I was wondering..the spirit of wisdom and the nightmare demon are shown to speak in ancient elvish. Do all spirits and demons speak the elven language?
Cole never speaks elvish even rudimentary elvish.
Heh it would be so funny if Cole suddenly declared Solas is actually Fen'harel.

I doubt it. Justice didn't even know what race the Dalish were - they were completely unfamiliar to him. I suspect the older spirits would know, but not the younger ones.

Not sure about the Forgotten Ones, but it's widely theorized (or do we have concrete evidence? I'm not sure, but would love to see it if so) that they are extremely powerful demons - and that we've met one in each game, though under different names - Imshael being one of them. We really don't know much about them. though, other than the fact that they were considered evil, and that only Fen'Harel could walk among them. As far as I know, Andruil was the only other member of the pantheon to enter the Void they inhabited, and it drove her mad.

Regarding the worship of Fen'Harel - it's interesting, because although he's this feared being, they still have statues of him and leave offerings - but, the statue is always kept outside of the camp, looking away, and the offerings are meant to appease rather than honor him. If I remember correctly, he's a protector, of sorts. Sort of a like a gargoyle - a monstrous being whose purpose is to scare off evil spirits. Still, you don't want the Dread Wolf to catch your scent, or turn his eyes upon you. You won't see elves honoring him with vallaslin, and the tales usually warn people not to ask for his help, since it always seems to come at great cost, or he'll find some way to betray you even as he keeps his promise.

Err....I think you might mean the Forbidden ones there. Imshael, Gaxxkang and Hybris right? Forgotten ones, forbidden ones, I'm not entirely sure they're the same thing.

But I agree, if we're going game crossover, Garrus is definitely competition.

Now I want the two of them to meet and discuss their respective loved ones.

Solas: ...and then I had to end it with her.

Garrus:  No offense, but you're a dumb***.

Solas: I'm sorry?

Garrus:  Never mind whatever you're up to.  You're dating a heroine.  My girlfriend has punched fully armored men off of high-rises and headbutted krogan.  I'd hate to see what she'd do if I really pissed her off.

Solas: Ah.  I see.  Well, the Inquisitor does have a Fade rift key in her hand...and she's killed a fair share of dragons.

Garrus:  I don't even know what that means, but you're in a world of trouble.

Solas: I--

Garrus: Go.  Apologize.  Now.  Your internal organs will thank me later.

Okay. So far I've seen Solas dump the Inquisitor twice, and have cried twice. Need to watch it again. Gotta desensitize myself. :pinched:

One cannot simply desensitize. I watched the scene more than 6 times. I still feel sad and upset watching it and now hate doing the main quest T.T

Um....I feel like that would be the absolute worst thing to say to a Dalish elf. Considering their ancestors fought to the death rather than convert to andraste, I think it would be a really really insensitive thing to say. I mean, who's gods were banned and reviled? Not the maker. There's plaques all over the dales (landmarks) gloatingly celebrating "bringing the light of the maker to the wicked heathens" during the 2nd exalted march.

So...yeah. I lost a lot of respect for Cassandra when she asked why my elf couldn't just add the maker to the pantheon. (Don't worry, she made up for it by being awesome in other ways).

I think it's a fair question honestly. It's the same question I ask fellow christians in relation to things like evolution. Why limit yourself. Why not have an open mind.

The answer whether they realize it or not, is that they're not sure they can accept something like that without shaking their faith. It's fair of course. If you believe everything you're told is true and wish to cling to that, then you are 100 percent within your rights and I don't judge you. But the question is still fair.

I understand why the Dalish do it, but it's a simple question. It's not like she's saying your gods are made up. She asked a question politely. So answer politely. Explain to her what it means to be Dalish. Communication leads to understanding for both parties.

If that is even an option that is. But even so, her question was still a fair one.

Oh God. That is comedy gold right there.

Garrus: Don't forget to complement her fringe or tell her how supportive her waist is!

Solas: Wat?

You're talking this **** way too seriously tbh. If I got mad every time somebody said something bad about my RL religion I would've died ten times over by brain aneurysms.

Oh and Solas pities the Dalish. That's pretty sad from an in-universe perspective.

Lol that made me realize that Solas is way smoother than Garrus (still love you Garrus!). Is he the smoothest guy in all Bioware games?

Sadly, we never get the option to respond. That would have been a really interesting conversation, and a great bit of character immersion. I don't think Cassandra asked to be rude, but it still reads as a tad culturally insensitive given the history of thedas and Cassandra's role as right hand.

I think my character would have responded politely, maybe tried to educate Cassandra on dalish beliefs. For myself, I personally think the question was a bit boneheaded, if well meaning.

Elgar'nan. Flemeth was betrayed by Connobar who killed Osen. I think that story fits Mythal, Fen'Harel, and Elgar'nan somehow.

I've got a question, just out of curiosity.

A lot of people weren't interested in Solas prior to the release 'cause "eww, bald!"

For those who felt this way and romanced Solas, anyway, do you find yourself now open to the idea that, "you know what? Bald men can be hot, too!" or is Solas the exception?

There have been a few bald men (celebrities) that I considered attractive prior to Solas: Bruce Willis, Jason Statham, Vin Diesel... But these guys have all been the super macho action hero type. :P For bald non-celebs/regular people I meet IRL though, I don't recall if I thought any of them were hot.

For Solas, it was definitely a combination of his voice, personality, and intelligence that got me attracted to him. When I first saw him, I never found him "ugly". Just a bit unusual. But after getting to know him, his unusualness kind of adds to his attractiveness, as strange as it sounds. ;)

It is a bit, yea. If a pagan asked me is there not any room for their gods with mine, I'd probably consider them ignorant. Which is fine, being ignorant is a temporary condition unless one chooses otherwise. They asked a question seeking a middle ground. Unfortunately a lot of the times, there is no middle ground in religions.

Sorry, did I sound a bit hostile? If I did, I apologize. That was never my intention.

That little spiel was directed at thedas at large, not you. I know the dalish are generally not well thought of (and who can blame them, the ones we have met are jerks except for a handful of individuals) but I've always really sympathized with them.

Why be understanding and bridge building when you can get away with being mean? Imagine for months every time Cassandra makes eye contact with the Inquisitor it's met with a disdainful glare. She doesn't understand why and the Inquisitor won't tell her. And Cassandra would never call the Inquisitor on it because she's had enough occasions in her life where people have said "Cassandra, you glare at people, a lot".

Enantiomorph son. Enantiomorphs everywhere!!

Connobar was jealous lord dude. Osen was her 'real' husband. And of course we've got Flemeth.

Now apply that to Elgar'nan, Fen'Harel, and Mythal.

I figured. But what I'm saying is that Mythal found and chose Flemeth because their personal tragedies played out exactly the same similarly.

Which is why I said it was a theory. I've seen it speculated that they are the same thing, but with different names... As its been theorized that the Old Gods are the Elven Pantheon.

Well, considering how more often than not, outsiders are a threat to the clan (to the point where Clan Lavellan travels in the Free Marches because the territorial boundaries between the city-states will caution human lords against trying to attack the Dalish, out of fear of accidentally provoking one of their neighbors), wariness and mistrust from some of the Dalish are expected. The Warden and the Champion are exceptions to the rule, after all.
