good looking elven ladies. :D

Was amazing though. Extremely fascinating. And terrifying. It's like the flood in Halo. It's not even far fetched to think this could spread to mammals somewhere in the future.

Thanks. I just tend to be very critical towards my drawings. Which is not a bad thing, I suppose, since otherwise I'd never improve  ^_^

Haha, it's ok. It was a super interesting article but some people (like me cause I'm a big baby) get super creeped out, especially since it's real

PS: I was one of those people who just could NOT play the Last of Us without nightmares. Those clickers >_<

I've been always reluctant to share my paintings as well, mainly because some people insisted that they're awful and discouraged me from sharing them. :P
At this point,I just paint for the sake of painting and rarely publish anything anymore. :D

Solas is one, as is Sera. They look healthy. Fiona too. They were fine more or less before as well. And the concept art made them look healthy too.

It's just now that the devs decided to go all out with the anorexia. Elves are elegant yes, but not pathetic.

Yes. When my Levellan lifted that Inquisitor's sword over her head, I surmised she must have been using some of her power as a mage to lift it. I'm pretty sure it weighs more than she does.

People can be really mean, can't they.

And sometimes it's not even a "Oh your picture sucks", but it's way more passive aggressive than that. Anyway, I'm sorry if anyone discouraged you from sharing- or anyone, for that matter.

Such hateful people in the world these days.
